Basic Trope: A character takes offense to being called fat.
- Straight: Bob teases Alice who is overweight. Alice insists that she's "pleasingly plump".
- Exaggerated: Alice is morbidly obese and tells Bob she prefers to be addressed as such for medical reasons.
- Downplayed: Alice is chubby but insists that it's just baby fat.
- Justified:
- Alice is Hollywood Pudgy and is afraid of being teased for putting on weight.
- Alice's size comes from a medical condition and Bob's insults make it sound like she chose to suffer it.
- Inverted: Alice is skinny and tells Bob she's just lacking proportions.
- Subverted: Bob's insults don't work on Alice who is Fat and Proud.
- Double Subverted: ...but when Bob's out of the picture, she tells her friends that she hates Bob's insults.
- Parodied:
- Alice is a cow. Bob taunts her by yelling "Moo!" and is promptly sat on.
- Alice is a skeleton, and really is big boned.
- Zig Zagged: Alice and Bob are overweight. Sometimes they make fun of each other, sometimes they don't.
- Averted: Bob doesn't make fun of Alice's weight, regardless of her size.
- Enforced: The writers want to make overweight people punching bags.
- Lampshaded: "Yeah, Alice, Dumbo was pleasingly plump. You Are Fat."
- Invoked: Alice intentionally gains weight to induce fat jokes.
- Exploited: Claire points out Alice's weight to Bob and tells him how he can set her off.
- Defied: Alice becomes fed up with Bob's jokes and subjects herself to a strict diet and exercise program.
- Discussed: Alice points out that "pleasingly plump" is just like "fat", but less insulting.
- Conversed: Alice points out that a lot of people don't like being called "fat" because people get really insulting about it, and she prefers to be called something less offensive.
