Basic Trope: Between adaptations a character’s powers are altered or changed entirely.

  • Straight:
    • When changing from the comics to the big screen, SuperBob’s mastery over the wind becomes outright telekinesis.
    • SuperBob’s power changes from psychically controlling wind to physically blowing people away with wind with his Super-Breath.
  • Exaggerated: SuperBob’s Super-Breath becomes complete Weather Manipulation in the movie version of his comic book.
  • Downplayed: SuperBob’s Super-Breath in the comics becomes Vacuum Mouth in the TV series.
  • Justified: Comic book SuperBob was a Legacy Character made up several different people, each with their own wind-related superpower (Razor Wind, Super-Breath, Flight). SuperBob from the movie (which is an Adaptation Distillation) is a Composite Character of all those incarnations, having all their powers combined into a general wind manipulation superpower.
  • Inverted: SuperBob always has the same wind manipulation powers in all adaptations (live-action film, videogames, cartoons), except in the original comic book adaptation, where his powers keep changing every weekly issue.
  • Subverted: At first it seems that MegaAlice’s Super-Speed from the comics was going to be teleportation in the movie, but she was just using Flash Steps.
  • Double Subverted: Halfway through the movie her powers evolve into true teleportation.
  • Parodied: Movie SuperBob waves his arms around trying to manipulate wind, but nothing happens and he only ends up making a fool of himself in front of some criminals, then he suddenly remembers that in this continuity his wind powers come from his Super-Breath now.
  • Zig Zagged: Movie SuperBob has wind manipulation powers just like in the comics, but certain scenes make them look more like Psychic Powers, with no apparent wind being manipulated despite several scenes before and after showing wind special effects being used.
  • Averted: SuperBob has the same abilities throughout all adaptations.
  • Enforced:
    • It would’ve been too expensive on ‘’SuperBob: The TV Series’’ to show Bob flying all the times, so he is instead given the power to teleport.
    • The people behind the adaptation gave SuperBob more powers than he did in the source material or gave him a different power set because they felt it would be cooler that way.
  • Lampshaded: "So the version of me in this reality has different powers? I feel like there's a world where I'm a fictional character and whoever created this version of me found my normal powers lacking."
  • Invoked: SuperBob has his powers changed after learning there are realities where his powers are different.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: SuperBob forces the people behind the adaptation to keep his powers as they were in the source material.
  • Discussed: "Say, SuperBob, do you think in that movie they're making about you they might give you different powers for the sake of artistic license?"
  • Conversed: "I can't believe the movie replaced SuperBob's power set! His abilities in the source material were way cooler!"
  • Implied: SuperBob doesn't appear on-screen, but is described as having done things he couldn't have done if he still had the same powers he did in the source material.
