Isaiah is put in a very unusual situation when an itinerant traveler dies and leaves him to care for a baby... orangutan.
Tropes associated with this episode:
- Coming of Age: Willie continues to demonstrate this as he helps Mr. Edwards mastermind a plan to fool his evil mother and bratty sister, who want Blanche dead.
- Finish Her!: When Mrs. Oleson learns that Blanche was actually still alive after the sheriff appeared to have shot her (for attacking Nancy), what she demands the sheriff return to do.
- House Fire: Averted when baby Rose – left alone in the house while in Jenny's care – knocks over a lantern. Blanche saves the day by alerting Jenny, and – as the orangutan escorts Rose out of the house – she is quickly able to put the fire out.
- Missing Mom: Played with. Before Blanche is revealed to be an animal, it's stated that her mother died three years ago, and that Blanche is the spitting image of her mother. The trope does not play out in the traditional sense in that it's actually a pet's mother, even though it's a pet treated like a daughter.
