Mission 6:

Tracking Down the Real Terrorists

Chikane's VTOL sets back down at the helipad in Prague. Miller comes out to meet them and calls out Adam for letting Rucker die. Adam tells both men that he believes someone in ARC set up Rucker and deliberately killed him to make things worse, and mentions that Rucker had evidence to prove that ARC was innocent. When Adam is given the choice to hand over the Pocket Secretary he found in Rucker's office, he decides to play dumb and keep the information for Vega. Miller warns that things are going to get much worse. Adam pledges to go back and get informaton on the bombing from the optical drive he recovered for Smiley, while Miller leaves with Chikane to talk to the state police in Golem City.

After they fly off, Adam calls Vega and lets her know about Rucker's death. She's horrified by the news and says that Prague is going to explode when the public finds out. Upon telling her that Miller has gone to Golem City, she suggests searching his apartment for clues. He tells her to keep investigating the supposed break-in at Versalife she told him about at their last meeting, and says that he'll investigate Miller's apartment himself.

Sarif also calls to let Adam know that Vadim Orlov is currently in Prague. He tells Adam that Orlov previously obtained a Visa to come and go from the country, and arrived in Prague that morning. Sarif gives Orlov's address to Adam, who searches it and finds a storage unit with photographs of himself and Vega, along with a map showing the various destinations both of them have been seen at. He also finds Orlov dead in his apartment, and calls Sarif to relay the information. Adam tells him that Orlov looks exactly like a doctor named "McFadden" who worked on him when he was laid up in the coma ward in Alaska. He asks Sarif to continue checking into the matter, and searches the body to find a Tai Yong Medical vault keycard, along with a confidential medical report on himself in a nearby safe.

Adam heads into TF29 and finds Smiley, who tells him he was able to recover some of the information from the drive. He tells Adam that part of the evidence recovered included a timing mechanism used for one of the bombs, and that it came from a wristwatch. Furthermore, Smiley tells Adam that the watch is a Stanek design, made by a local watchmaker named Nomad Stanek. Smiley gives him Stanek's address and tells him to pay him a visit and find out more before going back to his investigation.

Upon leaving the building, Adam is shocked to see an explosion go off in the distance. He runs towards the blast site and finds several people looking on in shock at a ruined storefront, which is revealed to be Stanek's watch store. A nearby homeless man gives up information to Adam after some coercion, and says that Stanek is hiding somewhere in the Red Light District.

Before heading off, Adam goes to Stanek's apartment and finds a secret room. Upon accessing the terminal and reading some emails, an automated video plays from Radich Nikoladze, the head of the Dvali crime family. Nikoladze chides Stanek for being a "loose end" before the door shuts behind Adam and gas begins to filter into the room. Using a hidden vent passage under a stack of boxes, Adam is able to escape before being poisoned.

Smiley radios Adam after he leaves the apartment to tell him that he radioed ahead for extra help, and that Stanek was caught and is being held in police custody in the Red Light District. Upon arriving, Stanek is frightened and paranoid. When Adam asks him who made the timing mechanism for the bomb, Stanek accidentally lets slip that his daughter, Allison Stanek, did it, and that she was involved with the station bombing because Viktor Marchenko convinced her to help usher in a new order. Before Stanek leaves, he also reveals that she is the leader of the Prague sect of the Church of the MachineGod.

Adam decides to leave the Stanek matter for the moment and heads back to TF29 to see what other leads he can dig up...

Tropes:

  • A Storm Is Coming: Miller warns that Rucker's death may be a catalyst that heightens tensions between augs and "naturals", and says that Golem City is going to become a warzone as a result.
  • Continuity Nod: The medical report about Adam (about his recuperation in Alaska after being pulled from the wreckage of Panchaea) elaborates on events that are described in Deus Ex Universe: Black Light.
  • Developer's Foresight:
    • Once you arrive back in Prague, it's possible to find and knock out Radich Nikoladze at his hideout in the Prague Theater before even knowing who he really is. Doing so causes Otar Botkeveli to take over the Dvali crime family, and if you've done all his side missions for him, he will welcome you in with open arms.
    • It's also possible to revisit Ruzicka Station, despite the fact that there's no indication that you can get there anymore (it was previously locked off from the transit system until Chang hacked it). Doing so gives you access to a memorial for the victims (along with a vial of NuPoz that can be stolen from a shrine), an Easter Egg photo of the dev team and a way to access the eBook that have could have been missed during the previous visit.
  • Easter Egg: If you examine the cereal box in Adam's apartment, a cutscene plays where he discovers a model VTOL with a note attached to the bottom of the box (and referring to him as "Spyboy"). This hints that Faridah Malik canonically survived the events of Human Revolution.
  • Foreshadowing: Doing the Sarif sidequest early enough nets you a Tai Yong Medical vault keycard, which can be used at the Palisade Bank to access their secure storage vault.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Miller calls out Adam for failing to bring back Rucker. Depending on the player's choice, they can either give Rucker's Pocket Secretary to assuage his concerns, or play dumb and say he didn't find anything. If you choose to call out Miller for sending you to Golem City in the first place, he blasts you and says that he was setting Adam up for success, not failure.
  • You Have Failed Me: If the player chose not to assassinate Louis Gallois, Otar will call and chastise you for not keeping up your end of the deal. He then says that he's going to make things much worse for you in the future.
