Recap / Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers S3E27 Another Brick in the Wall

Go To

Using her winning design, Katherine oversees her friends in the conversion of a vacant lot into low-cost housing for the homeless. Targeting her former flunky, Rita orders Rito and the Tengas to trash the team's hard work, and turn Kat into a monster again! But by mistake, the Brick Bully monster is created instead. With the monster getting more powerful as he consumes construction materials, and trapping most of the Rangers into bricks, can the new Pink Ranger come up with a way to save her new teammates while Billy goes solo against Brick Bully?

Tropes

  • Achievements in Ignorance: The Brick Bully is created by accident after Rita tries to cast a spell on Kat and misses, but it's pretty lethal.
  • And I Must Scream: The Brick Bully miniaturizes four of the six Rangers and seals them inside bricks; whether they were conscious or not is unclear, but if they were...
  • Cassandra Truth: When Bulk and Skull arrest the mayor, they don't believe her claims that she is the mayor...until Lt. Stone yells at them.
  • Foreshadowing: Billy defeating the Brick Bully on his own demonstrates how far he's developed since the series began, and shows the mature role he'll take in a future story arc.
  • It's All My Fault: For some reason, Katherine blames herself for Brick Bully trapping four of the Rangers in bricks. Zordon snaps her out of it.
  • Negative Continuity: Usually, when Rangers or civilians are transformed into inanimate objects (be it pachinko balls, a chemistry set, or footballs), no explanation is given. Here, we actually learn that the Rangers were shrunk and trapped inside real bricks.
  • No Ontological Inertia: Averted. Even after Billy destroys Brick Bully, Alpha and Katherine's erosion process is still needed to free the other Rangers.
  • Recognition Failure: Despite having seen Mayor Carrington back in Season One's "Doomsday", Bulk and Skull mistake her for a vagrant and don't notice her identity until Stone spells it out for them.
  • Shout-Out: When Bulk and Skull were wondering how they were going to explain to Lt. Stone that Rito and the Tengas attacked the construction site, Skull suggests they just tell him the truth. Bulk retorts "He can't handle the truth!".
  • You Fool!: Lt. Stone really chews Bulk and Skull out when they mistakenly arrest the mayor, thinking she was a vagrant.
