Go To

When a popular, yet troubled singer's body double is killed, she's placed in police protection where she befriends Alexis.

Tropes:

  • Bittersweet Ending: Poor Claire died for trying to do the right thing and Mandy has discovered her mother is a straight-up sociopath. However, she is able to recover her relationship with Zach and seems to be back on the path to recover, plus she now has a new supportive friend in Alexis.
  • Body Double: The murder victim was actually Mandy’s double Claire, intended to deflect attention from Mandy at key moments. It turns out that she was the intended target rather than Mandy, as she was going to confess her role in "framing" Mandy for cheating on her current boyfriend with her more destructive ex.
  • Hidden Depths: Mandy hates her life and was planning to run away from it with her boyfriend.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Mandy is clearly intended to be based on Miley Cyrus, to the extent that she had a TV series where she played a crime-fighting pop star whose "disguise" was just sunglasses and a wig, evidently intended to reference Hannah Montana.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Discussed when talking about Mandy's old show. Mandy plays this straight in the present when sneaking into a club to speak to a friend, as she just puts up her hood and wears sunglasses. Predictably, she's discovered once some patrons get a good look at her face sans sunglasses.
  • Right Behind Me: Alexis talks with Castle in the station's waiting room about how she loved Mandy's old show but then goes into about how much of a Hard-Drinking Party Girl she ended up being, calling her a "hot mess" and only learns after she's made her rant that Mandy is alive and in the same room.
  • Satchel Switcheroo: Alexis and Mandy accidentally swap phones, leading them to connect and give each other some advice.
  • She Knows Too Much: Mandy's mom paid Jesse and Claire to fake the photo that made Zach break up with Mandy. When Claire had a change of heart and threatened to expose the truth, Marilyn killed her.
  • Skewed Priorities: It seems Mandy's mother would prefer her daughter be famous and successful (and thus making her successful by proxy) than healthy and happy.
  • Stage Mom: Marilyn forcibly broke Mandy and Zach up because Mandy was planning to run away with Zack. She justifies it by saying she didn't want her pop star daughter to leave her fame behind.
