Recap / Burn Notice S 2 E 13 Bad Breaks

Go To

Michael's recruited to help a woman dealing with a serious stalker, only for CSS agent Jason Bly to show up and throw a wrench into the monkey. However, it quickly turns out that the stalker is a bank robber, and Michael and Jason end up having to work together to escape a very dangerous situation.

  • Bottomless Magazines: Averted with the gun Michael grabs. The guy he choked out fired off most of the rounds during the struggle.
  • "Die Hard" on an X: Die Hard in a bank.
  • Fun with Subtitles: Prescott is announced as a stalker... then as a bank robber.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: With no way of knowing that Michael has sabotaged Prescott's gun, Bly takes the blame for cutting into the next wall and unflinchingly prepares to take the bullet.
  • Hollywood Silencer: Michael applies a blood choke to one of the henchmen and the guy fires off nearly double digits before he passes out. Because of the magic of silencers, no one hears anything, even though it happens indoors.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Once again, by chance, Team Westen steps in to completely fuck up a bad guy's day.
  • Stalker with a Crush: What Paula thinks she's dealing with, until it turns out to be a bank robbery.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Michael and Jason are antagonistic to say the least. However, as the episode progresses, Michael earns Jason's trust and they proceed through Vitriolic Best Buds to Headbutting Heroes to Fire-Forged Friends. Not least because Michael saves Jason's arm, if not his life, and the lives of everyone else caught in the bank heist.

"He's not a stalker."

The A-plot of "Bad Breaks" has Michael agree to scare off a man stalking Paula, a friend of his mother. When "Prescott" turns up outside Paula's workplace, a private bank, Michael gets a hunch that the man is only stalking her as an excuse to case the place -- a hunch that is quickly proven right, as Prescott storms the lobby at the head of a small gang of robbers.
