''Cage of Eden'' (original title エデンの檻, ''Eden no Ori'') is a {{Manga}} by Yoshinobu Yamada which can be summarized as "''Series/{{Lost}}'', [[RecycledInSPACE but as a manga]]."

A class of Japanese high schoolers are on their way back from a trip to Guam when the plane hits a freak turbulence and crash-lands on an unknown island. The place turns out to have an ecosystem stuck some 50 million years in the past, with all manner of dangerous megafauna.

Class clown Akira, who had initially found himself isolated, manages to gather a small group of survivors--a flight attendant, his childhood friend, a reclusive geek, and a friendly delinquent. Together they try to survive in the hostile environment.

However, the most dangerous creatures on the island may turn out to be of the bipedal kind...

There is now a [[Characters/CageOfEden Character Sheet]] that could use some love.

The manga has now ended with 185 chapters, something that was announced on [[http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-12-21/cage-of-eden-manga-to-end-in-japan-in-3-more-chapters December 21st 2012]].

!!Contains examples of:

* TheAce: Yarai. He's not completely perfect, though, thanks to poor leadership skills and a complete inability to take anyone else's orders...both of which traits, coincidentally, also prevent him from hogging too much of the limelight.
* AChildShallLeadThem: A group of adult survivors is under the leadership of a 10-year-old girl. [[spoiler: Who's, uh, [[WholesomeCrossdresser not actually]] [[UnsettlingGenderReveal a girl]]...]]
* ActionGirl: Miyauchi and Tokiwa are the most obvious examples. The other girls aren't quite at their level, but they hold themselves pretty well for people without formal training.
* AdultsAreUseless: The vast majority of the adults in this manga are incredibly ineffectual, not helped by most of the male adults being a bunch of perverts. The only exceptions are Oomori and Kokonoe, the former having useful first aid skills, and the latter having made a few good explosives.
* AllMenArePerverts: The vast majority of the male adults are creepy perverts. The school boys are perverts too but the adults are far more likely to [[AttemptedRape take it too far]]. The age difference between luster and lusted-after often doesn't help in the creepiness stakes.
* AltumVidetur: [[spoiler:"Isurugi Miina, Requiescat In Pace" (Rest In Peace). Anyone who has played the [[Franchise/AssassinsCreed Assassin's Creed]] series will see this straightaway.]]
* AlternateTimeline: [[spoiler: While it had been heavily implied that they were actually in [[BadFuture the future]], Chapter 166 provides the biggest proof of this so far in the series, when Segawa notices the real Miina's drawings of one of the creatures, and realizes she's holding an old and weathered version of it that she had found somewhere else in the island. In Chapter 169, Rei realizes that one of the cars in the final tower is a Yotsubishi, but can't recognize the specific car. Chapter 182 confirms it]].
* AnachronismStew: It's noted early on that the extinct animals encountered are from too far apart in the fossil record both chronologically and geographically (the very first chapter has fauna both from 57 million years ago and from 2 million years ago; by volume 5 there's been everything from recently-extinct birds to Triassic-era mammalian reptiles and amphibians [[spoiler:except dinosaurs]]) to make sense on its own. This is something that gets discussed in-universe as well, when trying to figure out the nature of the island. Justified. As of recently it is discovered [[spoiler:that all of the extinct animals were actually genetically engineered by humans of various nationalities.]]
* AndTheAdventureContinues: The manga ends [[spoiler:with them sailing off to whatever's left of Japan]].
* AnimalEaredHeadband: Yarai makes Kurusu wear some, [[BlatantLies telling her they'd protect her from animal attacks]], which she believed at first (he reveals the deception soon enough, though).
* AnyoneCanDie: Many, many characters, most notably [[spoiler: Zaji and now Tooru]] have been abruptly killed off.
* ApocalypticLog: Eiken's video camera serves as exposition to what the rest of the survivors had been up to since the plane crashed. It spoke for itself.
* ArcVillain: Nishikiori of the second to final arc.
* AttemptedRape: Being a beautiful girl is unlucky in Cage of Eden where there's a chance a horny bastard wants to rape them. Kusuru-sensei, Oomori and Rion were almost raped, and the rest of the girls...well, the same couldn't be said for them, notably Oomori's senpai, who was raped TO DEATH.
