Recap / Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers S2E34 Where There's Smoke, There's Fire

Go To

It's "Fire Safety Week" at Angel Grove High. Aisha is appointed Fire Safety Captain. She takes the job a little too seriously, citing Ernie for minor fire code violations, and chastising her teammates for failing to spread the message of fire safety. When Lord Zedd creates the Flamehead monster, Aisha tries to take him on by herself, and fails. Will she learn a valuable lesson before the city burns to the ground?

Tropes

  • Hypocritical Humor: Bulk tells Skull he isn't afraid of fire, but when Flamehead set fire on a trashcan near them they ran to the lake. They got kicked out of the Wannabe Firefighers Club as a result.
Skull: They took away our pooch.
Bulk: Will you shut up about the dog?!
  • Jerkass Ball: Aisha.
  • She's a Man in Japan: Subverted. Flamehead's Dairanger counterpart was a male but despite having a female voice and mannerisms, Flamehead himself is also stated to be male.
  • Sissy Villain: Flamehead doesn't look it but he has a female voice and feminine mannerisms, despite explicitly stated by Zordon and Zedd as being male.
  • This Is Something He's Got to Do Himself: Subverted with Aisha, she wants to take on the Putties and the monster herself to prevent them from starting more fires. But Zordon tells her her position as Fire Safety Captain is separate from her duty as a Power Ranger, which the latter requires teamwork. She finds that out the hard way.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Subverted with when Zordon explains, if not scolds, Aisha that her duty being assigned as Fire Safety Captain and being a Power Ranger are entirely two different obligations. After Aisha tries to pull an I Work Alone fighting the Z-Putties and Flamehead because she is Fire Safety Captain, the moment she tries to pull that excuse to Zordon, he reminds her, in his Tranquil Fury scolding tone, that being a Power Ranger requires teamwork. Especially after being reminded by the other Rangers of the Aesop, "There is no 'I' in 'team'". Aisha has a Heel Realization and apologies for her inexperience.
