- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Axel Caspers genuinely loves his daughter, who he actually kidnapped after killing her parents. In the end, he's willing to throw away his entire cause to save her life, telling her, "You matter to me more."
- Happily Adopted: A particularly twisted variation since it began with a kidnapping, but Caspers did truly come to love Birgit/Marta as his own child.
- Man Bites Man: The terrorists' first target attempts to defend himself from a kidnapping with this method. It doesn't end well for him.
- Never Found the Body: Reading the file on a firebombing their suspect committed against a banker and his family, Nichols learns that while the entire family was presumed killed, police were never able to actually positively identify any remains of the man's toddler daughter. This leads to his "Eureka!" Moment.
- Reverse Whodunnit: Not only are the killers clearly shown in the teaser, but the bulk of the episode cuts back and forth between following the investigation and following what the killers are up to.
- Season Finale: For Season 8.
- She Knows Too Much: Birgit's reasoning for killing the woman that Caspers hooked up with. Caspers is not happy, believing that this was a mistake.
- You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: The villain strangles one of his henchmen after said henchman botched a kidnapping.
