[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* ''[[Manga/BakusouKyoudaiLetsAndGo Bakusou Kyoudai Lets And Go!! WGP]]'': Has this as the main theme: five [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini_4WD Mini 4WD]] racers build up a team to go heads-to-heads with other teams in an international competition.
* ''Anime/BeybladeBurst'': There are a good amount of teams but the main one is the Beigoma Academy Bey Club.
** TheLeader: Volt Aoi who was appointed as team leader by his friends. Despite being the team leader, Volt isn't the strongest blader on the team. That honor goes to Shu.
** TheLancer: Shu Kurenai. Shu is TheAce of the team and often wins battles without many effort. As stated above, Shu is actually the strongest member on the team since he rarely loses battles unlike with Valt.
** TheBigGuy: Rantaro Kiyama. He is the tallest member of the team and his bey relies on stamina instead of offensive power. He also serves as TheHeart of the team and always side with Valt whenever his leadership is questioned by others (mainly by Wakiya).
** TheSmartGuy: Daigo Kurogami. He is often well informed of other bladers and always try to warn his teammates of their abilities. He is also usually the most level headed of the group and often tries not to let others get to him.
** TokenEvilTeammate: Wakiya Murasaki. Although he is not evil, he is the the most [[JerkAss rude and aggressive]] of the team and [[BrutalHonesty constantly calls out Valt for being a poor leader]]. He is also frequently disobeys Valt's orders despite Valt being the leader (though Wakiya does get overruled all the time). However, he is actually the team's second strongest blader behind Shu himself as Wakiya often wins his battles with [[OneHitKill a single attack]]. However, he does eventually warm up to the rest of the team.
** In ''Beyblade Burst Turbo'', a new generation of the Beigoma Academy Bey Club arises.
*** TheLeader: Fubuki Sumiye is the leader and initially the strongest member of the team. Due to his {{Determinator}}, mentorship from Shu Kurenai and TrainingFromHell mentality, he's a stern but fair leader that the rest of the club looks up to, even Suoh.
*** TheLancer: Suoh Genji is Fubuki's best friend and most loyal comrade. Together, they led the Beigoma Academy Bey Club to victory in the Team Tournament. However, Suoh's use of Heat Salamander drives him to harbor resentment against Fubuki for his hard work vs. his natural talent and eventually breaks off their friendship, leaving the team until Fubuki defeats him in a rematch.
*** TheBigGuy: Koji Konda, Hoji's younger brother, is physically the most gifted of the four strongest bladers on par with Hae-jin, and has an aggressive passion whenever motivated.
*** TheSmartGuy: Toko Aoi, Valt's younger brother isn't as talented as his younger brother, but uses strategy and his skills as a information gatherer from when he was younger to analyze and plan to defeat his opponents whether for himself or for the team.
*** TheHeart: Nika Aoi, is the team's Bey Trainer, ensuring the well being and safety for her brother and fellow team members, while supporting the needs and resources for the 100s of bladers in the Bey Club.
* ''Anime/DragonBallZ'': The Z Fighters/The Earth's Special Forces - the team that kept on growing. Almost all of them [[DefeatMeansFriendship started out as enemies]] and settled into a different role. After the Android Saga almost everyone retired except for the Saiyans (mostly due to CantCatchUp), and even Gohan, Goten, and Trunks left the front lines after the Buu Saga (the former lost interest and the other two were unofficially kicked off due to their immaturity and inexperience). As of the Universal Survival Arc in ''Super'' most of them unlocked more true potential and were re-recruited by Goku.
** TheLeader - Goku, he technically founded the team when he partnered with Piccolo to fight Raditz. The others look to him for leadership, not only because he's almost always the strongest and has the best battle instincts, but because he's a genuinely lovable guy who they trust will want to do the right thing.
** TheLancer - Piccolo, co founded the group with Goku and [[NumberTwo stepped up as The Leader whenever Goku was]] dead/hospitalized/traveling the universe. Initially threatening where Goku was approachable he became wise where Goku was simpleminded, especially after fusing with Kami. When he falls behind in power he still gives counsel.
