Nice Guy / Web Original

Go To

  • AoHaru Manga Library: A constant trait of Keiichi in all his roles is that he's an overly nice and kind guy who looks like a Bully Magnet and doesn't like to stand out, thus being expected to 'finish last'. Karma always proves that expectation wrong.
  • The Autobiography of Jane Eyre: Played With a lot with people Jane encounters when she starts her new job.
    • Grace Poole is a Composite Character, combining mild and kind Mrs Fairfax and scary, mysterious Grace Poole from the book. She's very intense and weird during her first appearance. Later she has moments when she's genuinely nice to Jane and very caring. Other times she seems nervous, impatient or downright nasty.
    • Jane expected Mr Rochester, her employer, to be horrible, based on Grace's vague description and Adele's nightmarish drawings of him. She finds out he's not abusive, which she thought he would be, but he's teasing, weird and bossy. In episode 13, Jane says that he seems a nice enough man, though a little negative, moody, sharp, dismissive,... but in a good way. There are obviously things which haunt him.
  • Deckard in Bee and Puppycat makes Bee a casserole after hearing she lost her job. He even leaves it for Bee after she accidentally Groin Attacks him with her umbrella.
  • It was her core attribute in The Karate Kid; late in the third season of Cobra Kai, this was the key to ending the long-standing rivalry between Johnny and Daniel. Where absolutely everyone else had failed, someone that had a rapport with both of them had pulled it off in seconds. In her default pleasant and diplomatic demeanor, she pointed out how they weren't so different. She succeeded in one moment where Deadpan Snarker Amanda and Overprotective Mom Carmen (hell, absolutely everyone else in the Valley) had failed miserably after two seasons: to get the "man boys" to stop clashing, once and for all. That, in a nutshell, is Alli Mills.
  • The Cry of Mann:
    • Berry is far and away the nicest member of the Mann family, until her work in keeping the family together becomes too much for her; she's even polite to her callers, who she often asks if she can help, and tells one caller that claims to work for Courtney:
I'd like to confront you face to face! ...And of course offer you cheese cubes...I'm not rude...
    • Glintz-Terry may have his dumb, impulsive moments, but he's a good person who cares about everyone else- including Ashes and Mabel, who get generally mistreated by other characters. Even when they're on trial, and he believes they've tried to kill his friend, he still shows concern for their well-being and comfort.
    • Durkin is a sweet, compassionate person, who wishes for his troop to get along and work together like they used to, rather than the arguing they'd devolved to. He happily shares his emotions with the girls and becomes upset when Prince and Glintz-Terry ruin it, but even in his bad mood, he's still willing to help Vid. Even Prince, who was a jerk to him, still repeatedly refers to him as "sweet".
  • Tacoma from Demo Reel is an always-willing confidant and Living Emotional Crutch for Rebecca and Donnie. And speaking of those two, while they have plenty more issues, they're sweethearts as well when you get to know them better.
  • Doug Walker's niceness was lampshaded and parodied in his cameo for Phelous's review of House of Wax (2005). While the rest of the site cheered for Paris Hilton's character's death, he's disgusted by their behaviour even though she's fictional. Out of universe, even abused former members of the website say he's nice, just too weird and passive.
  • Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog:
    • Penny is extremely sweet-natured, a good friend to Billy, vegetarian, and volunteers to help the homeless.
    • Billy is also on the surface a nice guy, but he becomes more of a Dogged Nice Guy around her, and arguably he has some ideas that maybe aren't so nice.
  • Dreamscape:
    • Ahjeen is SO MUCH! He is a really nice and friendly dude, and he can quickly make friends with just about anyone.
    • Dylan cares deeply for his friends and the people he trusts.
  • DSBT InsaniT: Koden cares a lot about his friends, and just wants everyone to be safe and have a good time.
    • Amber is gentle and caring, especially when it comes to Koden.
    • Whitney is level-headed, patient, and understanding. Shes also the one person to reach out to Dave and try to be his friend.
    • Asia is arguably the nicest character in the series, unless it involves Lisa. She is extremely polite and soft-spoken.