* BadassNormal:
** ''Yarai''. He once had to fend off ''three'' [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chalicothere chalicotheres]]. While carrying someone over his shoulder. '''[[ImprovisedWeapon With c]][[ImprobableWeaponUser ar keys]]'''. The only damage he took was from being smashed into a tree to stop them from attacking the rest of his group. It broke three of his ribs. His response was roughly "[[{{Determinator}} Pfft, only]] ''[[{{Determinator}} three ribs]]''"? He made them run like pansies by ripping off one of their claws.
** Akira evolves in this too.
%%** Miyauchi
* BaldOfEvil: The artist's [[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/eden_no_ori/v09/c075/17.html utterly bloody terrifying]] impression of the extinct giant ape, Gigantopithecus.
* BarbieDollAnatomy: The girls are frequently drawn naked, but lack nipples or pubic hair.
* BatmanGambit: Akira pulls one off in order to find out who hit Miina and left [[BlatantLies her]] to die.
* BearsAreBadNews: Especially when they're gigantic with long arms and legs.
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished:
** Kurusu-sensei doesn't suffer any permanent damage from the eye disease despite being the first to contract it.
** Averted many times over the course of the manga, though; many of the girls take bruises and cuts during battles with the wildlife, and many more are killed in horrible fashions.
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler: Yarai vs Cerberus]]
%%* BigEater: Akira.
* BittersweetEnding: [[spoiler: At the end of the manga, there have been several casualties for the passengers (including Zaji and Tooru). Their parents and relatives died, believing their loved ones died on a plane crash. But the group is still alive and strong, ready to set sail from the island to return to the outside world.]]
* BlandNameProduct: [[spoiler:Yotsubishi Heavy Industries is a spoof of an actual Japanese heavy machinery company, Mitsubishi (it also does a lot of other things). Hence the logo with four diamonds ("mitsu" = three --> "yotsu" = four).]]
* BrokenAce: [[spoiler:Kouhei would be a classic example, a smart, athletic, good-looking, and all around wonderful guy who starts off by killing the pilot during a mass panic and slowly goes off the deep end from there.]]
* BuxomIsBetter: Most of the male characters are attracted to large breast of Oomori or, in alternative, Rion and Mami.
** Oomori herself think that Akira could be seduced with her large breasts.
* TheCassandra: Subverted with Mami. Her own group doesn't believe her real premonition and is revealed to be a fake to Akira's group. Certain "coincidences" are starting to change everyone's opinions about her.
* CharacterDevelopment: Lots of characters get this treatment. Especially Akira. Starts off as the class clown, but grows to be a highly effective leader.
* ChasteHero: Despite Kotomi undressing and flat out attempting to force him to have sex with her, Akira refuses, simultaneously putting Kotomi in her place, while also wondering about what Rion would think if she were to walk in on them in the meanwhile. He's arguably a full blown ChivalrousPervert but he's trying to stay loyal to his crush and childhood friend Rion. It helps that they've made it pretty clear to one another that they like each other, from as early as the first 10 chapters no less.
* ChekhovsGunman: Miina [[spoiler:(or her body double)]] wasn't even properly introduced, yet the double can be seen running, back toward the camera, during Eiken's video recording of the airplane riot.
* ClingyJealousGirl:
** Rion doesn't like the fact that other girls are attracted to Akira as well.
** Segawa. To the point where [[spoiler: some of the boys believe that's why Yarai and Kurusu haven't hooked up in the finale--she's always there.]]
* CluelessChickMagnet: Akira as highlighted in chapter 167. His charisma and leadership abilities have also made him the romantic target of Rion Akagami, Maya Miyauchi, Tokiwa Aya, Yuki Sakuma, Kagura Mami, Kanako Oomori, Rei Ooguro, and Kashiwagi Sanae, who considering him to be an ideal husband should they be unable to leave the island. He doesn’t seem much aware of the large female attention he gets.
* CrapsackWorld: The island brings out the worst in people, even those who seemed more normal.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Several characters meet this end. [[spoiler: Such as Towa, who was gang raped to death by the people she was trying to help.]]
* CutShort: [[spoiler: The ending is rushed and it has too many plot holes. The manga never explains if they're actually clones, used technology to bring them into the future, or them ending in that future was just a mere coincidence. Even Hades's identity remain unknow]].
