Basic Trope: The hierarchy or other structure of a work lends itself to the creation of Original Characters.
- Straight: In Team of Tropers, the team of Magical Girl tropers consists of Rose, Poppy, Ivy, Violet, and Daisy, who wear matching black dresses with colored trim to match their flower (eg. Rose has red, Poppy has orange, Ivy has green, Violet has purple, and Daisy has pink). Original Characters with other floral names are common.
- Exaggerated: Rose is a solo Magical Girl that wears a black dress with red colored trim. A fanfic writer introduces Poppy, Ivy, Violet and Daisy, and together they form the group Team of Tropers.
- Downplayed:
- A Team of Tropers fic introduces newcomer Dahlia, but she ends up being a very minor character with little or no bearing on the plot.
- A Team of Tropers fic puts Zinnia, a Toyline-Exclusive Character, in a significant role.
- Justified: Team of Tropers already has a habit of introducing new characters to join or work with the team every so often, and makes it clear from the beginning that "there are others out there."
- Inverted: A Team of Tropers fanfic introduces an evil counterpart team with black trim on multicolored dresses, and they all have names based on animals.
- Subverted: In a Team of Tropers fic, after a new character has been teased for the majority of the chapter, an OC with the name of Alice is friends with, but not a proper member of the team.
- Double Subverted: Later in the fic, she joins the team and is renamed Dahlia and given a black dress with black trim.
- Parodied:
- Original Characters have names of obscure plants like Foxglove or Phlox for the sake of avoiding using the same flower names twice.
- The titular team actually has a sixth member who we know nothing about except that their name is "Insertoriginalcharacterhere".
- Team Of Tropers introduces an obnoxious Parody Sue named Dahlia who makes fun of the fandom's unoriginality.
- Zig Zagged: A Team of Tropers fic introduces a new Magical Girl named Dahlia who becomes part of the team. However, Dahlia turns out to be an unrepentant Jerkass who picks fights with her teammates and is eventually kicked off the team, leaving the canon team members to swear they'll never take in any outsiders again. But during a lated crisis, Dahlia shows up to save the lives of the entire team at the last moment, and so they change their minds and take her back in. Except then she turns out to have been one of the canon villains in disguise all along and this has all been an elaborate set-up to get the team to trust her. And then, at the end, it turns out that this wasn't the real Dahlia, who had been kidnapped and replaced by the villains, and after being rescued joins the team properly.
- Averted: Most fics use only canon characters.
- Enforced: In a Team of Tropers fic, an OC with the name of Alice is friends with, but not a proper member of the team. However, Alice becomes popular with the readers, who keep asking the author to make her part of the team. The author finally gives in and writes a follow-up story where Alice joins the team and adopts the name Dahlia.
- Lampshaded: "Well, I'm a Magical Girl Troper, my name is Iris, I have a black dress with blue trim, I guess you're going to have to let me on the Team of Tropers."
- Invoked: An OC named Dahlia is introduced via one of the members of Team of Tropers specifically seeking out girls with floral names, since she is Genre Savvy and expects a Sixth Ranger to show up at some point anyways.
- Exploited: A Sixth Ranger Traitor OC Lily wears a black dress with white trim to sneak on to the team.
- Defied: An OC with the required floral name is introduced in a fic, and then killed off before she can join the team.
- Discussed:Violet: We have room for more tropers on our Team of Tropers. Heck, any girl with a flower name and a matching dress can join up.
- Conversed: ???
- Deconstructed: The Mentor Mascot of the Team of Tropers made the system easy for newcomers to join to fill a template because they are in need of more people to join them.
