Starting out as frontman for his high school band Music/MrBungle, Michael Allan Patton (born January 27, 1968) was catapulted to fame with his signing by Music/FaithNoMore as their new singer. Since then he become insanely prolific; fronting numerous increasingly eclectic bands, as well as collaborating with a huge number of other artists (such as Music/TheDillingerEscapePlan, [[Music/SystemOfADown Serj Tankian]], Music/MassiveAttack, The Qemists and Music/{{Bjork}} of all people).

In 2007 he started working on various projects in voice acting, [[PigeonholedVoiceActor mainly as crazy-ass demented characters]], such as the eponymous Darkness in ''VideoGame/TheDarkness'', the Anger Sphere in ''VideoGame/{{Portal}}'', zombies in ''VideoGame/Left4Dead'' and creatures in ''Film/IAmLegend''. From this you probably think that he exclusively does insane gabbling in weird voices, and you'd be right... if he hadn't also voiced the main character in ''VideoGame/BionicCommando''. Also provides the LemonyNarrator of ''Film/{{Bunraku}}''.

!!Tropes associated with Mike Patton

* CarefulWithThatAxe: If you're familiar with Mike Patton, you probably don't need this explained to you; at least half of his discography has him screeching out ear piercing screams.
** His numerous collaborations with [[Music/JohnZorn John Zorn]] are almost exclusively comprised of screaming
* CloudCuckoolander
* CoverAlbum: ''Mondo Cane'', which features covers of mid-century Italian pop.
* DeadpanSnarker
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: If [[http://killthemic.blogspot.com/2008/01/am-i-only-one-who-finds-mike-patton.html this]] is any indication.
* GameBreakingInjury: Averted. During his third performance with Faith No More, he accidentally cut himself on a broken bottle, which severed the tendons and nerves in his right hand. While he can still use it, that hand is now permanently numb. (Strangely, this is the ''exact opposite'' of what his doctors expected to happen: they expected him to regain feeling in the hand but be unable to use it.)
* GenreRoulette: His various projects cover a number of styles, including AlternativeRock, Pop, HeavyMetal, HipHop, Funk, Jazz, Trip Hop and Experimental Music.
* InsufferableGenius: Notoriously arrogant and standoffish in person.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: Very much so in his [[http://www.last.fm/music/Mike+Patton/+images/34323425 younger days]].
* ManOfAThousandVoices: He has a '''six-octave vocal range''', making him [[http://www.vintagevinylnews.com/2014/05/digging-deeper-axl-rose-is-not-singer.html by far the singer with the widest range on record]]. (For the record, the second singer on the list, [[Music/{{Slipknot}} Corey]] [[Music/StoneSour Taylor]], was three whole notes behind him). The artist who comes the closest to Patton's singing versatility is Music/{{Kyo}}, the singer of Music/DirEnGrey, who is regarded as the ''Japanese Mike Patton''.
* RapRock[=/=]RapMetal: Early pioneer of this.
* SexDrugsAndRockAndRoll: Averted. He's been known to be very critical of the infamous rock star lifestyle, and the only "drug" he's ever been on is caffeine.
