Basic Trope: A character watches a home movie or has a Dream Sequence about times they had with someone who is now gone, or has died.
- Straight: Alice and Bob break up. As she tucks into a pint of Ken and Sherry's ice cream, Alice has a Flashback to all the good times she had with Bob.
- Exaggerated: Alice and Bob had been an Official Couple for all of two weeks. But the montage makes it look like they'd been together for years.
- Downplayed: Alice looks at an old picture on the wall from that vacation she took with Bob a year ago for a few moments.
- Justified: Alice misses Bob.
- Inverted: Alice remembers only the bad times she had with Bob, and wonders what she ever saw in him. A Breakup Bonfire may or may not be involved.
- Subverted: Alice remembers the good times she had with Bob, but then remembers some of his more Jerkass moments.
- Double Subverted: The good times still make her wistful, and she contemplates maybe getting back together with him.
- Parodied:
- Alice starts getting wistful...when Bob just went to the bathroom.
- The montage is a sex tape.
- Zig Zagged: ???
- Averted: Both Alice and Bob are alive and well, and they're still together.
- Enforced:
- "We need to show how heartbroken Alice is."
- "We need to show what not having a (functional) smoke detector can do." *
- Lampshaded: ???
- Invoked: Bob has been with Alice for five years, and dumps her out of the blue.
- Exploited: ???
- Defied: Alice doesn't dwell on Bob. Instead, she hits the gym, gets her hair done, buys new clothes, and goes to meet new guys.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
- Played For Drama: Bob is drunk, And the flashback gets distorted in increasingly bizarre ways.
