Tropes in this episode:

  • As Herself: Isabel Allende
  • The Bus Came Back: Fabian returns in this episode, and in the telenovela, his character is returning as a ghost.
  • Call-Back: The Latin Lover Narrator warning us that either Luisa, Rafael, Alba, Petra, Magda or Anezka will die is brought into play in this episode.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Deconstructed. Jane is about to say 'I love you' to Adam throughout the episode, but hesitates every time she almost says it. It's later confirmed that she did fall in love with him, but she never gets to tell him as he breaks her heart.
  • Character Death: Anezka dies in this episode, which is made to look like it was suicide.
  • Cliché Storm: In-Universe, the speech Jane writes for Fabian is riddled with every cliche phrase she could think of, but Fabian loves it.
  • Dirty Old Woman: The only reason that Isabel Allende came to Jane's book launch party was because she saw a nude selfie that Fabian posted online in Jane's party, knowing he'll be there.
  • Flashback Echo: Jane has a few of these, as situations remind her of Michael.
  • Happy Dance: Jane does a few after saying she's a published author.
  • Love Hurts: Adam breaks Jane's heart by choosing a job in LA over her.
  • Magic Realism: A recurring theme, starting with Isabel Allende's The House of the Spirits.
  • Never Suicide: Anezka is found hanging from the ceiling, but the narrator asserts that she didn't kill herself.
  • Put on the Bus: Adam leaves for LA in this episode.
