Troper IRC Channel
<BonSequitur> My grave, regardless of how I die, in fact especially if I die in bed at a ripe old age surrounded by friends and family, will say: "Here lies BonSequitur. People fucked with him too much, and so he decided to flip out, kill a bunch of people, and then dry-hump a moving underground train."
Without this man, you wouldn't be able to talk to the people on this page. Neat!

<NamelessFragger>: GuitarBizarre: How about we talk about tropes, games, or something that DOESN'T involve cock for once?
<GuitarBizarre>: NamelessFragger: This is #tropers. How likely is that to ever happen?
It's more likely than you think!

Did you know that TV Tropes has its own IRC channel(s)? The troper IRC channels are on irc.esper.net. Come and chat!

  • #tropers: The original channel, where we tropers often hang out and just generally have fun. Unrelated to the forum or website, mainly - if you have questions about the wiki or need something changed, please go to Trope Repair Shop or Ask The Tropers.
  • #yackfest: Founded and run by forum regulars. Our second main channel. Has a website for rules, silly quotes, statistics and general information.
  • #127.0.0.1 - Welcome home. It's safer here. A general purpose channel, with talk being anywhere from anime to video games to NSFW talk.
  • #fetishfuel: The, er, NSFW offshoot of the main channel. If you've got images to share, need to talk about this and that, or talk about computer problems, bring it here rather than the main channel. Oh, and make sure you're 18.
  • #nightmarefuel: As fetishfuel, but rather than being based around sex, based around anything horrifying and/or completely squick. Not for the faint of heart.
  • #teentropers: For the younger generation who don't quite fit into the above channels
  • #tropers-rp: The home of the Troper IRC Tabletop game! Check that wiki page for details!
  • #troper-mtg For those of you that want to play or learn to play Magic: The Gathering. You can find more information on the Just For Fun page and our Troper Covens thread.

How to Connect

The fastest way to log on is to use a web client such as Mibbit. This link will take you directly to #tropers; just pick a nickname and come say hi.

If you decide to stick around, you might want a dedicated IRC client. Firefox users often gravitate towards Chatzilla, which has a pretty good FAQ to get you started. Other popular options include mIRC on Windows, LimeChat on Macs, XChat or Konversation on Linux, and Colloquy for those poor souls with iPhones. Once you've got an IRC client installed, you can connect by clicking on links such as this one.

By the way, consider adding to the Troper IRC Channel Quotes page if you read something funny while lurking.

The Rules
  • Please note these are more guidelines than anything else. You will see us occasionally flout the rules for the sake of a good joke or a laugh, but by and large you should avoid doing the below. If you're new, this goes double, since knowing when its ok to do this is largely a matter of experience and knowing how the regulars will react. If in doubt - DONT!
  • The main site admins don't go to IRC, to the best of our knowledge, and pestering about administrivia won't help anyone have a good time. This disrupting the channel HAS led to at least one banning previously, so bear in mind nobody is obligated to help you with your wiki issue, though many of us will probably be more than happy to help.
  • Don't paste walls of text directly into the channel. Anything more than a line or two belongs in a pastebin, so pick one before you try to show us an eight-page passage from your favorite novel. Oh, and if you have a lot to say, try to write in full paragraphs instead of putting down one phrase per line. This includes lyricspam.
  • Certain topics may spark ten-screen flame wars. You can probably imagine what those are.
  • You may occasionally get /kicked out of the channel. This can be anything from a playful show of affection to a warning about your behavior; pay attention to what the ops are saying, and you'll know which is which. You can usually come back after a /kick, but if you're getting /kicked repeatedly, it's probably time to sober up/calm down.

