Manga / Kiriwo Terrible

Go To

Mikagura, a city in Japan, is constantly under attack by Kaiju, and the JSDF has had very little success when dealing with them. Using his father's research, a wealthy teenager named Kiriwo develops a serum that can temporarily transform him into a giant monster strong enough to fend off the attacking monsters. In his first outing as the "Black Monster" he manages to defeat the attacking Kaiju in a matter of minutes. The next day he returns to school to find out that everyone is blaming the Black Monster for the collateral damage sustained in the fight.

Despite the anger directed at him, Kiriwo continues to fight and defend the city. Now he must defend the city while taking greater care to avoid damaging the surrounding area, all while hiding his secret identity from government agencies that would stop at nothing to harness the Black Monster's power, and from a classmate who now works as a maid at his mansion because the cafe her family worked at was destroyed when he crushed it during his first fight.

This work contains examples of:

  • Abusive Parents: Kiriwo's dad was not above using his children in his experiments.
  • Action Girl: The taskforce dedicated to capturing the Black Monster has one.
  • Battle Butler: Kriwo's main ally is a longtime butler to his family, who is also an expert sharp shooter and helicopter pilot.
  • Big Brother Instinct: The main reason Kiriwo won't leave fighting off the Kaiju to the government isn't just that they don't have enough firepower to do so, but also because his sister took his place as test subject for the transformation serum since Kiriwo was justifiably terrified of what it would do to him, and it backfired horribly. Now she's stuck in monster form and he has to use samples taken from the various monsters he defeats in order to reverse the transformation. As of chapter eighteen, she's regained her sentience and capacity to speak, but is still a giant monster and can sometimes become violent.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: People don't seem to care about how the Black Monster's primary goal is fighting off the monsters that just show up and wreak havoc indiscriminately.
  • I Want Them Alive!: After the government realizes that the Black Monster is a human, they make his capture their main goal.
  • Secret Identity: Kiriwo naturally needs to hide his double life.
