I Dream of Mimi (or Buttobi CPU) is a Japanese Manga series created by Kaoru Shintani. It's about a nerdy student named Akira Takaoka who saved money to buy a new personal computer, only to find out that they're sold out. Then he buys what he believes to be the same model in a box from a shady man in an alley, only to find out that it's actually a bio-android who looks like a young lady. Even worse, she'll require his active molecules to refresh her memory.

The manga, written and illustrated by Kaoru Shintani, was published by Hakusensha in Young Animal magazine. There were three volumes running 1993-1997. For tropes related to the OVA series see this page.

The manga provides examples of:

  • Armor-Piercing Question: When Akira asks Mimi where she came from and why she made him her owner, she initially gets nervous, then shuts down and reboots, not intending to answer.
  • Bland-Name Product: At the beginning of Access 5, we see a PlayStar by Sany.
  • Blessed with Suck: Mimi has the 72 System, which means she has to install every 72 hours to accomodate for her owner's changes, for her to grow when he does, even if it's not necessary for other CPUs.
  • Fanservice Cover: Each cover as well as most chapter first pages show Mimi with little clothing or none at all.
  • Femme Fatalons: Mantura and Contura have extremely long Triton Claws which they use to attempt to rip out Mimi's CPU.
  • Flipping the Bird: Quadra gives the finger when she's told to leave the area with a lock.
  • The Glasses Come Off: Aptiva takes off her glasses right before fighting the Nacintosh Sisters.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: The only difference between Antura and Contura is that the latter has a slight pattern based on a spider under her hair.
  • Left Hanging: Akira himself states that the nature of Sakuya Project is still a mystery and he still doesn't know where Mimi comes from near the end.
  • Naked First Impression: Akira sees Mimi naked when he opens the box.
  • One-Gender Race: For humanoid PCs, by the year 2050, only female babies were born, so they were forced to use clones through sperm and later splitting the ovum.
  • The Password Is Always "Swordfish": A bio-type CPU's password is automatically set to the most negative emotion recognised in the data set during registration. In Mimi's case, it's hate, which Akira accidentally triggers when he shouts "I hate you!" at her.
  • Rhyme Theme Naming: Mantura and Contura, the NAC units introduced in volume 3.
  • Robot Girl: When he gets home, Akira is shocked to find that his new computer is actually a gynoid. What's even more frustrating is that she constantly needs his semen to refresh her physical data. The evil Macs are also designed to be Sexbots.
  • Robosexual: The premise of the manga and anime. Mimi is designed to be a sexbot, constantly requiring Akira's "active molecules" to refresh her physical systems.
  • Self-Abuse: Junpei and Futoshi assume Akira went home early because he jacked off too much.
  • Sexbot: Mimi was designed as one, due to a manufacturing oversight. She also constantly needs Akira's semen to refresh her physical memory.
  • Shout-Out: The battle between Mimi and Molima in Disk 2 of Access 5 plays like a traditional Fighting Game, with the former dressed as Chun-Li and the latter as Morrigan.
  • Strip Poker: A variation appears in Access 5 with Strip Mahjong.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: Akira goes into one after inputting his data into Mimi in Access 1.
  • True Neutral: In-Universe, Aptiva considers herself to be both Mimi's friend and enemy. She initially wants the Nacintoshes to get rid of her, but later saves her and installs a Pentacle-II.
  • Wheel o' Feet: Shimada running away after seeing Akira pee is depicted with her feet spinning in an elipsis.
