Out they scampered from doors, windows and gutters, rats of every size, all after the piper.

Nick and Hank's investigation of a dead high school teacher leads them to the school's outcast, Roddy. Nick realizes that there's more to Roddy than meets the eye, and enlists Monroe's help to get through to the troubled teenager before he exacts revenge on the students who wronged him. Meanwhile, Nick learns that his presence is beginning to affect the Wesen world.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Call-Back: Monroe recalls the events of "Bears Will Be Bears" when he reminds Nick, "Last time I protected someone for you, it was not a pleasant experience. How is that guy, by the way, were they able to sew his arm back on?"
  • Chekhov's Gunman: The refrigerator repairman is Bud; this episode marks his first appearance on the show.
  • Fairytale Motifs: The Pied Piper. The Monster of the Week is a rat-like creature who can control rats with the power of music.
  • Fantastic Legal Weirdness: Discussed with Hank and Nick about what to charge Roddy with, since 'music' doesn't exactly count as a deadly weapon.
  • Oh, Crap!: Poor Bud, when he realises that his customer with the broken fridge is the stuff of his childhood nightmares.
  • Pun: Courtesy of Wu.
Wu: Looks like they (the music students) are going to have to face the music.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: When Juliette wonders why the repairman freaked out so badly when he saw Nick, she speculates that Nick might have arrested him at some point. Nick doesn't argue. However, when Bud sneaks back to get his tools, Juliette tries to reassure him but Bud has no idea what she's talking about.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Hank is scared of rats. Becomes a Brick Joke at the end of the episode when Nick gives him a pizza... with a rubber rat on it.
