  • In The Armoured Might of Lance Corporal Jones when the gas pipe in the van has sprung a leak and is on fire, Jones tells Walker "do what that Belgian boy did in Brussels", alluding to the legend of a young boy peeing on a powder trail to stop explosives. Fortunately, Jones just got nationalities mixed up and really meant for Walker to plug the hole with his finger. (Referring to the tale of the boy from Holland who plugged a hole in the dyke.)
  • One episode starts with the Vicar trying to find out who vandalized the church's harmonium by writing a rude word on it. We never see the word but we can guess.
    Mainwaring: Have you done that Jones?
    Jones: You mean recently?
  • The Two and a Half Feathers sees Jones narrating an incident from his army days when he and his troop encountered an elderly fakir in the desert. Jones's pronunciation of the word leads to him repeatedly mentioning "the old facker"...