* DangerouslyShortSkirt: Most of the girls wear only their school uniforms that have short skirts. And often their panties are exposed at every dangerous situation.
* DarkestHour: [[spoiler: They finally have a decent plan to stop Cerberus and another monster appears. Kouhei prevents said monster from ruining the plan by dragging it underground (though no one sees him properly and the people used as bait are burning their shirts to get Cerberus's attention back.]]
%%* DeathByFlashback:
%%** [[spoiler: Tooru.]]
%%** [[spoiler: Akira's mother and Miina's grandfather.]]
* DeathWorld: The island filled with extinct beasts, traps and dangers caused by the climate.
* {{Delinquents}}: Both friendly (as Yarai) and unfriendly ones.
* {{Determinator}}: Akira and his team by extension. Akira has a resolute and determined personality which always places his friends priority over himself and attempts to to save anyone close to him, regardless of the situation
* DirtyCoward: Suzuki, who is often terrified of the very notion of danger and will make others test things out before him. Though he seems to be [[CharacterDevelopment getting better]], if Chapter 150 is any indication.
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: [[spoiler:Tooru he is killed in the last arc.]]
* EasilyForgiven:
** [[spoiler: Never mind that Kouhei kills a good number of other teens in his group and has others in the group adopt his same mentality and kill the rest, Akira still sees him as his friend. Then Akira's inner monologue reveals that he considers Kouhei's actions to be unforgivable; the malaise and conflict that would have inevitably resulted from the cognitive dissonance had Kouhei (who despite being aware by that point of how much he fucked up was still an insane, brain-damaged murderer) joined the group was thus [[ThePlotReaper conveniently resolved]]. Once the reader discovers that Kouhei is still alive, he doesn't feel he deserves to show himself to Akira.]]
** The list for this goes on and on. While quite a few [[{{Jerkass}} Jerkasses]] die [[KarmicDeath Karmic Deaths]], any that do survive are typically forgiven, regardless of how horrible they were.
** Lampshaded at one point by Rion as she complains about letting [[spoiler: some of Nishikiori's men walk around freely, even though they tried to rape the students.]] Mariya replies that if they punished them, they would hold a grudge against them, aggravating even more conflict. While they did despicable things, they had to work with each other in order to survive.
* EldritchAbomination: Most of the extinct animals on the island. [[spoiler: But especially the failed hybrids.]]
* EverythingsBetterWithDinosaurs: Averted. They're pretty much the only set of extinct species that don't show up. Then again, there's prehistoric birds such as ''Gastornis'', so the series technically does have dinosaurs.
* EverythingIsTryingToKillYou:
** On this island, even the flora is dangerous. Plants almost killed the group twice.
** One of the biggest dangers to the group of humans is [[HumansAreBastards themselves]]. People who land on this island tend to become insane and lose all sense of humanity for no explained reason.
* EyeScream:
** The characters fall victim to a disease that causes their eyes to become bloodshot, and in the terminal stages to become so swollen with blood that they burst.
** The giant bird rips out and eats the eye of its ''still living prey''.
* {{Fanservice}}: There are many PantyShot and bath scene (but with BarbieDollAnatomy).
* FanDisservice: Kurusu, down to her underwear… [[spoiler:for her makeshift surgery.]]
* FateWorseThanDeath: Several people meet grisly fates on the island. But the worst one was arguably [[spoiler: Oomori's senpai getting gang raped to death by 17 men, the very people she was trying to help.]]
* FeatheredFiend: ''Gastornis'' and ''Titanis'' are terrestrial, carnivorous birds. Titanis is even known as 'Terror Bird'.
* FriendToAllLivingThings:
** Well, there's not exactly very many friendly beasts on the island. But the one species so far that hasn't tried to kill the humans, the little flying squirrel things, really like Oomori, to the point that one has willingly become her pet.
** Also, [[spoiler: Akira and the alpha wolf of the resident wolf pack seem to have reached an understanding of sorts--the wolves don't hurt the humans, the humans don't hurt the wolves, and they all work together to stop the bears. [[BearsAreBadNews Well, they would, naturally.]]]]
* GeniusBruiser: Yarai himself. He is very strong, but it is also very intelligent and has different knowledge in various fields.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: [[spoiler: Mami to Yarai, after Yarai has a HeroicBSOD. It snaps him out of it.]]