    • Autmn tries to see the good in anyone, even Lisa and Dave.
  • Echo Rose: Despite her rough and stubborn exterior, Echo is genuinely kind. She wants nothing more than to help others, even expressing deep sympathy and concern for ghosts and animals.
  • Escape the Night: Oli stands out amongst the original cast for never going behind anyone’s back or holding the Jerkass Ball. He’s also never targeted by others because of this.
    • Rosanna is The Cutie and is adored by everyone. She is the only character not to bully Teala(even comforting her from time to time) and cries at the thought of voting someone into a challenge where they’ll potentially die.
  • Personified with the "Good Guy Greg" Image Macro, who is the "nice guy" counterpart to Scumbag Steve.
  • Felicia Day plays Codex on The Guild, who is a Deconstruction of this trope. While she's generally very tolerant and patient with the rest of the group and serves as The Heart, the constant pressures of being the White Magician Girl (in-game and out) have fed into her crippling neurosis.
  • Flippy from Happy Tree Friends is social, polite, and always happy to help out. The blurb video for "Without A Hitch" outright calls him a nice guy. A shame he also has a poisonous cocktail of mental illnesses that turns him into a sadistic murder machine whenever something reminds him of the war.
    • The Tree Friends are generally this, especially Lumpy, Pop, Mime, The Mole, Cub, Giggles, Petunia, Lammy, Flaky and Russell.
  • The Happy Video Game Nerd: The character is much nicer than the Angry Video Game Nerd. He's calm and polite. He's both this on his show and in real life.
  • The Human Pet: In the personal vlogs, Eric comes off as one of these, being a kind, if irresponsible, young man who cared deeply for his lover Sue even when things took a turn for the worst.
  • The Knights of Fandom are effectively meant to be an entire organization of Nice Guys/Girls.
  • Kontrola: Majka is usually friendly and kind to other people in all situations. There's only a couple times when she acts otherwise.
  • Minilife TV:
    • Snowball is a curious vampire who wants to learn more about people and cares about his friends.
    • Jack is very friendly and he very rarely gets upset (if at all).
    • Though she can't remember much about her past, Emery Rose tries to be polite, even if she does have some Beware the Nice Ones moments.
  • While most of the characters in Murder Drones are either jerks, cowards or morally ambiguous, these two are the notable exceptions:
    • N, while a Dissassembly Drone, is extremely polite and doesn't hold a grudge against anyone, even those who mistreat him. After coming to see the mistakes in his actions and doing a Heel–Face Turn, N starts protecting Worker Drones from both his former allies and other threats, at one point deciding to stay by himself in the Dissassembly Drones' landing pod because he believes he and V were too dangerous to be around Worker Drones and wanted to make sure V didn't hurt anyone.
    • Thad is a Lovable Jock and the only person who was kind towards Uzi prior to her meeting N. He apologizes to Uzi for unintentionaly calling her emotionally repressed, gives her back her rail gun after she abandoned the colony, and most notably, tries to fight against V and J to protect the other Worker Drones, although with little success.
  • Pretending to Be People, surprisingly, has a few.
    • Drew Andrews almost never fails to be friendly and helpful.
    • Peter Deter, the miniature fish man, is nearly-comically innocent and personable.
  • While most Red vs. Blue characters are some level of Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist, there are still a few Nice Guys.
    • Donut on the Red Team is so perky, friendly, and sweet that even Church (who otherwise hates everyone) likes him. He's essentially the closest thing RvB has to The Cutie.
    • Lopez may be snarky and condescending to the other members of the BGC, but it's only because they're idiotic Jerkasses who treat him with little respect. However, when around people who are semi-competent and at-least professional with him, he proves himself to be very easy-going and polite. Heck, even with everything they put him through, he still tries to be friendly with the other members of the crew on many instances.
    • Caboose seems to be vaguely aware that half the people he knows are supposed to be his enemies, but that doesn't mean they can't be his friends.
    • Sheila is remarkably personable and helpful for literally being a tank, and is a Cute Machine.
