So the animals debated how they might drive the robbers out, and at last settled on an idea.

A string of robberies by a trio of Wesen petty criminals, take a disturbing turn when they use their woges as "masks" and the community begins to feel the heat, as the robbers threaten to expose Wesen to the world. Nick races to stop and catch them on his own, while Monroe and Rosalee ponder informing the Wesen Council, who will deal with the matter more ruthlessly and efficiently.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Bank Robbery: The first scene after the title has Monroe witnessing one of these, with the robbers woged to disguise their appearances.
  • Blood Magic: The final ingredient in the potion Juliette and Renard take is Nick's blood, once the purification potion has done its work. He and Monroe decide not to tell Juliette and Renard, and Monroe and Rosalee use slieght-of-hand to keep them from getting a good look at the vial.
  • Bottomless Pit: Juliette's plot in the episode consists of imagining that the floor of her house has been replaced by a void, presumably every place Nick has been and where the gaps in her memory are.
  • Conspicuously Public Assassination: Cole and Krystal are gunned down in front of several reporters by Alexander's assassin, as a warning to anyone with the same ideas.
  • Dirty Coward: For all of his bravado and viciousness, Cole quickly surrenders when he sees Nick is a Grimm.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Gus only wanted to rob a few banks and get some money, and is unnerved and tries to quit when Cole and Krystal revel in killing bystanders and talk about openly woging during their next heist.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Krystal and Cole's arrogance and desire to end The Masquerade through Ax-Crazy methods is pretty similar to the Black Claw, three years later.
    • After a certain time, the Bottomless Pit hallucinated by Juliette starts to feature lightning that moves in an odd way, similar to synapses flaring. If the pit represents the hole in her memories where Nick should be, things are changing in there...
  • Get a Room!: After the opening robbery is over, Gus tells Cole and Krystal to get down so he can drive the getaway car.
  • Good Is Not Soft: De Groot, Alexander and their punishments for those who threaten to expose Wesen to the humans, are introduced in this episode. Even Renard helps out by sending De Groot pictures of Cole and Krystal.
  • Innocent Bystander: Cole guns down two bystanders while escaping from one of the robberies.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Krystal stops Cole from attacking Gus, saying he might kill him, but only because she wants to do it herself.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Quite a few Portland Wesen from earlier episodes, such as a couple of Bud's friends, the patient who received the wrong medication from Monroe in "The Bottle Imp", and one of the parishioners from "The Good Shepard" are seen crowded around the spice shop freaking out at the idea of the robberies bringing the heat down on all of them.
  • No Honor Among Thieves: After killing Gus, Cole and Krystal go back to their secondary hideout to take his cut.
  • No-Sell: Cole and Krystal both woge to intimidate Nick and Hank when they get caught. Since Nick is a Grimm and Hank is in the know, it doesn't work.
  • Not What I Signed on For: Gus says that he only signed on to do bank robberies, not expose himself to the whole world.
  • Outlaw Couple: Cole and Krystal.
  • Shout-Out: The episode title is obviously a reference to Natural Born Killers.
  • Tongue Trauma: Cole threatens to cut out a hobo's tongue.
  • Wham Line: Juliette wakes up to another hallucination that her bed is floating above another void, and can hear distorted words on repeat. As they repeat, the words become clear: "I just want you to know the truth," Nick's words to her in "Woman In Black".
  • You All Meet in a Cell: Cole and Gus met while the two were in jail.
