  • All According to Plan: The episode ends with Prometheus in his ARGUS cell smirking as Oliver gives his speech on TV, implying that being caught was all just part of his plan.
  • Arc Words: "Leave the past in the past."
  • Armor-Piercing Question: In the flashbacks:
    Anatoli: The people closest to you always pay the most for your sins. You are paying for your father's. Who will pay for yours?
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • Given that Prometheus found William last episode, viewers are led to thinking that the corpse in the crate is his. But it isn't.
    • Oliver catches Chase ... 10 minutes before the episode ends. However it turns out it's exactly what he wanted.
  • Batman Gambit: Adrian's trap to distract Oliver and the team from Sampson required (a) Oliver to discover the link between the concrete Goodman was encased in and the abandoned building the trap was in, (b) someone from the team falling into the trap, (c) this happening while Sampson was pulling off his thefts, and (d) having everyone come to the rescue and not have someone maintain a watch on Sampson.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Curtis' T-Spheres once again save the day, this time by cutting a hole in the room where John and Oliver are being buried in concrete.
  • Break Her Heart to Save Her: How Rene tries to justify not appearing in court for his daughter, since she got a good foster home and he doesn't want to put her through old traumas again by testifying.
  • Break Them by Talking: Subverted. Oliver appears to do this to Chase, but it turns out this is still part of his plan.
  • Broken Pedestal: Robert Queen gets another moment of this posthumous by being revealed to have covered up an Accidental Murder.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • Sampson due to a judge releasing him on bail.
    • Thea comes back after being absent for the last quarter or so.
    • In the flashbacks, Anatoli since there weren't any for the past couple of weeks.
    • Kovar comes back too.
  • Call-Back:
    • We see Oliver set up the iconic image from the pilot of Slade's mask staked to a post with an arrow in the eyehole.
    • Oliver says that compared to Adrian's betrayal, Isabel Rochev comes off as a saint.
    • Thea mentions that she is used to having horrible people as her parents by now, citing Malcolm.
    • We learned about Robert's Accidental Murder back in a Season 1 flashback.
    • Oliver found the Video Wills Robert left him and Thea during a Season 3 flashback. And when Oliver finally gives Thea hers, she jokingly compares it to the hosen he gave her in the pilot.
    • Oliver and Anatoly stand at the graves of all his loved ones that died on the island, like Taiana and Shado.
  • Character Development: Oliver has become much happier in his outlook towards his work as the Green Arrow, saying that they deserve to enjoy themselves after having placed Chase in custody.
  • Cliffhanger: The flashback ends with Kovar attacking Oliver, mere hours before the boat is suppose to pick him up.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Chase seemingly crosses it after hearing that his father planned to disown him, even giving Oliver his blade to kill him. His self confident stance in his cell at the end however implies that this too was part of his plan.
  • Frame-Up: Subverted. Oliver thinks Adrian tries to posthumously frame his dad, but he really did kill a councilman.
  • Foregone Conclusion: We all know that Oliver is gonna survive and get off the island no matter what Kovar does.
  • Hand Wave: For those who wondered throughout the flashbacks how Oliver's beard and hair got so long so quickly after doing regular trimming, it's explained this episode that Anatoly got him some fakes to make his story more believable.
  • He's Back!: Oliver drops the black and becomes the Green Arrow, once more.
  • I Am Not My Father: Oliver and Thea decide to leave the legacy of their parents behind and be their own people.
  • Internal Reveal: Thea and Oliver find out that their dad killed Councilman Henry Goodman. The audience of course has know for quite a while — it was heated argument that got out of hand because Goodman wanted to extort Robert to allow his steel mill in town. It's the reason why Robert joined the Tempest in the first place to atone, before Malcolm got crazy and decided to Kill the Poor. Unfortunately nobody else knows this.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Oliver and Felicity console themselves, that if Felicity can't find Samantha and William, then maybe Prometheus can't either, completely unaware that he's already found them.
  • Love Redeems: Thea defies this, stating that no matter how much their parents loved her and Oliver, it doesn't excuse all the bad stuff they did.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: Sampson's Feel No Pain durability seems to have been enhanced to Nigh-Invulnerability on the level of being Immune to Bullets, with no explanation as to why this is so.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Rene doesn't show to his hearing, so his motion to regain custody of Zoe is denied. Of course, it's not like he had a choice in the matter, as the next episode reveals...
  • Refusal of the Call: Thea refuses to put on her costume again when asked to by her brother.
  • The Reveal: Anatoli bribed the fisherman to go to Lian Yu and bring Oliver home; and Oliver said he'd only been back for two days before he was picked up.
  • Selective Obliviousness: Oliver claims that his father was many things, but not a murderer. He seemingly forgot that one sailor he shot back in Season 1 while they were on the life boat.
  • Shoot the Shaggy Dog Story: Rene doesn't show up to his hearing and thus the request of getting his parental rights back is denied. His daughter looks heartbroken.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Felicity and Curtis mention Witness.
  • Suicide by Cop: After hearing that his father planned to disown him, Adrian offers Oliver his blade to kill him. He doesn't do it.
  • Talking the Monster to Death: Oliver revealing the truth about his father prompts Prometheus to surrender without any further fighting.
  • Talk to the Fist: How Green Arrow defeats Prometheus.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Prometheus has one when Oliver informs that Claybourne was planning on disinheriting him because he was insane. He even begs Oliver to kill him. Oliver opts to turn him over to ARGUS. Subverted when it turns out that he wanted to be inside ARGUS all along.
  • Villainous Legacy: Prometheus wants to cause a TB outbreak to kill the whole city, to honor his father.
  • Wham Line: Dinah reveal that Robert Queen was the the one who put Councilman Goodman in the concrete.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: We're gonna have to wait a little while longer to find out what happened at The Stinger from the previous episode, with Chase encountering William Clayton. Here, Chase is back in Star City and he doesn't bring up William at all.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Quentin tries to convince Rene to show up to the hearing for his daughters sake. Sadly, it doesn't work.
