This was practicality taken to the extreme: the tank's interior had been covered with gutted but living soldiers whose exposed innards and blood vessels provided warmth; the soldiers outside sealed in any escaping heat. This was calculated and perfect pragmatism. This was what the German army lacked to carry out the Thousand-Year Reich.
