Basic Trope: Non-robotic individual has a robot for a spouse.

  • Straight: Bob's wife Alice is a fully functional gynoid.
  • Exaggerated: Bob is married to the robot girls Alice, Beth, and Carol.
  • Downplayed:
  • Justified:
    • Alice is a fully sentient, humanlike being so it isn't weird she and Bob would want to marry if in love.
    • Alice wasn't always a Robot Girl, having been married to Bob prior to her accident.
    • Bob didn't even mean to marry Alice, though he never expected her to be so interesting to begin with.
    • Alice and Bob are in an Arranged Marriage.
    • Alice and Bob married over The Metaverse before realizing the others' nature.
  • Inverted: Gynoid Alice created Bob to be her husband.
  • Subverted: Alice seems to be a gynoid, but eventually is revealed as human.
  • Double Subverted: ...Bob, however, turns out to be an android.
  • Parodied: Alice is blatantly mechanical and unalive, yet Bob acts like she has a vibrant personality and the most beautiful looks around.
  • Zig Zagged: Alice seems to be a gynoid, until its revealed Bob is the robot in the relationship- Except he's actually a techno-organic cyborg, not a robot. Then it comes to light Alice is, truly, a Mechanical Lifeforms. Yet she eventually becomes a real human, but even then...
  • Averted:
    • Humans and mechanical life simply do not marry each other.
    • Alice and Bob are nothing more than friends.
  • Enforced: "We need to prove Bob really is progressive in this racist society. Let's have him marry the gynoid Alice!"
  • Lampshaded: "Geez man, how much ya have to program her to think you're attractive?"
  • Invoked: Bob, firmly believing that artificial lifeforms are inherently pure, creates Alice to be his wife.
  • Exploited: Drake swaps out Bob's wife Alice with a doppelganger to get him killed.
  • Defied: "Hell no, I'm not gonna plug into a robot's socket! I'm going to romance a real woman!"
  • Discussed: "Hey, I've been hearing a lot about these new insanely humanlike robots, just what kind of rights do they have?" "Well, given how extremely humanlike they are, I imagine they would be allowed to marry humans for one example."
  • Conversed: "I can't believe this show is including robot wives too! It makes me so sick seeing that crap." "Sorry, are you telling me just because they're gynoids and androids the marriage is fake or invalid? Even if they aren't alive, everyone has needs and better robots than something more dire."
  • Implied: Bob's wife Alice suffers from bizarre joint problems where her arms or legs occasionally lock up, but nobody seems to know why.
  • Deconstructed: Nobody around Bob treats his marriage with Alice seriously, and the few who "do" thinks their relationship is entirely about sex. They're thus disrespected and mistreated, frequently getting pointed towards places of perversion, and regularly approached by black market dealers.
  • Reconstructed: Though others don't initially treat the marriage seriously, Bob and Alice's affectionate love for each other eventually makes it clear the relationship is genuine. Even if nobody does, Bob and Alice only care they know they're in love, calmly dealing with the problems that come their way.
  • Played For Laughs: Bob and Alice are obvious Sickeningly Sweethearts who make proclamations of their undying love whenever having to split up to do something.
  • Played For Drama:
    • Whenever Alice tries to leave their marriage, Bob hacks into her memory to delete these thoughts, thus making it nigh-impossible for her to file for divorce.
    • Bob is allowed to abuse Alice because nobody thinks she's truly alive.
    • Alice and Bob are very much in love but become pariahs due to prejudice against their "unnatural union".
