Short Summary
Main Summary
Waking up from where Usopp blasted him, Jango goes to where the Black Cat Pirates were and find they have sailed off, leaving him behind. While getting a meal at a restaurant, Jango is discovered by Onion, and subsequently chased off the island by the ex-Usopp Pirates, who resume their protection of Kaya.Jango sails off to Mirror Ball Island, and enters a dance contest. Due to the Marine presence on the island, Jango ditches his regular look and goes in disguise. Jango wins the contest and befriends the second runner-up, Fullbody, whom he discovers is a Marine lieutenant. The island is attacked by the Tulip Pirates, and while Fullbody fights off the raiders, Jango takes off in his boat. The Tulip Pirates take a hostage to stop Fullbody, but Jango returns at the last minute to help his new friend. However, in doing so he reveals himself to be a pirate, and Fullbody has to arrest him.
At Jango's trial, just before the judge can pass sentence, Fullbody dances out an appeal for an acquittal, which gets the entire court hopping. Once the madness dies down, the judge agrees to the acquittal, on the condition that Fullbody be demoted. Preparing to leave, Jango decides to hypnotize Fullbody into forgetting about him, so their friendship won't hurt his career again.
This plan goes straight out the window when the two see Hina, a drop-dead gorgeous Marine captain. Jango signs on with the Marines, and he and Fullbody begin to work under Hina.
Jango's Dance Paradise has the following tropes:
- Back-to-Back Badasses: Jango and Fullbody in chapter 27, surrounded by the Tulip Pirates.
- The Cameo: Jango unknowingly passes by Morgan during his trip. In the last chapter, Garp, Koby and Helmeppo are walking by in the background.
- Chased by Angry Natives: Sort of. Jango was chased out of town by Pepper, Carrot and Onion.
- Dance Party Ending: Jango's trial ends with everyone dancing and an acquittal.
- Distracted by the Sexy: Jango's attempt to erase Fullbody's memories when he got distracted by Hina's beauty.
- Early-Bird Cameo: Hina first appears at the end of the arc, before her introduction in Alabasta.
- Glasses Pull: In chapter 10, Jango begins to remove his glasses, and in chapter 11, we see his heart-shaped eyes.
- Heel–Face Turn: Jango who joins the Marines at the end of the arc. Of course, considering the morality of the Marines, this is really a Hazy-Feel Turn.
- Hidden Depths: For both Jango, who demonstrates that when "off the job" he's not that bad a guy, and Fullbody, who demonstrates that under his Upper-Class Twit exterior, he really does care about civilians and is capable of bonding with even a pirate over a shared interest.
- The Power of Friendship: Fullbody saves Jango at his sentencing, albeit at the cost of his position.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Jango wakes up just in time to see his former crew leave him behind.
