Basic Trope: Every NPC and/or enemy in a video game looks the same.

  • Straight: Enemy soldiers look exactly the same as the one next to them, down to facial features.
  • Exaggerated:
    • It turns out that every soldier is an identical twin of their comrades.
    • Every single character in the game is exactly the same in every way.
  • Downplayed: Though normally identical, subtle traits, like eye and hair color, can distinguish one from the other.
  • Justified: The Hero is fighting an army of clones
  • Inverted: All enemies have a different model, but your comrades all look identical (you included).
  • Subverted: Every soldier has a unique model...
  • Double Subverted: ...until you realize that those unique models are recycled in later levels.
  • Parodied: Every soldier's model has a prominent nametag which says "Pvt. Generic".
  • Zig Zagged: Most soldiers look the same, but some of them look completely different from each other.
  • Averted:
    • You have no allies or enemies.
    • There is a random-generation algorithm for character models.
  • Enforced:
    • Because of time and budget constraints, the developers had to use the same model for all enemy NPCs.
    • The cart can fit only so many sprites.
  • Lampshaded: A character in your squad exclaims:
"Didn't we just kill you two levels ago?"
  • Invoked: The Big Bad has all his guards look the same so if the hero tries to Dress As The Enemy they will easily be spotted.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Someone tries to clone a soldier to make an army, only to find that Surprisingly Realistic Outcome occurs and all the clones are embryos rather than fully-grown humans, forcing them to hire more soldiers who look different.
  • Discussed: Your True Companions ask "Why does everyone look the same?"
  • Conversed: "Man, you ever notice how every adversary in a game looks the same?
  • Deconstructed: All the soldiers you face are wearing identical masks or face-concealing helmets...
  • Reconstructed: ...but they all look the same underneath their masks/helms, because all of them are clones originated from the same person.
  • Plotted a Good Waste: They don't actually look the same - it's a Unreliable Narrator thing! They look the same to you, because the player character has no reason to really distinguish between them.