** TheTeamBenefactor and TheSmartGirl - Bulma, as the head of Capsule Corp, not only has enough money to fund the team, but she's also an inventor and scientist who can build armor, time machines, and spaceships with training rooms in them.
** {{Sidekick}} - Krillin plays second banana to Goku, Piccolo, Bulma and even Vegeta on occasion. While he's not that useful in a fight, he's never far from the action, and he'll faithfully back up whoever is currently holding down the fort.
** ChildSoldier - Gohan, Goku's son is a prodigy as a fighter, and Piccolo made sure to bring that potential out when he forcibly recruited the kid to fight the Saiyans. Unlike both of his father figures, he is a ReluctantWarrior who would rather [[BadassBookworm focus on academics]]. Despite having the greatest hidden potential and being able to easily surpass Goku or Vegeta when he applies himself, he retires from fighting early on becoming a [[TheHeart school teacher and family man]].
** LovableRogue: Yamcha, moreso in Dragonball when he was the Desert Bandit. Back then his bandit skills were useful in hunting the Dragon Balls. In Z he drops this trait and instead fights ForGreatJustice against threats to the Earth.
** GeniusBruiser: Tien is a strong martial artist who has reached enlightenment. His Solar Flare technique can work on anyone, regardless of how strong they are and his Kikohou is the only technique to work on the CastFromLifeSpan principle which means he can invoke YouShallNotPass successfully on much stronger creatures.
** {{Sidekick}} Chiaotzu is Tien's sidekick and follows his lead.
** TheMedic- Yajirobe's usual contribution to the Z Fighters is delivering Senzu beans from Corin, because otherwise he is a LazyBum who complains from the sidelines.
** TheRival - Vegeta is Goku's cunning and ruthless EvilCounterpart. It takes several years for the team to warm up to him being around, but when he [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold finally mellows]] out he becomes a second {{Lancer}} as Goku's only equal on the battlefield, and his training buddy on Beerus' planet.
** ShellShockedVeteran - Future Trunks, polite, humble and extremely paranoid about evil threats after being ravaged by both the Future Androids and Goku Black.
** TheDividual - Goten and Trunks, young kids who antics are mostly innocent, and harmless. They become BrattyHalfPint Gotenks when they FusionDance, who's an [[{{Jerkass}} arrogant]] showboat.
** TheStoic - Android 18, joins late, rarely joins the fight, and even more rarely speaks. When she does its usually snark. She is basically the team's mercenary since nothing motivates her more than money (and family, after she marries Krillin).
** {{Shorttank}} - Videl, a tomboyish go-getter that wanted to be on the front lines. So she demanded that Gohan teach her how to fly.
** TheFace - Mr. Satan is the only one the public trusts and having a celebrity on the team comes with advantages.
** BigFun - Mr. Buu, usually docile, always hungry, but [[TheBerserker extremely powerful and dangerous when angered]]. Recruiting him was one of the advantages that Mr. Satan brought to the team.
** GenkiGirl - Pan, just a baby but has the same zest for fighting as a full blooded Saiyan, unlike the other hybrids.
** TokenEvilTeammate: [[spoiler:Freeza, finally recruited (conditional and temporary) to join the Tournament of Power Team after Buu dropped out. The first antagonist to [[EnemyMine fight alongside the Z fighters]] without actually being [[HeelFaceTurn on a path towards redemption]]. Still solidly a bad guy]].
* ''Anime/GirlsUndPanzer'': Tankery teams are a double layered version. Each school has a group of tanks that work together on the field and each tank requires five people (commander, radio operator, driver, gunner, and loader) to operate at maximum effectiveness.
* ''Literature/GoblinSlayer'': Goblin Slayer's party.
** TheLeader: Goblin Slayer.
** TheLancer: High Elf Archer, who often acts as the voice of dissent to Goblin Slayer's unorthodox plans.
** TheSmartGuy: Dwarf Shaman, the most capable spellcaster of the group.
** TheBigGuy: Lizard Priest, the biggest and most physically strong adventurer in the party.
** TheHeart: Priestess, the healer of the group who does her best to act as Goblin Slayer's moral chain.
* ''Literature/HaruhiSuzumiya'': The SOS Brigade. Interestingly, the Brigade actually counts twice: The roles Haruhi thinks everyone plays, and their real roles. The musical part of the trope is played with in the drama CD, ''Sound Around'', when Haruhi makes the Brigade into a band and gives them the proper (from her point of view) instruments, though Yuki and Kyon's guitars are switched.