    • Captain Flowers, the original Blue Team leader, is unbelievably kind towards the men under his command and even towards the enemy team. It's likely because he's a Freelancer and he knows the Red/Blue war isn't real.
    • The Freelancers have their own sort of trio of Nice Guys in the form of Agents New York, North Dakota, and Washington. York is incredibly snarky, but has a strong sense of fair play and right and wrong and his snark is usually intended as good-natured. Wash is the dorkiest one, worried about following the rules and everyone getting along. Lastly, North is the Team Mom, so nurturing and caring that he was specifically given the most child-like of the A.I.s as a result.
      • Wash is very interesting and complicated case. The Freelancer Saga is a prequel series, so it's a Foregone Conclusion the betrayal of his teammates and his experience with the Epsilon Unit breaks him and turns him into the no-nonsense Straight Man he is when he's inroduced. Then he takes a level in jerkass and shoots Donut and Lopez, establishing himself as a villain. Then, after he gets betrayed yet again... the Blues let him into their ranks no questions asked. From this point on, he grows into a protective and supportive Team Dad for the Blood Gulch Crew.
      • CT, another Freelancer is very cynical and justifiably resents her superiors, but otherwise, she's a sweet and friendly woman and the closest thing the Freelancers have to The Cutie. Becomes heartbreaking when she turns out to be The Mole.
    • Finally there's Doc, who comes off as almost a parody of a Nice Guy. He's an Actual Pacifist and has an exaggerated Granola Boy and Soapbox Sadie personality, but he's also snarky in a biting way and sometimes shows an extremely morbid and almost Nightmare Fetishist sense of humor. It gets worse as the series goes on, as he becomes a textbook example of an Extreme Doormat. This bad for him because he's he's The Friend Nobody Likes and when he's teleported away in Volume 11, nobody notices. When he does come back and realizes that no one was looking for him, he snaps and develops the O'Malley personality entirely of his own accord.
    • Felix, despite being a war veteran and a mercenary, looks, acts, and sounds like a kid who just met his idols whenever he's around the Blood Gulch Crew. He saves them on multiple occasions, lectures them on the basics of the planet's civil war, and then calls in La Résistance to save them. However, in Season 12, he becomes a harsh, sarcastic, cynical asshole who puts the team through Training from Hell and reveals he has very little attachment to the Resistance and is Only in It for the Money. Then, Episode 10 rolls around, and the real Felix comes out. He's The Mole and a sociopathic, petty, childish, sadistic mass-murderer who's always hated the heroes.
  • RWBY:
    • Pyrrha Nikos comes from a background where she was constantly surrounded by love and praise, while also being blessed with incredible natural combat talent and an extremely powerful Semblance. She has been a legend in her own lifetime from an early age. Despite having lived her life on a pedestal and being alienated because people think she's out of their league, she is an incredibly positive, optimistic and friendly person who tries to see the best in everyone. She objects to bullies and bears no ill-will towards Faunus. She doesn't hold people's flaws against them, such as Jaune rudely shoving her out of the way to take to Weiss or initially rejecting her offer to train him for 'macho' reasons. When confronted by Cardin's Faunus racism in the classroom, she doesn't sink to his level even when he baits her; she simply 'retaliates' by providing the teacher with the answer to the question Cardin couldn't answer. During their school initiation, she sacrifices her weapon to ensure Jaune lands safely and becomes his mentor, teaching him about Aura and combat. Despite her feelings for Jaune, she gives him sincere advice on how to get Weiss. She's so selfless that she sacrifices her own desires for the sake of others; when Ozpin's Benevolent Conspiracy ask her to help them save the world, she agrees so fast that Ozpin has to force her to take the time to seriously think about the burden of his offer. She still agrees to help, even though it could forever separate her from the friends she has made.