Please be aware, all the below lists cover #tropers and #yackfest only. Offshoot channels are not included! If you only idle in a single offshoot, please do not add yourself!
(Its ok to be more active in an offshoot, but you have to at least hang out a LITTLE in the main channels, please)

Channel Operators

  • On #tropers:
    • BonSequitur - Founder of the original IRC channel, a long time ago, in a network far, far away. Current channel owner. The buck stops here, folks.
    • Caphi The Undescribable - actually pretty describable, but is keeping the name anyway. If the room is sufficiently quiet, may begin describing video games without warning. Currently working failing to subvert/avert With Great Power Comes Great Insanity. Owns and operates TropeBot. Has a penis. Ask him about robots (especially Super Robot Wars), D&D, Python, or Japanese. Rules benevolently over #tropers-rp.
      • TropeBot - an IRC bot that does various neat things. Its contributor page is extremely outdated.
    • Odda C - The black guy. Also, the one with the fastest and itchiest trigger finger on the /kick button. Watches the channel like a hawk, and may forcefully order it to dance if he sees too little activity.
    • Skellie - Our Loli of #tropers. Apparently a Sealed Orgy In A Can.
    • theFirebottle - A tranny. Self-proclaimed God of Cool Trains. Will occasionally air a story idea to the channel if nothing in particular is going on.
    • twitchmoss - Known as moss - absentee OP in residence. will occasionally drop in. Has developed a knack for kicking himself accidentally while trying to moderate the channel.
  • #yackfest keeps its own list here.

Bots (yes, there are quite a few)
  • TropeBot - As mentioned above. For commands, type "!help".
  • feepbot - May or may not be skynet. Has lots of cool features including quotes and youtube pwning. Try not to use the maid/mansion command if you don't want to invoke the wrath of the channel, or really REALLY want a game of MAID RPG. Not op'd, but vastly important to the channel. For commands, type ".help".
  • Omnipresence - #yackfest's house bot, run by IllFlower. In off-and-on development—people interested in the (horribly messy) source code can take a gander. For commands, type "@help".
  • Prefectus - Necavi's indev bot, talk to Necavi if you have ideas you would like to see added to it.

