- Bad "Bad Acting": Finn and Jake do this to portray to Princess Bubblegum how the Duke of Nuts potentially saved her life. It fails.
- Baldness Angst: Princess bubblegum doesn't take well her accidental sudden hair loss.
- Bolivian Army Ending: The squirrel and the Marquis leap at Finn and Jake, prepared to kill them. Of course, the next episode shows Finn and Jake will be fine.
- Cassandra Truth: PB refuses to believe the Duke's confession about his pudding deficiency.
- Clear Their Name: Finn has to come to terms with admitting to Princess Bubblegum that the Duke of Nuts didn't turn her green and bald.
- "Fawlty Towers" Plot: Finn's initial failure to admit to Princess Bubblegum that he accidentally hit her with the bottle of potion leads to worse and worse consequences.
- Laser-Guided Karma: Bubblegum forces Finn and Jake to attend the Grand Meeting of Ooo Royalty in the name of the princess while she recovers, where they are targeted by the Marquis and the Squirrel.
- Leitmotif: Whenever the squirrel appears, a guitar riff starts playing.
- Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: The Duke of Nuts is actually a really nice guy who only steals pudding because he has a pudding deficiency. He doesn't tell people about it because he doesn't want people to get worried.
- Paper-Thin Disguise:
- Jake's disguise as an assassin is just a mask over his eyes. Nothing else. Naturally, PB sees right through it.
- Finn and Jake's disguise as Princess Bubblegum consists of them wearing wigs of the Princess' hair. It still works, except for the Marquis and the Squirrel who recognize and attack them.
- Sanity Slippage: Princess Bubblegum takes being turned green and bald pretty badly. Pretty really badly.
- Troubling Unchildlike Behaviour: The Marquis of Nuts is incredibly violent, and seeks to destroy Finn and Jake even after they try clearing his father's name.
- Unknown Rival: The red squirrel.Squirrel: Remember me, Jake?!
Jake: Hmm... nope. - Unusual Euphemism: "You son of a blee-blob!"