** '''Haruhi's Version:'''
*** TheLeader: Haruhi calls herself the brigade 'super commander' and has a unstoppable Type III personality.
*** TheLancer: Itsuki is Haruhi's offical NumberTwo[=/=]YesMan and is far calmer than her.
*** TheBigGuy: Kyon is assigned all the miscellaneous heavy lifting and grunt work.
*** TheSmartGuy: Yuki [[SmartPeopleWearGlasses wears glasses]] and reads books all the time.
*** TheHeart: Mikuru is dragged into the brigade to be the '{{moe}} mascot' because she's "Cute, tiny and exceptionally well endowed".
*** SixthRanger: Tsuruya isn't officially in the Brigade, but still frequently involved.
** '''Real Version:'''
*** TheLancer: Haruhi to Kyon, because the others actually put Kyon's orders above hers. She also contrasts his snarking 'do not care' attitude with her [[GenkiGirl boundless energy]].
*** TheSmartGuy: Itsuki is the go-to guy for explanations (even if that explanation is just "explain [[{{Technobabble}} Yuki's explanation]]") and spends most of his time [[ContemplateOurNavels contemplating]] or scheming.
*** TheLeader: Kyon is snarky and apathetic, but when things get out of hand he takes control to guide everything back on track. Even Haruhi listens to him on occasion.
*** TheBigGuy: Yuki is a super-human alien bio-robot who can [[RealityWarper alter reality]], so she tends to be a catch-all solution to most problems. Not to mention she's NighInvulnerable with SuperStrength.
*** TheHeart: Mikuru is still TheHeart. Itsuki theorizes she was chosen for her mission specifically to appeal to Kyon's protectiveness, which would also make the standard TheLeader[=/=]girl romance an InvokedTrope.
*** SixthRanger: Tsuruya doesn't count as SixthRanger quite as much as Haruhi thinks (since the main Brigade keeps her out of the supernatural stuff), but she still has some elements. Not to mention that she might be a humanoid interface like Yuki, though there's not enough evidence to be sure.
* ''Manga/HighschoolOfTheDead'': This is how Takashi's group is built to take on the raging ZombieApocalypse.
** TheLeader: Takashi Komuro, a JackOfAllStats with great leadership skills to boot.
** TheLancer: Rei Miyamoto, Takashi's childhood friend, main love interest, who helps him fight the zombies
** TheBigGirl: Saeko Busujima, by far the best fighter in the group, and is also Takashi's secondary love interest.
** TheSmartGirl: Saya Takagi, the most intelligent of the group, although that is also what causes her to be quite arrogant at times.
** FriendlySniper: Kohta Hirano, an excellent sniper and gun enthusiast, takes this role due to his chubby appearance which might hinder him in close combat.
** TheMedic: Shizuka Marikawa, the school medic, who takes this role... [[DrivesLikeCrazy At least, when not driving.]]
** TagalongKid: Alice/Arisu Maresato is with the others, although she can't do much because of her incredibly young age.
* ''Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaStrikerS'': The Riot Force 6 of the TSAB.
** TheLeader[=/=]BigGood: Hayate Yagami, the Commander of Riot Force 6. She's not a good fighter, that's why she usually commands the team. If she does enter the battlefield, she nukes her enemies with her overpowered magic.
** TheLancer[=/=]NumberTwo: Reinforce Zwei, whose Hayate's assistant, but unlike Hayate, Reinforce Zwei is actually quiet competent on the battlefield. She also serves as a Unison Device for Hayate, Vita and Signum to fuse with them.
** SergeantRock: Nanoha Takamachi, a Captain who trains the Forward Team and is the leader of the Forward [=StarS=]. She, Fate and Signum are the best fighters of Riot Force 6.
** FairCop[=/=]FragileSpeedster: Fate T. Harlaown, a Captain and Enforcer who is equal to Nanoha. The leader of the Forward Lightning and she leads the investigation of the JS Incident under the command of Hayate.
