Basic Trope: A boyish boy/manly man with some feminine traits.
- Straight: Bob is The Big Guy who happens to have a hobby of sewing.
- Exaggerated:
- Bob is the strongest badass in an entire work, and has a side business of knitting sweaters all by himself.
- Bob is a Testosterone Poisoning type character personality-wise, but he always wears frilly pink clothes and likes knitting and collecting pony dolls.
- Bob is the deadliest man alive this side of Batman. He has no problem carrying his arsenal in a My Little Pony backpack.
- Downplayed: Bob is just a normal guy and likes to pick up the needles on occasion.
- Justified:
- Bob grew up in a background where sewing is considered a sign of manhood.
- Bob used to get picked on for being In Touch with His Feminine Side despite having more masculine interests than feminine ones. He decides to starting training for fights & exercising in order to become a badass, so that way no one will mess with him & it works.
- Bob lives alone or with people who can't fix clothes, so he has to teach himself to sew.
- "Knitting and sewing keeps my hands nimble so I can wield my sword better. Dancing makes me faster, so I can kill more bad guys."
- Courage and bravery are traditionally considered traits in masculinity and Bob decides to emphasize it by openly doing feminine hobbies without caring about other people's opinions.
- Bob just likes knitting and doesn't feel a need to justify it.
- Bob adopts his girlish hobbies for his daughter.
- Inverted:
- Bob is normally In Touch with His Feminine Side, but has a masculine hobby or two like doing sports or going to the gym.

- ...but once he gets his infuriating old sewing machine fixed it becomes much more fun, and he genuinely enjoys it.
- Bob may not be as tough as he looks, but it turns out the man who taught him to sew is that tough.
- Parodied: Bob is pink and is more of a man than any of the other characters
- Zig Zagged: Bob sews just to make a living, except he actually enjoys sewing, but only when the outfits he sews are for men, but especially likes sewing pink outfits.
- Averted: Bob doesn't have any effeminate hobbies.

- "Why do men always have to have the common stereotypes associated with them? Let's give Bob something to subvert the audience's expectations to make a point."

"Of course it does! All men in fiction have to have some kind of habit that's feminine in some way!" - Implied: Bob usually does manly things, but every now and then he brings up his love of knitting with his guy friends, but he's never seen actually knitting
- Deconstructed: Bob's hobby of sewing made him a target of bullying growing up, so he gained a rough personality to prove his manliness, only to be rejected once again out of fear.
- Reconstructed: Bob decides that it doesn't matter what others think of him, and decides to pursue on with his hobby ignoring those who ridicule him.
- Played For Laughs: After coming home from a huge war, "Manly" Bob puts on a pink sweater, snuggles up with his kitten, and watches My Little Pony.
- Played For Drama: Bob used to be a member of a society where his feminine hobbies are seen as reducing his value as a person.
- Played For Horror: Bob is a copycat of The Joker who wears a pink tuxedo... well, it used to be pink. Now it's got so much blood on it that it looks purple.
