Ongoing cleanup. Cutting, as there's no mention of an explicit oath.

* BloodBrothers: The Kurodas are very dutiful to each other.

** All of the Kurodas count, being BloodBrothers and such, but this is especially the case for Tetsu and Minoru. You rarely see one without the other, being almost like real brothers since they were "adopted" by the Kurodas at the same time.

* RedundantRomanceAttempt: When Minoru starts dating a girl, Kumiko fires him so that he can have a normal, respectable life with his girlfriend... who immediately dumps him. She only liked him because he was yakuza.

Trope was cut/disambiguated due to cleanup

* HeroesWantRedheads: Even though Kumiko only realized her feelings for Shin after he was very, very overt about his feelings for her.

Bishonen is a Definition-Only fan-speak term used only for Japanese/East-Asian media. No examples allowed. Per TRS. Moving In Universe acknowledgements/relevance to Pretty Boy. Removing any ZCE.

* Bishounen: Oddly few, considering this is a josei manga. While Shin and Shinohara are the straightest examples, and then there's Inuzuka (when he is being confident, because when he isn't, Gonk well...).

Overprotective Dad has been disambiguated

* BoyfriendBlockingDad: The Kurodas (especially Kyo) take seriously their way to protect Kumiko. Kyo (and Tetsu & Minoru included) kept scaring off our heroine's boyfriends when she was younger.

Irrelevant

Gokusen is fairly similar to Manga/GreatTeacherOnizuka in premise -- become trustworthy to the delinquents and teach them lessons through "ToughLove". However, Kumiko is properly educated and her secret background plays a large part in the series -- for example, her students think she is in debt to yakuza because of one of her poor cover-up excuses, and she brings in a rather conspicuously shady fellow when she suddenly needs to tutor her students in boxing.

Shin is a ZCE/

* CallBack: When the son of a yakuza boss comes to the school as a student, the brat uses his father's men to beat up any who anger him. Kumiko contacts that boss and he is the son of the man who once took Kumiko's grandfather's finger for some debt. The boss recognizes Kumiko as the kid who went into that meeting to save her grandfather's finger by attempting to cut off her own finger.

* DeadpanSnarker: Shin, often.
** As Kyo is leaving prison after his three-year sentence, he tells the guards, "Thanks for having me, fellas."
* Determinator: The Kurodas, especially Kumiko and Kyo-san, going along with their OneManArmy characteristics.

* DidntSeeThatComing: The Chairman of the school wanted Kumiko gone. When he learns her true heritage, he contacts the head of the Alumni association and the head of the Parents' group for the school. [[spoiler:Turns out the alumni met her when she dressed as a guy to make sure whatever tests he was putting her students through for a job application, they were safe, and so he respected her for that. And the parent called in is the boss of a friend of Kumiko's family and she helped his son become less of a jerkass, and so is thankful to her. Though they didn't know the whole truth about her situation until the Chairman told them, they believe the Chairman is on their side and they all sign a pledge to not speak a word of this to anyone. ** Surprisingly, a few younger students from Shirokin take a liking on Shin, but keep quiet abput it. Then, there's (who acts creepily around him), and the spirit of a samurai who also finds him attractive.

Added DiffLines:

* Fingore: One side story reveals when Kumiko was a child, she played in this rooom and hid when her grandfather and yakuza from another clan come in to talk business. Kumiko sees her grandfather about to cut off one of his fingers to atone for something their clan did. Not wanting to see her grandfather hurt, she breaks into the meeting and says she will cut off her own finger. This panics both adults, but Kumiko believes that as an old man, her grandfather won't regrow his finger. She's a child so she will. It's only when her grandfather tells her she won't either does she start to panic. Thankfully this display of courage and innocence did assuage the debt in the other man's eyes.

Added DiffLines:

* StrongerThanTheyLook: Kumiko's Yakuza. At best there is only about a dozen members where many others seen have large groups. However each member is a OneManArmy and the leader, her grandfather, can call for every other Yakuza family for assistance. When Kudo mentions kidnapping Kumiko, thinking they could just hold her hostage and get them to do whatever they want. The leader of the Nekomata absolutely loses it in sheer terror, knowing that the best outcome once they come for him is making it out alive.
