Elopement: After falling for each other, Luke and Nellie find a justice of the peace to do so in Sleepy Eye, but Nels and a shotgun-toting Harriet track the couple to a nearby hotel and bring them back to the justice so they can be un-married, during which time Luke's father and Miss Beadle decide to tie the knot instead.
Knight Templar Parent: Played for laughs; the Olesons track Nellie and Luke to a nearby hotel where they were just about to have their wedding night, when Mrs. Oleson breaks in with a shotgun in hands and announces Nellie will become a widow. Thankfully, her aim isn't as good and the sequence is too humorous to end in tragedy.
Parent with New Paramour: Adam Simms, a widower, falls in love with Miss Beadle, as does she for him. His son Luke approves, and the two are married by the end of the episode (but not before they, along with Nels and Harriet, stop Luke and Nellie from eloping first!).
Shotgun Wedding: Inverted. Mrs. Oleson tracks Nellie and Luke with a shotgun with intents to undone their marriage, by whatever means necessary.
Teacher/Parent Romance: Miss Beadle falls in love with her new student Luke's widowed father, Adam, at the same time Luke falls in love with Nellie. They marry right after Luke and Nellie's marriage is undone.
