Gas-Powered Stick is the seventh episode of Bravest Warriors.
The episode opens with the Bravest Warriors swimming in the pool near their Invisible Hideout. Wallow dives from the top of the hideout, screaming "Belly flop!", but freezes before he hits the water, and drops in with a tiny splash, which the others applaud. Chris is impressed, but Danny quips that Wallow was just using his Hover Trunks and that he could make an even tinier splash with his Hover Mustache. We then see the Bravest Warriors's pets for the first time: There's the insanely adorable Catbug, a cross between a cat and a bug, whose every line becomes a meme; the rainbow-coloured, moustached bear known as Impossibear (probably because he's impossible to live with); and finally a small space chicken, who is never mentioned again after this episode.
Impossibear is looking through a SkyMall expy, and purchases some "petite diabetic support socks" (with Wallow's money). Suddenly, the Emotion Lord raises his head thorugh the ground and hands Impossibear a "gas-powered stick".
Catbug: (flying away) Don't hit me!
Next we see a visitor arrive at the hideout: The Bravest Warrior's resident Sixth Ranger Plum, making her first appearance in the series. Chris awkwardly invites her in, asking her if she's "th- the Beth's friend". She also calls herself a merewif, although this isn't expanded upon until the end of the episode, which made her ineligible for her license until a later date. Danny offers her a drive since he has his license, and Wallow remarks that he was born with his. Literally. Danny and Wallow then begin to compete for Plum's attention.
Plum: Ooh!
Chris: Y'know, I was gonna— (Danny unlocks his car again, interrupting him)
Wallow: (Shining spotlight in Plum's eyes) Hey, look over here! Look at this!
(Danny strums banjo with his feet)
(Wallow shifts his fingers and thumb to make it look like his finger is missing)
(Danny strums faster)
(Wallow shifts his fingers faster)
Chris asks Plum and Beth if they're hungry, but is interrupted by Wallow desperately trying to keep their attention. Chris leaves to get a soft taco, and Catbug flies in to warn everyone about Impossibear's gas-powered stick, but it's too late. Impossibear runs in, followed by the space chicken, and he exclaims that the stick "never runs out of gas!" Plum remarks that the bear is cute, but he whacks her across the legs with the stick. He steals Wallow's packet of chips and walks away. Beth tells Plum that they should hang out in her room before they get pregnant. Wallow and Danny run to where they were sitting and begin inhaling their scents from the couch and cushions.
Impossibear walks through the hideout before suddenly coming to a realisation: "Never runs outta ga—... Urh. This is a jive-ass stick." Impossibear, grown tired of the stick, throws it behind him, and it lodges itself into the ground. From where it landed spurts a large peach tree, with a ripe fruit hanging from one of the branches. Chris walks along and grabs it, exclaiming that it has to be "the most perfect peach ever!" He devours it whole, removing the peach pit and throwing it out of the window. However, the "jive-ass peach pit" flings back like a boomerang and lodges itself in Chris's forehead. His eyes turn blue and he gains the ability to see through walls. After seeing Catbug in his room introducing himself to a nearby spider, Chris finds himself looking into Beth's room. He tries not to look, but ends up peering through one eye to see Beth shaving her armpits.
Plum: (walking out of Beth's room) What'cha doin'?
Chris: What? Uh-! (Slams into Beth's wall) What's happenin'? Girlfriend— Uh... Ma'am—
Plum: (laughing) Plum? Remember me? From ten minutes ago? So you're just... Chillin' out... Singin' to the wall, huh?
Plum walks up to Chris and remarks that Beth was right - Chris is interesting. She asks if she can try "something weird", which Chris agrees to, before Plum immediately kisses him, shocking him. While she is kissing him, he sees the inside of her head for a second, noticing that she has two brains.note When she stops kissing him, Chris finds that he can no longer use his X-Ray vision. Plum, who appears to have her own, hitherto unseen agenda enters a room by herself, where she pulls the peach pit from her mouth, and looks across angrily at the Emotion Lord hiding out in a washing machine. She crushes the pit in her hand.
A few hours later, Chris and Plum are outside the hideout while the sun is setting. Plum is still confused and Chris elaborates that the Hideout isn't exactly secret, it's just invisible. Before she leaves, Chris tells her that while he really liked "smooching on [her] face", it came at a bad time, because of the UST between him and Beth. Before he can show her the exit, he turns to find that she has disappeared, with only the sound of a splash. He looks out into the horizon, and it's finally revealed what a "merewif" is:
A mermaid tail pops out of the ocean.
This episode contains examples of:
- Aborted Arc: Plum's two brains and split personality, only expanded upon in the comics.
- Artifact Title: The titular Gas-Powered Stick.
- Cutaway Gag: Happens at the end.Plum: Okay, buddy, I can see the windows...and that little wooden seagull with the spinny wings!
(cut to the seagull) - Establishing Character Moment: Catbug is whacked by the titular gas-powered stick, and he flies off saying "Don't hit me!" in an adorable voice, cementing his status as both a Ridiculously Cute Critter and a Fountain of Memes. This same moment also serves as one for Impossibear, cementing his status as a straight-up Jerkass.
- Foreshadowing: It's shown that Plum has two brains. This is only, however, Foreshadowing for the comics. In the show, it is merely an Aborted Arc.
- Hairy Girl: Beth temporarily, before she shaves her armpits.
- Jerkass: Impossibear whacks Plum on her legs. For no reason.
- Late-Arrival Spoiler: Basically any discussion of Plum will warrant people talking about her being a mermaid (to some extent) as if it wasn't a spoiler. It's fair enough at this point, but still.
- Meanwhile, at the Bravest Warriors' Invisible Hideout!
- Mundane Made Awesome: The titular gas-powered stick. Which is literally just a stick.
- Musicalis Interruptus: When Chris' song about Beth actually starts going somewhere, suddenly Plum pops out in the hallway and says "What'cha doin'?"
- Our Mermaids Are Different: Plum is actually a "merewif", a form of mermaid.
- Running Gag: "Jive-ass [X]!"
- X-Ray Vision: Temporarily developed by Chris when he eats the peach.
- Wham Shot: Used to reveal that Plum is a mermaid.
