Recap / Burn Notice S 3 E 6 The Hunter

Go To

A mysterious figure reaches out to Michael, an agent (Hollywood style, not CIA style) to spies by the name of Tom Strickler. He's morally gray figure at best and Michael is reluctant to work with him. Strickler has heard that an old enemy of Michael's is in town from Ukraine and Strickler offers to set it up so that they both get paid when Michael takes the Ukrainian out. Instead of working with Strickler, Michael opts to go through a contact of Fi's, a gun runner by the name of Beck. However, the Ukrainian arrives early and kidnaps both Michael and Beck, taking them out to the Everglades, and they have to work together to survive.

  • Beware the Silly Ones: Madeleine successfully cows Sam into telling her what's going on and keeping in touch with her throughout the op. Then she scares Chechik's pilot shitless by talking to him quietly and sweetly while Sam and Fi argue in another room.
Maddy: Are you sure you don't want a cigarette? Good for the nerves. Not like you have to worry about getting cancer any more. [chuckle]
  • From Camouflage to Criminal: After the fall of the Soviet Union, Checknik went from member of the KGB to freelance mercenary. Michael mocks him for it over the radio, stating he like it better back when guys like Chechik "actually believed in something".
  • It's Personal: Chechik has personal history with Michael from the days of the Soviet Union, though Sam doesn't elaborate beyond Michael blowing up something very important.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Beck is unwilling to work with Michael and this causes a number of problems throughout the episode. He finally wises up near the end though.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Even though it's increasingly clear Michael knows what he's doing in a swamp and Beck doesn't, Beck insists on doing incredibly stupid shit that nearly gets him killed on multiple occasions.
