Recap / Phineas And Ferb Crack That Whip

Go To

Betty Jo Flynn, Phineas', Ferb's and Candace's grandmother, and Hildegard Johnson, Jeremy's and Suzy's grandmother, have a roller derby rematch, dragging their grandkids into it.

Meanwhile, Dr. Doofenshmirtz tries to destroy a statue of Rutherford B. Hayes, but is hindered by a terrible "headache".

Tropes

  • Curse Cut Short: Grandma Betty Jo tells Hildegarde, "And don't even think about any rough stuff this time, sister, or I'll kick your fat—", but is interrupted when she sees Candace, Jeremy, Suzy, and Ferb flying towards them.
  • Does This Make Me Look Fat?: Candace asks Stacy if her helmet makes her butt look big.
  • Double Entendre: After Candace gets accidentally launched into Jeremy, who manages to catch her:
    Ferb: Good catch, Jeremy.
    Candace: [giggles] He sure is.
  • Eat the Evidence: The roller rink is turned into a giant loaf of bread by the Bread-inator, which is then eaten by the swarm of magpies.
  • Enmity with an Object: Doofenshmirtz's latest scheme is to get rid of a statue of U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes, whose beard he envies due to his own inability to grow a beard as a teen.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: When Candace sees that Grandpa Clyde has joined her brothers in their escapades, she asks him, "Et tu, Grandpa?" Clyde, who is eating a donut, thinks she was referring to the donut, and he says, "No, I just had one."
  • Evil Laughter: Doof's hangover is so severe, it even hurts when he tries to laugh.
  • Failures on Ice: Candace keeps flailing willy-nilly on her roller skates.
  • Feuding Families: The Flynn-Fletcher family and the Johnson family become at odds with each other thanks to Grandma Betty-Jo and Grandma Hildegard bickering over the results of a roller derby they competed in years ago, although only the grandmothers (and to a lesser extent, Suzy) are really in on the whole rivalry.
  • Flashback Effects: Doof begins to tell a backstory about how he cannot grow facial hair, and the screen dissolves, but due to his Hangover Sensitivity, his head hurts too much for a flashback.
  • Hangover Sensitivity: An obviously-impaired Doofenshmirtz barely has the focus to explain his evil plan of the day and finally begs off after a token effort, promising to be more evil tomorrow.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Suzy switched Candace's rollerskates with ones that have rockets glued to the sides, and she uses it to propel Candace away from the finish line. It works, but then Suzy ends up in Candace's path and gets carried off as well.
  • Human Mail: Well, Platypus Mail, technically. Perry mails himself to O.W.C.A. headquarters. It works, but Monogram points out that he could have just taken the elevator.
  • Ignored Aesop: Betty Jo and Hildegarde almost realize that it doesn't matter who won but that they had fun, but then they resume arguing over who won.
  • In the Style of: The song "Ring of Fun" pays tribute to the harmonies and music stylings of The Beach Boys.
  • Mirrors Reflect Everything: When Doofenshmirtz fires the Bread-inator, it hits a giant mirror, bouncing the ray away from the statue and towards the roller rink at Phineas and Ferb's house.
  • Pun: Grandpa Clyde takes on the role of color commentator, which, to him, means naming colors he likes, "Yellow, green, blue!" "Orange, purple, chartreuse!"
  • The Rival: Betty and Hildegard, to each other.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Tired of struggling with his splitting headache, Doofenshmirtz phones in his attempt to pull off his evil scheme and then leaves to take a nap.
  • Shout-Out: The title is a reference to a lyric in the song "Whip It!" by DEVO.
  • Special Guest: Vicki Lawrence ("Mama" from The Carol Burnett Show) plays Hildegard Johnson.
  • What Does This Button Do?: Phineas sees Suzy's remote on the ground and says, "Hey, what's this thing do?" and activates Candace's rocket skates, which pushes her backwards into Jeremy's arms, much to her delight.
