Recap / Archer S 5 E 12 Archer Vice Filibuster

Go To

Cyril has taken Calderon's position as the dictator of San Marcos by force, throwing Archer and Calderon in prison in the process.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Ambiguous Situation: The Krieger clones. No explanation is given as to where they came from or what they were even doing in San Marcos, but it is clear from Holly and Slater's later reactions that they had no idea of them.
  • And Now You Must Marry Me: Part Two. Although Cyril can at least claim to be winning the civil war, in contrast to Calderon, when he decides to grant himself marriage to Juliana Calderon (her husband divorced her last episode).
  • Asshole Victim: Calderon. Nobody's particularly torn up when he gets tigered, particularly because he, moments before, had given a rant in favor of totalitarianism about how meat is what the tiger says it is because it's at the top of the food chain.
  • Dead Person Impersonation: Possibly. The original Krieger may or may not have died and been replaced by one of the clones.
  • The Dog Bites Back: The whole plot of the episode revolves around Cyril placing Archer in prison after putting up with legions of disrespect from him.
  • The Dragon: Referenced by Lana in a reference to Star Wars, calling Cyril "the Vader to your [Malory's] Palpatine".
  • Enemy Mine: Archer plans on linking up with the rebels just to go crush Cyril's army (never mind that the rest of the ISIS crew is there with him and would presumably be killed by said rebels). It doesn't work out.
  • Gilligan Cut: Cyril says that if Lana wants Archer back she can go get him her own damn - cut to Lana Flipping the Bird at Cyril as she peels out in a Cool Car from Calderon's collection.
  • Hidden Depths: Cyril is actually very good at military strategy, enough to completely turn around a hopeless civil war; apparently a skill he gained from his Warhammer guild.
  • Marital Rape License: Cyril seems to be angling for this, although Juliana flatly tells him that there is no way she will sleep with him, while they are already married.
  • Noodle Incident: Cherlene doesn't really know how she even got the prison cell key.
  • Parental Neglect: Malory seems to be enjoying all the luxuries available now that Cyril is dictator of San Marcos so much that she doesn't even care that he has locked Sterling in the palace dungeon. This is very much in-character for her based on every childhood flashback of his that we have seen.
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: When Malory starts getting used to Cyril being the new dictator, she compares the opportunity as a new Zion. She then becomes confused when Lana compares her partnership with Cyril to Palpatine and Darth Vader, respectively.
  • The Reveal: Holly is a CIA agent. And also leading the rebels. Despite trading cocaine for weapons to Calderon.
  • Uncertain Doom: Of the four Kriegers, only one survives, but it's not clear if he's the original Krieger or one of the clones.
  • Wham Line:
Lana: Yeah, no, that is...um, news, but, uh...my water just broke, so...
