Short Summary

Follows an underwater voyage of Jimbei.

Main Summary

After delivering Caribou to the G-5 Marines, Jimbei decides to journey to his comrades. Whilst traveling underwater via his coated boat, he comes across a lost Sea Kitten, the same kind as the one the Straw Hats encountered in Alabasta. He brings the lost child to a Sea Dog Police Officer for help. Together, the two of them go to where the Sea Kitten's village should be…only to find an empty lot.

Jimbei saves a capsizing ship, and receives a newspaper from one of the passengers. There he learns about the Straw Hat-Heart Pirates' alliance, but the article he should have read is about how numerous sea beasts attacking ships. Following the trail to an island in the center of the trouble, he finds that it's a place where buildings have been raining down. The islanders explain that everything started when someone stole the offerings to the sea god.

Jimbei takes a look around, and finds none other than Wadatsumi, the umibozu henchman of Vander Decken! Apparently, Wadatsumi took the offerings, and to make up for it, began tossing the houses from the undersea village onto the island, in turn causing the sea beasts who lived there to riot. Jimbei, with his power to talk to sea creatures, is able to explain what happened and smooth things over. The houses are returned and the sea beasts allow themselves to transport the islanders to make up for capsizing their ships. Later on, Jimbei learns that there is a Poneglyph on the island.

The Solitary Journey of Jimbei, First Son of the Sea has the following tropes:

  • Foreshadowing: While listening the villagers' plight, one of the playing children hanging on Jimbei's cloak has a number 10 on the back of their shirt. Flash forward to Wano, and Jimbei finally would join the Strawhats as their 10th member.
  • Shout-Out: Jimbei finding the lost Sea Kitten and asking a Sea Dog Police Officer for help is a reference to a popular Japanese children's song Inu no Omawari-san, the same song used in Frogger.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Wadatsumi started the whole problem by trying to make up for taking the offerings.
  • Wham Shot: After everything is said and done, Jimbei hears that the townspeople have found something in the ruins. It's a poneglyph.