    • Oscar Pine is regarded by both the heroes and protagonists as a "farm boy" who has come from a relatively simple background; he lived with his aunt, with whom he is implied to have had a comfortable relationship filled with banter. Although forced into a very difficult situation since being paired with Ozpin, Oscar remains a genuinely kind boy who is nice, if a little shy, towards everyone, something his companions find amusing and endearing. Even after the full truth of Ozpin's secrets come out and Qrow and Jaune physically lash out at him, Oscar doesn't hold any grudge and instead resolves to help Teams RWBY and JNR out as long as he's still him. In Atlas, Ironwood confides in him a lot of the pressure he feels and his personal beliefs on what needs to be done to stop Salem. Oscar in turn gently advises him to retain his humanity and open up to potential allies. He even confronts Ironwood one last time in the Vault - not to fight, but to convince him that they're on the same side. This only fails because the general is too far gone. Even though Ironwood attempts to kill him and leave him for dead, forcing Ozpin to return from his Heroic BSoD, Oscar doesn't fixate on Ironwood's betrayal; all he wants to do is save Atlas and, instead of holding Ozpin's flaws against him, he simply asks Ozpin to help him come up with a plan to do so.
    • Velvet Scarlatina has a gentle and kind-hearted demeanour that she doesn't allow to be diminished in a world where her kind are subjected to Fantastic Racism. When Yang is framed by Emerald and Mercury into seemingly breaking his leg in the Tournament, Velvet is one of the few people besides Yang's teammates who is convinced Yang's actions were not malicious, chalking the incident up to a stress-induced hallucination. Velvet even patiently endures Cardin Winchester painfully tying one of her rabbit ears into a knot, explaining to Blake that she thinks violence is not the solution to resolving strained Human-Faunus relations and she hopes that if she continues to treat humans like him with kindness and respect then they will learn to treat her the same way. Being The Heart of Team CFVY even applies to her emblem, which is a heart.
  • Some human/sentient SCP items at the SCP Foundation are surprisingly polite and friendly, such SCP-073, SCP-208 and SCP-105.
    • Especially surprising for 073, as he is quite possibly the first murderer (Fridge Brilliance: he was filled with remorse after killing his brother and turned over a new leaf; Able is an extremely deadly Psycho for Hire, probably filled with bitterness and rage over being killed the first time. Able despises Cain and attacks him on sight.)
    • SCP-999 despite being a Blob Monster maybe the nicest creature the foundation has, it loves all living creatures and just wants to hug and tickle people.
    • Most of the child SCP items, such as SCP-053, SCP-239 and SCP-040, are genuinely nice kids, probably because Children Are Innocent.
    • SCP-423, the Self-Inserting Character, is one of the most notably friendly sorts in the Foundation. Despite having the power to enter narratives and rewrite them to feature him as a character, he pretty much never falls into Her Code Name Was "Mary Sue", only wanting to experience the events of the story, and whenever he displays any kind of morals, he shows himself to be clearly moral and friendly.
  • SMPLive: Altrive is one of the few server members that could be considered a pacifist, since he set his hit price absurdly highnote , and he's generally friendly towards everyone.
  • Steve 1989 MRE Info: Unlike the typical Caustic Critic, Steve is cheerful as a chipmunk and maintains a positive attitude even while eating expired and years rotten military rations.
  • Viner Thomas Sanders is very amiable and tries to maintain an overall sense of fun and lightheartedness with his Vines and YouTube videos, in stark contrast to a great many other Viners whose content is much less family-friendly.
  • In Twelve Hundred Ghosts, despite his meager job and how Scrooge mistreats him, Bob Cratchit still gives him Nyquil to help with his cold.
  • Alador from Wolf Song: The Movie is a friendly wolf who is pretty easygoing (he used to be a dog, until his initiation, well, a first gen wolfdog before becoming a proper wolf) and he does step up to help his packmates and his actions even prompt an enemy to defect over to the side of his pack where Alador manages to settle things peacefully and for an animated film about colourful wolves trying to go about their business, he somehow has some rather profound quotes of his own. that being said, he isn’t exactly the pure of heart, that being his sister, but with the qualities listed above, who would blame you for thinking that he is. as a result of these, he is pretty much the fan favourite of the entire cast
  • YouTube personality Rachel Oates always comes across as kindly and polite in her videos.