** MultiMeleeMaster: Signum, a skilled and powerful swordswoman who masters sword and bow. A Vice-Captain and Fate's NumberTwo of the Forward Lightning. She is a mostly a fighter than anything else, who can teach others only how to take down the enemies.
** GlacierWaif: Vita, who is Nanoha's NumberTwo of the Forward [=StarS=] and is the co-trainer of the Forward Team. Is very protective to others, icluding her subordinates.
** CombatMedic: Shamal, a medic who also has abilities to observe the field provides the Wolkenritter with information. She has also combat abilities to back-up.
** TeamPet: Zafira and Friedrich; the former being a wolf who stays in his wolf form and the other being a little dragon who can turn into a big dragon. Zafira is one of the Wolkenritter and Friedrich is Caro's AnimalCompanion. Both are quiet powerful.
** CuteBruiser: Subaru Nakajima, an AscendedFangirl who admires Nanoha and serves her in the Forward [=StarS=]. A frontline fighter who is also a {{Cyborg}}.
** TheSmartGirl: Teana Lanster, also TheLeader of the Forward Team. She is TheStrategist who uses her brains in combat. Also a member of the Forward [=StarS=].
** DragonKnight: Erio Mondial, the only guy who actually fights on the frontlines and often on Carol's dragons. He is also a member of the Forward Team and the Forward Lightning. He forms a sub-team with Caro via SwordAndSorcerer.
** TheBeastmaster: Caro Ru Lushe, a member of the Forward Team and Forward Lightning who has the ability to summon dragons. She is also the WhiteMagicianGirl and forms a sub-team with Erio via SwordAndSorcerer.
** TheSixthRanger: Ginga Nakajima, an extra member of the Forward Team who is actually from the 108th Division. Like her younger sister Subaru, Ginga is a {{Cyborg}}.
** RightHandHottie[=/=]NumberTwo: Griffith Lowran, Hayate's secretary who commands the Long Arch when she is not there.
** BridgeBunnies: Shario Finienno, Alto Krauetta and Lucino Lilie, all three of them working on the bridge. Each of them has her own speciality. Shario is a mechanic who works on the Devices and observes the training results, Alto is a helicopter pilot who replaces Vice, and Lucino is a spaceship pilot.
** FriendlySniper: Vice Granscenic, the helicopter pilot who retired from sniping due to a failed mission. After being injured, he's replaced by Alto, but Vice comes back as a sniper while flying another helicopter.
* ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamThe08thMSTeam'':
** TheLeader: Shiro, the commanding officer.
** TheLancer: Karen, the most experienced pilot, and much more pragmatic than Shiro.
** TheBigGuy: Sanders, the second most experienced pilot, physically largest member of the team, and usually carries TheSquad's {{BFG}}.
** TheSmartGuy: Eleodore, who doesn't get to pilot a mobile suit but acts as a sort of on-scene MissionControl.
** WhatExactlyIsHisJob: Michel is technically a CommunicationsOfficer but in practice he's Eleodore's goffer.
* ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamIronBloodedOrphans'':
** The main members of Tekkadan (minus [[TheHero Mikazuki]]).
*** TheLeader: Orga Itsuka, boss of Tekkadan.
*** TheLancer: Eugene Sevenstark, the Deputy Boss. Starts the series off with a chip on his shoulder about Orga displacing him as the Third Group's leader, but eventually grows into a capable second-in-command and confidant.
*** TheSmartGuy: Biscuit Griffon, staff officer and bureaucrat, as well as Orga's main advisor. There's also Yukinojo, Tekkadan's head mechanic.
*** TheBigGuy: Akihiro Altland and Norba Shino, Tekkadan's beefiest member and hand-to-hand combat specialist respectively.
** TheHeart: Atra Mixta, a kind-hearted girl who joined Tekkadan to act as their cook ([[SubordinateExcuse and to get closer to Mikazuki]]).