* GiantFlyer: Argentavis are the biggest flying birds that ever existed, and they see humans as food.
* TheGlomp: Whenever Rion wants to express her happiness for finding out that Akira is still alive, she does this by ''jumping onto'' his upper body.
* GoneHorriblyWrong: [[spoiler: Turns out the whole island used to be a large research facility dedicated to reviving extinct animals.]]
* HalfIdenticalTwins: The Narumi twins, Kairi and Airi.
* {{Hallucinations}}: What happened to Akira and most of his group due to [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altitude_sickness acute mountain sickness]].
* HarmfulToMinors: Miina [[spoiler:(the fake one) witnessed her group's assault and murder of Towa]].
* HerbivoresAreFriendly: Averted. Herbivores can be quite aggressive if you startle them or intrude in their territories. Examples include Arsinoitherium, Chalicotherium and Paraceratherium.
* HotTeacher: Miss Kurusu. Kokonoe isn't all that hard on the eyes, either.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Kouichi Yarai, the [[JerkassFacade school delinquent]], and Motoko Kurusu, the teacher, who has effectively become his tag-along. Played up when he carries her in chapter 19 and the Japanese cover for volume 8.
* HumansAreBastards: [[{{Reconstruction}} Reconstructed.]] Several of the passengers do horrifically terrible things when put under the stress of being stranded on an unknown island. But when Akira leads the survivors, they become a cooperative, functioning group that risks their lives in order to protect each other.
* ImprovisedWeaponUser: Yarai's specialty, with particular favourites being his set of car keys and collection of five-hundred-yen coins.
* InfiniteFlashlight: Mariya's laptop never runs out of juice, even though he spends most of his waking hours using it. In chapter 54, it is finally subverted when the mystery of its power source is revealed to be a simple foot pedal peripheral that Mariya conveniently took to Guam instead of power plug adaptors. Where he kept the power adapter is another question.
* IntimateHealing: Rion gets an unconscious Akira to ingest the remedy to the eye disease by chewing it and regurgitating it into his mouth.
%%* IslandOfMystery
* {{Jerkass}}: Suzuki, who spends of his time being an arrogant, manipulative pervert. It goes to the point where fans were actually ''happy'' [[spoiler:when he was attacked by the bird.]] Several fans were disappointed in chapter 93 when he was [[spoiler: attacked by ANOTHER species of bird, but was then spat out.]]
* KarmaHoudini: So, so many.
** A couple of the biggest examples may be [[spoiler: Hades and Kouhei. Somewhat averted because they exile themselves from the rest of the group and have to fend for themselves. But they don't really suffer that much punishment for the large number of people they killed.]]
** To a degree, [[spoiler: Nishikiori. He did lose control of his slaves, got beaten pretty badly, and lost a leg. But at the end, it's shown that he's still allowed to live with the group freely. Despite killing several people and enslaving/terrorizing others.]]
* KillerGorilla: Gigantopithecus, while more related to orangutans, fit these description.
* KissOfLife: After rescuing Rion from drowning, Akira has to practice mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on her. Rion later returns the favor by giving him the antidote to a poisonous berry through mouth-to-mouth.
* TheKlutz: Oomori at the beginning of the series was very clumsy, but has since TookALevelInBadass.
* LaserGuidedKarma / KarmicDeath: It’s a sound tactic when surviving in Cage of Eden to not do anything evil. Additionally, the more evil a person is, the higher the chance of their [[{{Gorn}} gruesome deaths]] being depicted on-screen. Nicer characters usually get GoryDiscretionShot or NeverFoundTheBody. Cases include:
** [[spoiler:Yoshimoto and Mukouda steal the raft in order to reach a distant island, leaving everyone to die.]] Turns out it was just a mirage, and they’re quickly eaten.
** [[spoiler:A group of men that raped and killed Oomori’s senpai]] get their just deserts when several groups of giant predators devour them all because they were attracted by the blood of the people they just killed a few minutes ago.
** [[spoiler:Kouhei]]. [[invoked]] After realizing he has crossed the MoralEventHorizon, he goes on a killing spree and convinces [[spoiler:four of his group]] to adopt the same mentality as he did. Once he meets Akira, he regrets what he has done. As a flash flood threatens everyone’s safety, [[spoiler:the group of followers]] disregard his advice and drown. [[spoiler:Kouhei]] leads Akira and his group to safety, and subverting the trope, he chose to [[RedemptionEqualsDeath stay behind]]. [[spoiler:Even when the reader learns that he's still alive, he feels that he doesn't deserve to show himself to Akira.]]
