Recap / Mickey Mouse S3 E4 "Movie Time"

Go To

"Movie Time" is the fourth season 3 short of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It's the 41st to air on the Disney Channel and put up on Disney.com.

Mickey braves through bizarre dangers and a storm to claim snacks for movie night with him and Minnie.

Tropes:

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: When Mickey's walking against the wind (which is pushing him the other way), he stops and picks up a nickel (just in time to avoid a truck that was flying at him). Then goes flying right to the market.
  • Bittersweet Ending: So the entire town and Mickey and Minnie's house has been flooded, but Mickey is still able to get the projector going thanks to an errant lightning bolt which fries him.
  • The Determinator: Mickey is outright dead-set on getting snacks, going through every single thing the hurricane throws at him.
  • Gosh Dang It to Heck!: One phrase from the store manager: "Pull your head out of your shorts!"
  • Shout-Out:
    • The method of showing the movie is reminiscent of how Donald puts the first third of The Three Caballeros in motion, with a roll-down screen and old-fashioned projector.
    • There's also the floating tub from that movie's Pablo The Penguin sequence, except Mickey uses a bicycle to steer it before the hail sinks it. A palm tree from Pablo's final destination also shows up after the tub.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Mickey's reaction to the tidal wave coming behind him near the end of the short is a half-resigned, half-exasperated "Oh."
  • Toilet Humor: At one point, the storm causes a whole building to be torn down. One of the unfortunate victims is a rabbit sitting on a toilet.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Mickey blatantly ignores any and every signs that there's a storm, until he's told so by the store manager.
  • Watch Where You're Going!: Mickey and Minnie, panicking over the snacks and the incoming storm respectively, end up crashing face-first into each other.
