Recap / Ed Edd N Eddy S 5 E 17 Tween A Rock And An Ed Place

Go To

The Eds get invited to Jonny and Plank's Groovy Arbor Day Party. When the Eds arrive, the party turns out to be boring as nobody besides the Eds actually attended the party.

Tropes:

  • Broken Record: "Never ending party, never ending party, never ending party..."
  • Comically Missing the Point: Jonny doesn’t realize that the other kids didn’t come because they hate him and bought their excuses for not showing upnote .
  • Crocodile Tears: Jonny is revealed to have used these in order to manipulate Eddy into staying.
  • Death Glare: Eddy gives Double D a pure Grin of Rage after Jonny says they will be watching over a youngling till it becomes a full grown tree which will take a very long time.
Eddy: We'll be a hundred years old!
  • Downer Ending: Edd persuades Eddy into staying at the party with Ed and Jonny, which turns out to be a huge mistake as it ends with the Eds being forced to stay at Jonny's place for a hundred years.
  • Grin of Rage: Eddy has a perfect one by the end: when Jonny announces that the first activity of their "never-ending party" — the one that Eddy almost escaped getting locked into save for Double D's conscientious persuasion before either of them knew what they were about to get into — is forming a daisy-chain around a sprout until it fully grows into a tree, Eddy responds by flashing a demented grin at Double D whilst his eyes are burning with pure murderous rage.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Sort of. Edd's suggestion to Eddy that they simply play along and let Jonny make his arbor day wish backfires as Ed and according to Jonny, Plank both wish the party never ends and they party forever. As a result Edd and Eddy are trapped in Jonny's house until a small tree grows which will take many decades.
  • Honor Before Reason: Because of Edd's persuasion to Eddy to stay with Jonny in order for the latter to make his wish, they are forced to stay and party "forever."
  • Jerkass Ball: Jonny holds it big time in this episode. He reveals that his crying over Eddy leaving the party was fake in order to get him to stay, and ties the Eds to his arms to stay in his house for one hundred years. He (with help from Ed) even locks the door to prevent Eddy and Double D from escaping.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: When Jonny cries about Eddy leaving the party, Eddy feels sympathy and begrudgingly stays at the party.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The Eds could have gone home had Double D not let Eddy make them stay at Jonny's house.
  • Only One Finds It Fun: Ed, being Ed, was the only one of the Eds to enjoy Jonny's bizarre party and shared the sentiment for it too last forever.
  • Only Sane Man: Eddy and Double D (to a slightly lesser extent) play this role, as they do not take too kindly to the lackluster festivities and strange customs at Jonny's Arbor Day Party.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Not liking how the party is going so far, Eddy decides to leave. However, Double D convinces him to stay until Jonny & Plank make their Abor Day wish.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Even though the Eds were invited to Jonny’s party, considering it’s Jonny we’re talking about, the Eds especially Eddy and Double D should had suspected the party would go as well as they would expect which they don’t.
  • Where the Hell Is Springfield?: This is one of the episodes that indicate Peach Creek is located somewhere in the United States.
    • The episode apparently takes place in October and Double-D points out to Jonny that Arbor Day (for the United States at least) is always on the last Friday in April, which isn't for at least six more months.
    • In Canada, where the show is produced, the date of Arbor Day varies between provinces, with no national date set. There is, however, National Forest Week, set during the last full week of September. Wednesday of this week is known as National Tree Day.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Jonny fakes crying in order to buy Eddy's sympathy and have him stay at the party.
