Basic Trope: A character regularly sleeps somewhere that isn't a bed, by choice.

  • Straight: Alice has a bed, but she tends to sleep in the bathtub instead.
  • Exaggerated: Beds exist, but nobody uses them.
  • Downplayed:
    • Alice sleeps in a sleeping bag on the floor.
    • Alice sleeps in a hammock.
    • Alice usually sleeps in bed, but sleeps in the bathtub when she's feeling adventurous.
    • Alice sleeps in a chair when her back acts up but prefers a bed otherwise.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted:
    • Animals like cows and sheep sleep in beds.
    • Alice uses her bed for all kinds of unusual purposes.
  • Subverted: Alice is seen sleeping in the bathtub but it turns out that she just has visitors and there's nowhere else for her to sleep.
  • Double Subverted: Ordinarily, she'd sleep on the couch.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zigzagged: Alice fluctuates between sleeping in bed, in the bathtub, on the couch, in a hammock, in a box, on the ground outside, and in a chair.
  • Averted:
  • Enforced: The writers added this to make Alice more interesting.
  • Lampshaded: "Why do you even have a bed, Alice?"
  • Invoked: Alice decides to try sleeping in the bathtub to see what it's like.
  • Exploited: There Is Only One Bed, but that's not a problem because Bob can take the bed while Alice takes the tub.
  • Defied: "No way I'm ever sleeping anywhere other than a bed."
  • Discussed: "I went to use the bathroom at Alice's house and she was sleeping in the tub!"
  • Conversed: "What's that show where the lady sleeps in the tub?"
  • Implied: A blanket and pillow are seen in Alice's bathtub.
  • Deconstructed: One morning, Alice wakes up to Bob using the toilet, embarrassing them both.
  • Reconstructed: She remembers to hang a "Do not disturb" sign on the bathroom door.
  • Played for Laughs: At bedtime, Alice says that she needs to "hit the bathtub".
