"I'm still an atheist, thank God."
"Atheism is a non-prophet organization."
"It has been said that the highest praise of God consists in the denial of him by the atheist, who finds creation so perfect that he can dispense with a Creator."
— Marcel Proust, 1921
"My atheism, like that of Spinoza, is true piety towards the universe and denies only gods fashioned by men in their own image to be servants of their human interests."
— George Santayana
During the 1960 Presidential Election, Richard Nixon referred to John Kennedy's Catholicism six times in practically a single breath; he then said, piously, that he did not think religion ought to play a part in any political debate — unless, maybe, the candidate had no religion (and Nixon shuddered ever so slightly).
"An atheist doesn't have to be someone who thinks he has a proof that there can't be a god. He only has to be someone who believes that the evidence on the God question is at a similar level to the evidence on the werewolf question."
— John McCarthy
Q: What do you get when you cross an atheist with a Jehovah's Witness?
A: Someone who knocks on your door for no reason.
"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."
— Stephen F. Roberts
"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?"

Why I am an atheist:
1. Atheists do not believe in higher powers.
2. God is the highest power.
3. Therefore, God must be an atheist.
4. We should all strive to be like God.
5. We should all be atheists.
I don't have the evidence to prove that God doesn't exist, but I so strongly suspect he doesn't that I don't want to waste my time.
Some say God is living there [in space]. I was looking around very attentively, but I did not see anyone there. I did not detect either angels or gods... I don't believe in God. I believe in man—his strength, his possibilities, his reason.
— Cosmonaut Gherman Titov (also attributed to Yuri Gagarin)