** [[spoiler:Kotomi]]. Manipulates men and attempted to choke Akira to death after he rejected her. She falls off the cliff behind Akira and dies.
** [[spoiler:Ryouchi]]. Manipulates women and attempted rape. Gets manhandled by giant condors.
** [[spoiler: Nakamura, Mami the Clairvoyant's manager, and the rest of their group]]. They make sure their leader's predictions come true by killing some of Akira's group. Then after their attempts to slow down Akira's group and leave them to die, all of them are eaten by crocodiles, [[spoiler: exactly as Mami predicted]].
* TheLeader: Akira's a mix of Type III and IV. He often preaches by example, and one character even explicitly tells him (in confidence) that he actually induces courage in others.
* LeftHanging: [[spoiler: The manga abruptly ended after 182 chapters when the author was pressured to finish. While the mystery of the island was solved, '''HOW''' the survivors wound up there was never explained, along with many minor mysteries surrounding the last few chapters. Kouhei and Hades's fate (and the latter's identity) was, likewise, left in the air (though it's implied that they were simply left behind on the island, perhaps symbolic of how they can't rejoin civilization).]]
* LetsYouAndHimFight: Yarai and Sengoku, which we have Nishikori to "thank" for.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Akira and Rion, though the {{UST}} between them [[EveryoneCanSeeIt is obvious to everyone else]]. They have displayed outright affections for each other very early in the story, with each initiating their own [[DudeShesLikeInAComa kiss scene]] (even if it was to save the [[KissOflife other's life]], it’s easy to tell that they wanted it). It’s just that, whenever asked directly, they [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend deny it]]. [[spoiler:Both are starting to acknowledge their feelings for each other in later chapters.]]
* LivingOnBorrowedTime: [[spoiler: Kurusu-sensei, thanks to MortalWoundReveal -- she's supposedly unaware of it]].
* TheLoad: Mostly averted in Akira's group, as ''no one'' wants to slow down Akira and are all willing to do whatever they can to contribute. However as Tooru pointed out, the lack of someone to go "I'm tired, let's stop walking," almost took the lives of ''everyone'' in Akira's group when they attempted to climb a mountain too fast.
* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: But how many people were on that plane?.
* {{Lolicon}}: More than a few on the island--all PlayedForLaughs. There's the perverted monk, who lusts after the schoolgirls (and became a monk in the first place to dodge an EnjoKosai scandal), but won't even look at the college girls or adults. Then there are three of Nishikori's men, who are convinced to turn on their boss because [[WholesomeCrossdresser Fake Miina]] flashed his panties at them. Miina claims that most of the world's perverts are lolicons, so "He who controls the lolicons '' controls the world''."
* LostWorld: What the heroes have to survive in.
* LoveLetterLunacy: Let's just say that a group of delinquents mistook a locker that they thought was Yarai's and go on from there.
* MadScientist: Kokonoe Ugen, the science teacher. He was known for blowing up his classroom on a regular basis.
* MaleGaze: Even in the scenes in which the protagonists are attacked by beasts, the author does not forget to frame the backside of the girls with many PantyShot.
* MarshmallowHell: Twice to Akira. One from Rion and another from Oomori.
* MassTeleportation: [[spoiler: Turn out that the entire plane has traveled in the future.]]
%%* MegaCorp: [[spoiler:Spiral]].
* {{Meganekko}}: The teacher Kusuru-sensei.
* MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate: [[spoiler:Nishikiori. Except he doesn't have a doctorate, nor is he a doctor.]]
* MurderMakesYouCrazy: This is what breaks the ace, Kouhei. [[spoiler: This combined with a head injury that damages his ability to feel responsible for his own actions... After killing the pilot during a panic, he feels incredibly guilty and paranoid. When one of the girls he's traveling with claims she saw him murder the pilot, he kills her to protect his secret, and then told that she had been manipulated into saying that and hadn't known all along. Realizing that he'd murdered her pointlessly, combined with the brain damage which made it impossible for him to 'feel people looking at him', makes him go off the deep end and kill more people, even when it serves no purpose. He even bullies and tricks the other students with him into doing the same thing so that they end up crazy like him (minus the head injury).]]
