Basic Trope: A fetus is taken from its mother's body in an act of violence.
- Straight: Aerith's baby is violently cut out of her body.
- Exaggerated: Whoever did this makes sure the baby is deader than dead.
- Downplayed: The mother is a fish, or another simple animal.
- Justified:
- Aerith is a prisoner-of-war during a time when there weren't rules against this sort of thing, and the enemy sees this as a way to kill everyone, thus preventing a Genocide Backfire.
- Aerith is pregnant outside of wedlock in a setting where that is completely unacceptable; a form of Honor-Related Abuse, in other words.
- Aerith is involved in a Love Triangle with a Yandere or Cute and Psycho individual, who resents Aerith for being pregnant with Bob's child, or for being pregnant at all.
- Inverted: Aerith isn't pregnant, but her belly is violently cut open and when she wakes up, she's visibly carrying a child.
- Subverted: A man with approaches Aerith with a knife and runs it across her stomach in forceful motion, it's revealed he only cut open her dress, which was too tight...
- Double Subverted: ... But then he plunges the knife into her belly and reaches in.
- Parodied: Whoever does this reaches into Aerith and pulls out a rabbit, a deck of cards, a bunch of silk scarves tied together, a pair of doves, and finally the fetus, complete with a round of applause.
- Zig Zagged: ???
- Averted: No one cuts into Aerith's belly.
- Enforced: Rule of Drama, Primal Fear.
- Lampshaded: "Geez, what kind of depraved sicko would tear a fetus from a pregnant woman's stomach?"
- Invoked: Catherine becomes jealous of Aerith's pregnancy and/or the relationship from which that pregnancy originated.
- Exploited: Aerith's Fetus Terrible psychically absorbs the energy of Aerith's emotional turmoil to power up and fight back against her attacker.
- Defied: Catherine decides to just let it go and does not harm Aerith.
- Discussed: "I don't care what wrong Aerith did to you. No mother-to-be deserves to have their unborn offspring ripped out of their bellies. It's not right!"
- Conversed: "I know the creators want to establish that this guy is an awful person, but couldn't they have done something less graphic and harsh than tearing out a pregnant woman's fetus?"
- Implied: Aerith is seen later with horrible lacerations across her belly and covered in blood, unable to speak due to the horror of the event.
- Deconstructed:
- The villain has no intention of retrieving the infant and simply tortures Aerith, while simultaneously killing the infant and terminating her pregnancy.
- The villain is a trained doctor and knows how to correctly perform the C-section without killing Aerith, but the procedure is extremely painful and not done with any sort of compassion.
- Reconstructed: Once the villain completes the C-section, Aerith is killed afterwards while the doctor makes it look like the baby was also killed before stealing the child away.
- Played For Drama: Aerith's husband is left grieving over the loss of his wife and/or unborn child.
