Recap / Atop The Fourth Wall The Other Insano

Go To

Our story opens one week after the fight with Mechakara. Linkara still found himself puzzled about who really destroyed the Continuity Alarm. After he finished his review of Strange Adventures #136, he left his room and we discover who really did it: A man who looks like Linkara, sounds like Linkara, but is wearing the same glasses as Doctor Insano. This is Doctor Linksano, who also came through the Hypertime rift. The Continuity Alarm discovered Linkasno ahead of time but was silenced before it could give the full details. Like our Insano, Linksano has mad aspirations for taking over the world.

Linksano, like Mechakara before him, initially remained in the background, setting up shop in Linkara's house. He harbors resentment towards Insano for perfecting the Anti-Magic Field Generator Kit before he did, and for his loud troubles, his room gets gassed by an ignorant Linkara. Linksano later tormented Linkara at the end of his review of The Dark Knight Strikes Again #2 by switching it out with Sultry Teenage Super Foxes #2. Linksano further toyed with our hero after he uses a blacklight effect generator to make the Magic Gun and a lighter disappear at the end of the review of JLA: Act of God Part 3. By this point though, Pollo became aware of Linksano's existence and managed to chase him off, restoring Linkara's items.

Meanwhile, during Spoony's first part review of Final Fantasy X, Doctor Insano has seemingly lost Neutro, and Linkara was working on two wrist-mounted devices before his review of Athena #1.

Linksano enacted his next scheme by using fellow Internet Reviewer Film Brain to lure Linkara under false pretenses to watch Iron Man 2. Instead, Linkara was forced to watch and review The Spirit. After the review, an irate Linkara knocks out Film Brain and leaves, suspecting that there was somebody else pulling the strings. Satisfied with Linkara being weakened with "A concentrated dose of Miller", Linksano put his next plan into motion: tamper with Hypertime, as was done before.

The story reaches its climax with Linksano warping space and time, and forcing the multiverse Linkaras to review Warrior #2 and #3. Doctor Insano however was not impressed, and it erupts into a brawl with Insanos across the multiverse scientifically duking it out. Despite the Insanos eventually making a truce, the various members of Channel Awesome led by Linkara once again give the Insanos a royal beat down.

And so our story ends with our Doctor Insano back in his lab, demanding for more restraining bolts. Unbeknownst to him, the robotic eye of a piece of flesh once again lights up. MECHAKARA LIVES!

Tropes

  • Always Someone Better: Dr. Linksano is rather dismayed to find out that Dr. Insano has achieved far more than he has as a mad scientist.
  • Anything but That!: Dr. Linksano threatens to make Linkara review Warrior #2-3, which he naturally refuses. When he suggests that they watch TNA Impact instead, Linkara immediately agrees to read the Warrior issues instead.
  • Breather Episode: Breather arc, actually; his stated purpose for the Dr. Linksano arc was to just give the viewers a bit of fun after the comparatively serious and suspenseful previous one.
  • Call-Back: The Warrior #2-3 co-review with Spoony features a bunch of call-backs to the original Warrior review—including Bennett yelling about what happened in the Warrior Christmas special not happening on their watch. Marzgurl's response? "Wrong year!" The review also hearkens back to Spoony's Party Mania review. The reason? Dr. Linksano is apparently one of the Schlumper Brothers.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Turns out that the Insano doppelganger, played by Linkara, that appeared when Insano screwed with Hypertime was actually Dr. Linksano who would go on to have increasingly prominent roles in Atop the Fourth Wall.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Lewis' (now ex-) girlfriend Iron Liz briefly appears out of nowhere during the ''Warrior'' 2–3 review, lampshading that no one will have any idea who the hell she is (Lewis himself did not help much, responding to any questions about who she was with a simple "She's Iron Liz" before Liz got a blog and revealed that they were dating). She made her first official appearance in the review of Chain Gang War #1
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: When Linkara reviews Darker Image #1 and does his EXTREME! joke one of the phrases that appears is "His Vyce Is Conquest".
  • Foreshadowing: There are quite a few hints in this arc of Lord Vyce's eventual appearance on the show. From the Freeze-Frame Bonus mentioned above to Mechakara inside of Linkara's hallucination telling him "All that he sees he conquers."
  • Serial Escalation: Invoked by Dr. Linksano who decides to make Linkara review two issues of the Warrior comics to one up Dr. Insano who only made Linkara read one. Linksano and Insano also up the total mad scientist count from a year prior by summoning an entire team of Insano's to do battle with each other...and then get beat up by the critics.
  • Skewed Priorities: Pollo arrives at the end of the review of The Dark Knight Strikes Again #2 and informs Linkara of Linksano's presence. But the only thing that Linkara can focus on is the fact that someone made a second issue of Sultry Teenage Super Foxes.
  • Take That!: When Linksano confronts Linkara (who due to Hypertime being screwed up is being played by Spoony) that he is going to force him to read two issues of the Warrior comics Linkara tells him he wont do it. Linksano then says they can probably get the same result from watching TNA Impact and Linkara immediately decides to read the comics.
  • We Can Rule Together: Linksano and Insano eventually call a truce during their fight once they realise that, instead of fighting each other, they could team up to take over the multiverse together. Unfortunately for them the critics arrive immediately after they form their alliance and put the kibosh on that plan.
  • Wimp Fight: Unsurprisingly once the various Insano's from multiple universes begin fighting many of them resort to this kind of fighting. Special points go to the Insano's who literally try ineffectually slapping one another (and end up hurting their own hands).