* NeverFoundTheBody: [[spoiler:Zaji, whose body is never recovered. Kouhei as well, although [[NotQuiteDead there's a reason for that]].]]
* NeverSmileAtACrocodile: Pristichampsus are terrestrial, long-legged crocodiles that come in ''hordes''.
* NoEnding: The manga wraps up incredibly quick & sloppily, with at least one major mystery being solved, but nearly every other being left open. The LOST parallel taken to the extreme it seems.
* NoRomanticResolution: [[spoiler: The final chapter doesn't give any clear indications of romance. This is applied to Akira and Rion. At the last chapter, it's cleverly drawn that it looks like they might be holding hands. Even then, it's very unclear and can't be considered a "resolution."]]
* ObfuscatingStupidity: [[spoiler: Oomori, who can apparently read Latin, something even Mariya can't but hasn't told anyone due to self-confidence issues.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: Several of the students. Especially Yarai that looks more like young man and not a high school student .
* OutdoorBathPeeping: Akira gets a glimpse of Oomori bathing in a river. He later gets a clear view on Mami, as well.
** His several classmates tried to peek when the girls are bathing (and often are caught).
* PantyShot: Nearly all the girls expose their panties, especially Rion.
* PeopleJars[=/=]DesignerBabies: [[spoiler:All the extinct animals in the island.]]
* PedophilePriest: Seigou, though he's technically more of an ephebophile (and a relatively harmless one at that).
* PhotographicMemory: Hatsuse Shizuka,the vice president of the school student council. She has eidetic memory, giving her near perfect memorization.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Averted; [[spoiler:as Yarai's group begins to succumb to illness, he has his lackeys force Akira's group out of the cave that the latter group had discovered and were both sharing. Akira, however, realizes that Yarai is trying to quarantine his own group to prevent the spreading of the sickness, and has his people move out of the cave obediently. Turns out the sickness isn't exactly contagious, though...]]
* ProudBeauty: Deadly example. When Kotomi's SanitySlippage gets worse, she... doesn't exactly take Akira's refusal to have sex with her very well. [[spoiler: She attack Akira and her lashing out crumbled the ground that they were both standing on, resulting to her falling to her death with Akira badly injured.]]
%%* RagtagBunchOfMisfits
* RapeAsDrama: [[spoiler: Oomori's senpai's fate is a particularly nasty one.]]
* RecycledInSpace: ''Series/{{Lost}}: The Manga'', at least at first glance. This is in no way detrimental to the series however.
* RescueRomance: Isurugi Miina seems to have started falling for [[spoiler:her body double, the boy typically referred to as Miina]] after being saved by him more than once. Akira and Yarai also tend to attract admirers this way.
%%* TheResenter: Shuu Hikime.
* TheReveal: [[spoiler: They're about 50-60 years in the future, in a timeline where they died... And the fake Isurugi Miina's name is Heijirou]]
* RhinoRampage: ''Arsinoitherium'', although more closely related to elephants and dugongs, looks and acts like a rhino. Then there's ''Paraceratherium'' a hornless, 2 stories tall rhinoceros, that doesn't like intruders in its turf.
* TheRival: Kouhei and Yarai both fit. Kouhei especially, when he teams up with Akira to become BackToBackBadasses.
* SacrificialLion: [[spoiler: Zaji who dies from internal bleeding.]].
* SeaMonster: Basilosaurus, a huge serpent-like prehistoric whale.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Two new characters who showed up to Akira's camp act this way towards their previous group, after being completely disgusted in the [[labelnote:actions]]their camp was on the verge of dying from an illness, only to be cured by a so-called doctor. The camp's leader asked the doctor to save his daughter's life, but in order to usurp him as the new leader, the doctor left the daughter, as well as the leader himself, to die[[/labelnote]] of their new leader, who they call a [[TyrantTakesTheHelm tyrant]].
* SchoolgirlLesbians: Oomori became a flight attendant so she could be with her former [[SenpaiKohai senpai]], whom she had a crush on in school. She claims it was because she went to all girls schools and is now interested in males.
