Playing With / Edit War

Basic Trope: A fight between two or more wiki editors, where one troper will initiate a change, another will restore and/or override it, and so on...
  • Straight: Two tropers can't agree on whether or not a specific trope example applies, and start changes back and forth.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Factions of tropers can't agree on whether or not a specific trope example applies, and start a holy war of edit carnage.
    • One of the people involved in the Edit War is an admin, who promptly has the entire article Zapped after somebody posts something s/he does not agree with.
  • Downplayed: Two tropers can't agree on the spelling of a name, but otherwise leave an example alone.
  • Justified:
    • The information is off enough to be counted as wrong, but the deleting troper in question forgot what the actual correct information was. He is only removing until that editor goes away or somebody who knows the detail sees the page.
    • The poster of the information is correct, but the editor only saw another part of the wiki with wrong information relating to the current item. The poster hopes that somebody who knew the source would come along and validate the correct information.
    • One of the tropers is a Troll or Sock Puppet.
    • The trope example is genuinely ambiguous in the text, and depending on which of the team of creators you listen to, may or may not fit.
  • Inverted: The original troper thanks the second troper for correcting them, or for cutting unnecessary parts of the page out.
  • Subverted: Instead of restoring over the original change, the second troper takes the issue to the Discussion thread and works to create a better example.
  • Doubly Subverted: The troper only takes the issue to the Discussion thread so they can start a Flame War as they continue the Edit War.
  • Parodied:
    • Two tropers start a mock Edit/Flame War For the Evulz.
    • Two tropers have a minor fight on whether the word "center" in a certain quote should be spelled as "centre" or not. An admin comes by, but instead of simply breaking up the fight, he offers his own opinion on the matter and gets involved in the fight as well. It eventually breaks out into an all-out war between the wiki, and results in every last staff member dying a brutal death.
    • Trope is used at all in any fictional work.
  • Zig Zagged: Two tropers are arguing, but they decide it isn't worth it. But then another troper comes in, re-sparking the war. But then the tropers are forced to leave their mother's basements and get jobs, so they can't edit anymore.
  • Averted:
    • The original troper is careful to research and confirm their example and avoids any conflicts
    • The page is locked.
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded: "Oh crap. We all know where this is going..."
  • Invoked: The second troper must have/has a personal vendetta against the first.
  • Exploited: A troper edits a page in a way that will cause their Arch-Nemesis to react strongly so that they are banned.
  • Defied: The first troper calls out the second troper as a troll on the Discussion Page and gets a moderator, rather than escalate the war.
  • Discussed:
Moderator: "Please do not start an Edit War."
  • Conversed: "What? Someone edited a page on my watch list?! It's my Arch Nemesis?! Nooooooooooooooo!!!"
  • Deconstructed: The Edit War reaches epic levels and causes moderators to lock the page.
  • Reconstructed: This causes the tropers involved to realize the value of politeness and notability.

Back to Edit War.
  • THIS IS WRONG! It should be 'Back to the Main Version HERE!
