Basic Trope: An overweight character is fun, lovable, and funny.

  • Straight: Gus, who's quite a bit overweight, is likable and fun.
  • Exaggerated: Gus weighs upwards of 600 pounds and throws such great parties that people come from miles around.
  • Downplayed: Gus is chubby, but is friendly and easy to get along with.
  • Justified: Gus has always been fun and lovable, and gained that weight from eating all that party food.
  • Inverted:
  • Gender Inverted: Gertrude is a fat jolly woman.
  • Subverted: Gus initially appears friendly and fun, but it turns out it's just a ruse and he's a Fat Bastard...
  • Double Subverted: ...which turns out to be another one of Gus's party pranks.
  • Parodied: Gus is so large he can't fit through any normal door. He's also thrown parties so remarkable even a Big Bad or two stopped by just to have some fun at them than with them.
  • Zig Zagged:
    • Gus sometimes throws great parties and sometimes throws really crappy ones.
    • Sometimes Hank throws the good parties, sometimes Gus, and sometimes they throw them together.
  • Averted: Gus is neither particularly overweight nor particularly fun or lovable.
  • Enforced:
    • "Everyone knows the fat guy is the fun guy! Make him a party animal!"
    • Gus is made into Those Two Guys with Hank, so he's made a party animal to show why the pair of them get on so well together.
  • Lampshaded: "Are all fat guys this fun to be around?"
  • Invoked: Gus, tired of getting picked on about his weight, decides to throw an awesome party so people will see him better, and it works.
  • Exploited: The Big Bad gets Gus to throw a party. While everyone's at his party, he sets his plan into action
  • Defied: "Just because I'm big doesn't mean I have to throw parties all the time!"
  • Discussed: "Gus' the guy that simply likes to help, loves to party, and crack jokes in good spirits."
  • Conversed:
"Wow! I've never met someone so full of weight and having all of the charm!!"
  • Deconstructed: Gus's fun-loving exterior masks his crippling insecurity. Whether it's because of his weight or simply fear that other people won't like him, he projects such an image to distract people from his doubts.
  • Reconstructed: Despite his insecurity, Gus comes to realize that his many friends like him the way he is. He eventually learns to feel comfortable in his own skin.
  • Played For Laughs: Gus is also the Fat Comic Relief.