* ScienceIsBad: Subverted. [[spoiler: Turns out all the extinct animals were revived via genetic experiments. It's at first implied that they broke out and killed the researchers there, but it's later revealed that things didn't go wrong until the researchers were poisoned and the animals were released (since nobody was guarding them anymore). It's implied that the killers did this because they felt like they had intruded on God's territory. So it's less of science being bad, and more like fanatics believing that it is. Also worth mentioning is that even after the animals were released, they were on a relatively uninhabited island. It didn't really do anything bad until the plane crashed there.]]
* SecretlyDying:
** [[spoiler:Inverted, only those close to Kurusu-sensei know that she's dying, but Kurusu-sensei does not. It is revealed later on that she might know that she's dying.]]
** [[spoiler: Tooru is crushed by a collapsing ceiling and feigns being alright to keep Rei happy, and secretly asks Sengoku to look after her before dying.]]
* SerialEscalation: [[spoiler: The new monster that appeared AFTER cerberus]].
* SexyStewardess: Oomori, that is also the most buxom female character.
* TheShortGuyWithGlasses: Mariya who is short, has glasses and is the smartest member of the group.
* {{Shoutout}}: Possibly unintentional, but recently, [[Manga/BambooBlade a girl on the kendo team, named Kirino,]] has been introduced.
* ShownTheirWork: ''Everywhere''. In addition to the extremely well-researched extinct animals, the author displays extreme medical knowledge in the character's injuries. What's more, the villains take advantage of groupthink and other psychological tricks to control their followers. The characters even reference numerous real-life historical events when trying to explain things to the others.
* StrawNihilist: Several of the survivors treat their predicament as a chance to practice survival of the fittest. Hades beats them all.
%%* SugarAndIcePersonality: [[spoiler: Yarai, see JerkassFacade]].
* TapOnTheHead:
** Happens to Akira on at least two occasions.
** Averted elsewhere. More than one character has received brain damage from "taps."
* TeacherStudentRomance: Appears to be one between Kurusu-sensei and Yarai.
* TheseHandsHaveKilled: [[spoiler:Kouhei]], after stabbing the pilot.
* TimeSkip: [[spoiler: Nearly every chapter towards the end]]
* TookALevelInBadass:
** Everyone, and especially Oomori (who at first was scared of a very small furry animal, and later [[spoiler:takes a stab wound from Kouhei and then tries to write it off like it's nothing.]]) She willingly swims out to save Mariya from drowning.
** Pretty much the whole entirety of the large group of students the main characters meet and join. They do start off making a nice fort to live in but are clearly not good at the proper surviving part. Overtime, though, they all become tougher, learn to work better as a team and casualties drop severely, [[spoiler:to the point that almost all of them make it to the end of the story alive.]]
%%** Mariya, [[spoiler: after Zaji's death]].
* UnwantedHarem: From Rion's perspective: [[spoiler: every single female character admits to having romantic feelings for ''her'' Akira in chapter 167,]] much to her horror.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: [[spoiler:Yarai before the death of his mother]].
* TheVamp[=/=]BitchInSheepsClothing: Kawana Kotomi that has always been adored by men and goes crazy when Akira rejects his advances.
* VictoriousChildhoodFriend: [[spoiler: Akira with Rion....maybe.]]
%%* WaifProphet: [[spoiler:The real "Miina"]]
* WHAMEpisode:
** Chapter 61: [[spoiler: It's not an island]]
** Chapter 82: [[spoiler: Zaji dies, Morita Makoto (the guy with the camera) and the real Isurugi Miina are still alive, and their group is heading to a structure Morita saw in one of his photos...a seemingly ''manmade'' structure...]]
** Chapter 127: [[spoiler: The entire island was a research facility.]]
** Chapter 136: [[spoiler: The island is part of Japan, and closer to mainland Japan than they thought.]]
** Chapter 143: [[spoiler: Something was hibernating under the tower with traps and it's now awake and hungry. What is is? A giant mutant Cerberus.]]
** Chapter 147: [[spoiler: The fake Miina is swallowed alive by the Cerberus.]]
** Chapter 149: [[spoiler: There is more than one mutant.]]
** Chapter 150: [[spoiler:Someone's taking care of the second mutant. It's [[NotQuiteDead KOUHEI]]. If that wasn't bad enough, HADES is also back.]]
** Chapter 161: [[spoiler: Nishikiori is not really a Doctor.]]
** Chapter 166: [[spoiler: The island might not actually be close to Japan]].
** Chapter 182: [[spoiler: They're in the future.]]
