Recap / Half Life Interloper

Go To

Gordon continues his exploration around several floating islands of Xen, and fighting whatever Xen alien or wildlife he comes across to reach the teleporters that will take him to the next areas. Upon his third teleportation, Gordon finds himself transported into an alien factory where enslaved Vortigaunts have been working to produce the Alien Grunts that were seen throughout the later sections of the game. Gordon makes his way through the factory until reaching a teleporter that finally takes him out of the complex. He finds himself on an empty Xen platform in front of a large dangerous looking red teleporter, and upon going through it...

This Chapter contains examples of:

  • Multicultural Alien Planet: The level itself provides most of Xen's world-building, such as showing the Vortigaunts enslavement, and an actual working alien factory where Alien Grunts are created.
  • Sequence Breaking: Several.
    • On the first island map, the teleporter to the next area is on a floating island behind the player. If you're quick enough before your starting high platform breaks, you can explosion jump over to the teleporter island if you have enough health to survive the self-explosion. Thus, skipping having to traverse this entire island.
    • Another sequence break on the first island map is that the pillar elevator you reach later can be seen rising up at the start of the level. If you're quick enough, you can jump over to it at the start of the level with the Long Jump Module to take the pillar elevator up to the sky. Thus, leaving you with just the platform jumping part of the level to complete as it skips the underground tunnel section to reach the base of the elevator.
    • In the Alien Grunt Factory, there's a pair of pillars going up-and-down next to an acid pool that you drop into. Jumping onto the pillars allows the player to reach the upper floor when the pillar rises to its highest point, which skips having to go the long way around this area of the factory.
  • Sidetrack Bonus: This level is filled with these if you explore around each of the two islands and the Alien Grunt factory. One noteworthy side-area is the spiral platforms in the last factory section with the spinning elevators. There's no need whatsoever to traverse the spiral platform area unless you're in need for some supplies.
  • Weird Sun: One of the maps has a horizontally mirrored sunrise. It's unknown whether it's atmospheric reflection or an actual binary system.