Users Specify if your IRC nick is different
  • aishkiz - perpetual idler, usually somehow manages to have conversations completely unrelated to what everyone else is talking about. I dunno, someone describe me. :3
  • Altrus - I really use Teentropers more than Tropers. KNOWN AS AEONSLEUTH
  • Androgeos - Mostly an observer on #tropers and #fetishfuel, because he is unable to understand or keep up with most conversations. Uses the nick "Altiris" when he reconnects too quickly. Likes murdering Firefox as well as his own ghost. CAUTION: If he's getting distracted by a link he posted, it is very likely that the link's a YouTube Poop.
  • Anemotaxis - Goes by IllFlower when around or VerticalPig when away. Chief op for #yackfest.
  • Arha - I don't know who this Arha guy is, but I wish I could be that cool. Mostly moved from #tropers to #yackfest recently and also idling in #fetishfuel. Lord and master of #incrediblycoolchannel due to not taking it off autojoin.
  • Babar - resident french dude that tend to evacuate the stress of his workdays by spouting irritating nonsense. Can occasionally engage in serious convos, insofar as they happen.
  • Barcode711 - Fairly active. Western Mecha, science fiction, and car fanatic. Aspiring Pungeon Master; likes wordplay in general. Goes as Barcode in #yackfest and #tropers.
  • Beorc - Also known as Bjork. Is not related to the Swedish Chef.
  • Buttercupistiny Hangs out in #yackfest, usually watching. Talks only occasionally, usually to say something stupid. Often seen under the nick ponigirl.
  • Chen - Touhou nut and resident Memetic Molester.
  • Demon Shark Kisame - Goes by KingSphinx on IRC, can be found usually on #tropers and #yackfest. Pretty much seemingly pops in and out at random, but usually hangs around for the hell of it (or if I can't sleep. Whichever applies). May or may not actually be royalty and/or an Egyptian creature of myth.
  • Domus - Describe Domus here.
  • Doomlewa - Shows up on #Yackfest every once in a while, Doesn't really talk about anything specific.
  • dreki - The resident alcoholic. Prone to rage, especially when paired with GuitarBizarre.
  • EmpoleMew - Rather stoic and somewhat snarky. Resident professor of Pokémon and lover of retro and role-playing games. (And especially retro role-playing games.) He is the other black guy and prime example that Freud Was Right.
  • Fallingwater - Happy he finally found a place where IRC still lives on, and frequently continues to talk. Linux-head and general GNU advocate.
  • Feep Owner and operator of Feepbot. Roles include resident channel programming geek, linux nerd, and german. Can frequently be found playing Starcraft 2, or programming some absurd addition to feepbot. Try the .woof command!
  • Fifthman - The resident Magic: The Gathering pimp. Started #troper-mtg.
  • FishOfLightning - #Tropers' resident bass player and filthy youngin'. Heterosexual Life Partners with Empole. Known as "Fish O Light" on IRC.
  • Flarp22 - Mostly a lurker, but if pinged I might talk. Also goes by Daiyousei.
  • Gesithan - Is the resident DrunkenMaster, EruditeStoner, and other drug-related shenanigans, DeadpanSnarker and general smart ass.
  • Glenn Magus Harvey - is known as "GMH" on IRC.
  • GoldenFox - Changes topics constantly, is generally annoying. Runs a Garrysmod server.
  • GuitarBizarre - resident channel audio nut, and music guy. Plays guitar, loves music, and has a PC Rig and Soundsystem combination that are frankly, far, far too good. Warning: Loves to argue. A lot. Also, currently holds the title of #tropers most-quoted member.
  • Hazuki - The channel's resident Yuri Fangirl and self-described "snarky dyke sysadmin." Has as of late been prone to rage, trolling, or combinations of both. Considers herself to have a broad knowledgebase. Get popcorn whenever GB gets angry at her (or vice versa).
  • Hremsfeld - goes by "Razgriz" due to a character on a Bleach RP. Ask him about it at your own risk...Trope Bot really LIKES her Bleach gun.
    • Edit: Where HAS that cursed thing gone?
  • Hikaru - Lurker. IRC operator. Extremely random an-Ooh! Shiny thing!
  • JackMackerel - Always in #tropers and #yackfest. Will occasionally hop on #tropers-touhou, #fetishfuel, #troper-rp, and #gender.
  • Jseblan - Only on #yackfest, kind of a Cloud Cuckoo Lander. Generally lurks until interesting stuff happens. Is also Canadian.
  • Ivolt - Usually trying not (actively) to cause mass frustration and rage. Failing horribly.
  • ivoryRum - frequents #yackfest. Is an op there. Sometimes goes by discordant, atomicPlayboy, or Aeschylus.
  • ixpemJMn - Quips about everything. Possibly insane.
  • Jezza - Has been told she's much too hyper for everyone's own good. Most likely the residential Cloudcuckoolander for #teentropers.
  • KBKarma - Normally lurks in #tropers (for obvious reasons), #gender (is straight), and #teentropers (is 23). When active, will try to stay on-topic. Talks about anime and manga, sci-fi and fantasy novels, gaming (video and tabletop), coding, comics, and pretty much anything else. Enjoys punning and wordplay.
  • KennyMan666 - is no longer on mibbit because Espernet stopped being idiotic. Thus now more responsive, if anyone ever wanted to talk to him.
  • KiaPurity - ... known as herself. Oddly entertaining CloudCuckooLander. Every single person on #tropers has a fixation with her ovaries. Especially Tako.
  • Kitchingham - Talks a lot. Rarely says much.
  • Kiwikaos - the channel's original New Zealander, as we now have another one or two. Yes, that is what kiwi means. No, it's not just a fruit. Often found playing in many of the games in #tropers-rp.
  • Krieg - is rarely in #tropers any more, but sometimes drops by some of the specialty boards like #fetishfuel, #gender, or #nightmarefuel.
  • Lofn - exists.
  • LordSlug - As Himself. CloudCuckooLander. Likes to mess with peoples minds. Unfortunately he doesn't get very far in this. Dreams of having the most quotes on #tropers, but is too full of shit to produce high quality quotes regularly. He will get there though... somehow...
  • Lunamon - Rarely ever talks, attempted to leave previously but couldn't stay away. When they do talk, it's probably because someone said 'lunatic'.
  • ManicOppressive - Goes by Manic on IRC cause I'm lazy. I'm only on occasionally.
  • Meiriona - is the resident channel crazy cat lady. She's friendly and says stuff! But she can occasionally be a little obsessive about..... many things, including her three cats. Ask about the one who tried to swim in ramen.

