Playing With / Stylistic Suck

Basic Trope: A Show Within a Show is of low quality.
  • Straight: The cast of Alice and Bob watches Space Questers, a Sci-Fi show. The special effects suck, and the acting is bad.
  • Exaggerated: On top of that, the show has horrible writing, bad music and sound effects, and is actually painful for the Real Life audience to watch.
  • Downplayed: Space Questers is merely So Okay, It's Average.
  • Justified: The director of Space Questers is doing a parody.
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted: The main character of Space Questers is having a string of weird moments...but it's revealed to be All Just a Dream.
  • Double Subverted: Except that was a dream, too. And so was that. And that. And...
  • Parodied: Both Space Questers and Alice and Bob are intentionally bad. Alice and Bob is worse than Space Questers.
  • Zig Zagged: Sometimes the episodes on Space Questers are good, sometimes they aren't.
  • Averted: Space Questers is genuinely good.
  • Enforced:
    • "We can't let the Show Within a Show outclass our primary story. The audience isn't interested in it."
    • Space Questers is a Take That to a real-life show.
  • Lampshaded: "Ah, it's so bad it's totally kickass!"
  • Invoked: A director intentionally shoots for So Bad, It's Good.
  • Exploited: The director of Space Questers wants to get out of a job or exploit a budget loophole. It doesn't necessarily work.
  • Defied: The director of Space Questers works as hard as he can to make the work good.
  • Discussed: "Why are you even watching that? It sucks." "I know! That's the beauty of it!"
  • Conversed: "Odd how these kinds of shows never seem to get canceled In-Universe."
  • Deconstructed: Space Questers is considered So Bad, It's Horrible In-Universe.
  • Reconstructed: Space Questers is considered So Bad, It's Good In-Universe.
  • Played For Drama: Space Questers is a Franchise Killer, Genre-Killer, or perhaps a Creator Killer.
