Recap / Lost Girl S 2 E 6 Its Better To Burn Out Than Fae Away

Go To

The episode opens with a graffiti artist tagging a wall when he's interrupted by a scorpion-tailed Fae who's not happy with his work. The artist blows scorp away with a shotgun, and the camera pulls away to reveal his work is a mural of Vex murdering the vampire who sold Bo information about the Dark Fae imprisoned for murdering her family.

Vex is somewhat... vexed that this is happening, as he has a reputation in the human world and this puts him in danger. He goes to the Morrigan and complains that her pet artist is putting him in danger and demands it be taken care of. The Morrigan puts him in his place, but agrees, then sends her beleaguered assistant to fetch Bo.

Bo, meanwhile, is getting into an argument with Kenzi about Lauren. Lauren is hiding from the Ash, who is cracking down on his human chattel. Kenzi is pointedly not worried about the emotional entanglements, focusing instead on the political problems: Lauren is a fugitive and harboring her will get them in big trouble with the Ash. Bo needs a plan.

The next day, during her meeting with the Morrigan we learn first that the Morrigan's assistant is capable of manipulating people's motivations. Second we learn that the Morrigan wants Bo to hunt to Jason, the artist who murdered the venerable Fae and put up a mural of Vex. Third, we learn that the Morrigan is in love with Jason and is reluctant to have him killed.

At the Dal, we learn that Morrigan is a Fae who feeds on inspiration, on artistic genius; an evil muse. At the graffiti site, Kenzi recognizes some work from her street days and they head over to talk to someone who knows the artist. Jason was a marvelous artist, then Jason started going a little nuts, going too far; he even tagged a cop car while the police were still inside.

Back at the Dal, Kenzi and Bo try to piece together Jason's behavior; the picture is one of an artist going nuts and painting Fae secrets on the city walls. A phone call from Kenzi's friend gives them a lead on Jason's whereabouts and his increasingly violent, erratic behavior. They run into Jason, who pulls a shotgun, only to be interrupted by the Vex. In the scuffle, Jason gets away, and the three go to a bar to discuss things. Turns out, Jason was tagging the wall with a picture of the Morrigan wielding a knife.

At the bar, Bo informs the Vex that the Morrigan hired her. Vex wanted to interrogate Jason, as he doesn't trust the Morrigan because he's a threat to the Morrigan's position, and thinks this might be a situation connived by the Morrigan. Vex offers Bo a deal to bring her the artist first. Kenzi goes to confront Lauren about the complex situation developing at home while Bo goes to talk to the Morrigan.

Kenzi gives Lauren the "if you hurt her" routine, pointing out that Lauren spy-banged her for the Ash. Lauren retorts that, while Kenzi has a point, Lauren suspects she also just wants to be the only human in Bo's life, which is selfish. Further conversation is interrupted by the Ash and some thugs. Fortunately, Lauren had the foresight to duck into the back. The Ash wants Lauren and threatens Kenzi's life; Lauren quickly steps out. Ash gives Lauren 24 hours to come home, out of minimal respect for Bo's territory, or the Ash will pull the plug on Lauren's special project...

Bo tells the Morrigan that she's out; she doesn't want to help put Jason into an early grave through politics, outing Vex's implications. The Morrigan accepts her resignation... but offers her the key to fixing Lauren's situation with the Ash, for good. Bo decides to take the Morrigan's offer.

At Bo's apartment, she and Lauren share a passionate night, just in case.

The next morning, a happy Bo and a hungover Kenzi go to the Dal for a meeting with Hale. After a quick hangover cure for Kenzi and a little discussion of Dyson, they get some cop advice for finding someone. Hale calls in The Eye, a Fae who snoops all sorts of illegally. He's a one-eyed stinky goof, and a little creepy. He finds Jason and asks for a kiss from Kenzi, who reluctantly agrees.

Jason is a little unhinged and doesn't want to go back to Evony (his agent... the Morrigan), not yet. He's clearly hearing something before he collapses in convulsions on the sidewalk. They bring Jason back to an uncaring Morrigan (who confesses she lied about being in love), who only cares about finding out how the Vex set all this up. She then gives Bo the key to saying... Nadia. Because the key to saving Lauren is saving Nadia. And Nadia is Lauren's... girlfriend.

A furious Bo storms home and tells Vex, waiting, that she's never working for Dark Fae again. Inside, she learns from Kenzi that Jason's two paintings, Morrigan on the one hand and Vex killing the vampire on the other, form one whole. They piece together that something bigger is going on, that neither the Morrigan nor Vex know what's going on. Someone is setting the two at one another's throats... someone who was controlling Jason from the inside.

It turns out that the Morrigan's assistant is using her powers of persuasion to frame the Morrigan for killing Vex. She puts the 'fluence on the Vex's domme, who chains him up for some kinky sex before pulling out the knife she was given. Bo busts in at the nick of time to save him. He's... mildly grateful.

At the Morrigan's office, everyone confronts the assistant, who tearfully kills herself.

At home, Bo wrestles with Lauren's apparent betrayal. Kenzi tells her to give Lauren a chance to explain. We see Lauren in a room talking to someone in some sort of iceblock/machine contraption...

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Bo gets the key to freeing Lauren and it is not what she wanted.
  • Bondage Is Bad: The Vex is into hardcore S&M. Quelle surprise.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": We finally learn that the Morrigan's name is Evony (we already knew it was just a title, like Ash or Blackthorne).
  • Fantastic Racism: While looking for Lauren, Ash calls Kenzi Bo's pet and implies he'd be willing to put her down.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Kenzi threatens to kill Lauren if she hurts Bo again. Not only is Lauren completely unimpressed by the threat, she challenges whether this is coming from the selfless desire to protect Bo or selfish desire to be the only human in Bo's life.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Bianca kills herself, thoroughly.
  • Pre-Climax Climax: Knowing that they might never see each other again, Lauren and Bo share a night together.