  • MrArgent - Descriptive text
  • MorkaisChosen - Don't hurt me, I'm new. Or something.

  • N00Bish_Legend - voted most likly to spontaneously inplode, also can't spell
  • Notewell - Recent new kid on the block who usually lurks in #tropers, #yackfest, and occasionally #teentropers and #tropers-touhou. Huge anime, mango, and vidya fan who, once you get him started, can't keep his mouth shut.
  • NulNul - As NulNul. He mastered the art of lurking loooong before coming to the IRC channel.
  • Raekuul - Only in this spot on the list because of how "A" is before "O"... Regularly comes in, but needs to lurk moar more. Goes by Pokota in the chat.
  • Red223- goes by the mind blowingly awesome name of Tranhauser_Gate
  • Roland - Same as troper. Resident Idealist; tends to fill up empty time with insane rp schemes and chatting when nobody's talking. Likes to rant, a lot.

  • Tako #tropers unoffical octopus. Very prone to misspelling words
  • The Jackal - #yackfest lurker. Goes by the same name as here.
  • thenikopico - A bit of a lurker, but I'll start talking once you mention music. Or movies. Or anything geeky. Guess what I am?
  • Theoneknownasme - Usually goes by the nick TOKAM, or TOKAMhack if he feels like punishing himself. Generally lurks around #yackfest, but can be roused into activity if there happens to be a Homestuck conversation going on at the time.
  • Thomas Castle - Usually goes by the name of T-Cat but his name very frequently changes between obscure words or phrases or variations on his own name. Frequents as many troper-related channels as he can get his hands on. Amateur Author. You should probably not listen to a word he says and be very patient and forgiving of him. Or at least patient. He understands if you can't forgive him. He can barely forgive himself most of the time.
  • Thnikkafan - is Staghorn.
  • TroyMartin - Same nick, same person. Lives in Cascadia, north of the 49th. Eh.
  • TsundeRay - As Raydere. Used to be in #tropers, but attention for it waned and he eventually left for other reasons. Currently a regular in #gender annd #fetishfuel, with occasional trips to #nightmarefuel when he feels like discussing fascinating (High Octane) Accidental Nightmare Fuel finds. Please don't PM him unless it's something personal; PM'ing him about things that can be comfortably discussed in IRC makes him feel awkward.
  • Twentington — Main channel. Resident Twentington.
  • Tzetze - On #yackfest most days, under another name. If you have to ask who someone is, it's probably Tzetze.
  • Unhappy Yak - Is always unhappy. It's Brocrates' fault.
  • Wild Seraph - He's a bit of an idiot, and likes to be a part of every conversation taking place, no matter how personal. Expect to have to repeat yourself when he's around. Also hangs around in #127.0.0.1, #gender (He's bi) and #yackfest.
  • Xingjio - Resident annoying guy and Doctor Who geek. Usually hides out in #teentropers.
  • Zelse - Resident canuck. Ridiculously well informed on politics and the like. Tends to aggravate Guitarbizarre whenever discussing Britain. Friendly, and sarcastic.
  • Yuanchosaan - op on #troper-mtg, usually lurks on #yackfest. Will occasionally spout something about literature or visual art.
  • Vergas - Hangs Out In Tropers, Teentropers and Gender. Kinda nice to talk to if caught in a good mood. Leaves his laptop on 24/7 so unless something happens to his net he will be in there just as often.