** There's also the Turbines.
*** TheLeader: Naze Turbine.
*** TheLancer: Amida Arca, Naze's right-hand woman and TopWife.
*** [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Girl]]: Eco Turbine, a skilled engineer who crews Naze's ship.
*** [[TheBigGuy The Big Girl]]: Azee Gurumin, the Turbines' cold, practical AcePilot.
*** TheHeart: Lafter Frankland, another Turbines' Ace and partner of Azee, as well as significantly more girly than her.
** The Arianrhod Fleet StandardEvilOrganizationSquad.
*** BigBad: Rustal Elion, supreme commander of the fleet.
*** TheDragon: Vidar, Rustal's top AcePilot.
*** EvilGenius: Yamazin Toka, the fleet's chief mechanic.
*** TheBrute: Iok Kujan. He's technically NumberTwo to Rustal, but his impulsive behavior and reckless tactics make him ill-suited for any other role.
*** DarkChick: Julieta Juris, another AcePilot loyal to Rustal and the resident PerkyFemaleMinion of the fleet (though she often has to play the straight woman to Iok's idiocy).
* ''Anime/{{Naruto}}'': The Sasuke Retrieval Team truly fits the Rag Tag Bunch of Misfits type; it was cobbled together from four different three man teams to make one five man team. Shikamaru [[TheLeader leads the team because he was the only Chunin]] and TheStrategist and brought along four people with unique fighting styles: [[{{Acrofatic}} Choji's meat tank]], [[TheBeastmaster Kiba's combos with Akamaru]], [[PressurePoint Neji's Gentle Fist]] and [[SelfDuplication Naruto's shadow clones]]. ThePlan was to work as a team but the Sound Four said YouShallNotPass one by one until [[TheRestShallPass they were all fighting alone.]]
* ''Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi'': Starts it off in the Kyoto Arc by combining the original BattleCouple-and-mentor of [[SquishyWizard Negi]] (TheLeader), [[ActionGirl Asuna]] (TheLancer) and [[EccentricMentor Chamo]] (TheMentor) with [[{{Samurai}} Setsuna]] (TheBigGal) and [[MindProbe Nodoka]] (TheSmartGal). The group evolves over the Mahora Festival to include several others. By the time the Magic World Arc begins, the Team has reached over 10 people in membership.
* ''Manga/OnePiece'': The team roles for the protagonist pirate crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, have changed a bit as new members have joined, but here's where the current roster of ten falls:
** TheLeader: [[RubberMan Monkey D. Luffy]], TheCaptain of the crew, as well as their best fighter.
** NumberTwo: [[BloodKnight Roronoa Zoro]] is Luffy's first mate and first recruit who serves as a BigBrotherMentor. He's also a MasterSwordsman.
** SupremeChef: Sanji joined as the crew's cook, and in battle he is a ChefOfIron who is also TheStrategist.
** GadgeteerGenius [[CowardlyLion Usopp]] ([[FriendlySniper the sharpshooter]]) can make lots of useful items, like Nami's Climate Tact and was also responsible for maintaining their ship, the Going Merry, until an actual carpenter (Franky) joined.
** TheMedic: Tony Tony Chopper is the crew's doctor. He is a TalkingAnimal who is very good with medicine, which enabled him to create his "rumble ball" and be a CombatMedic.
** TheEngineer: Franky is an actual carpenter and ship builder so he maintains the Thousand Sunny. As a Cybrorg, he is also really handy in a fight, and so he can also be TheBigGuy.
** SkeletalMusician: Brook is a musician, who plays music that is delightful to the ears (if he had any ears, hohoho!) Like Zoro, he is also really good with a sword and even hums while chopping up enemies.
** TheNavigator: Nami has also been the one using maps and the Grand Log to steer the crew towards the next island and their next adventure and her next chance at fabulous wealth. Interestingly, the Climate Tact she uses means she can change weather conditions in her immediate area.
** AdventureArchaeologist: Nico Robin is the most knowledgeable about history and historical ruins. She and Nami often serve as MsExposition.
** GentleGiant Jinbe, who previously served as an ally to Luffy during the Impel Down, Marineford, Fishman Island and Whole Cake Island arcs, finally joins the crew during Wano Country and begins serving as their [[BadassDriver helmsman]].
* ''[[Anime/RoninWarriors Ronin Warriors]]'': The team falls neatly into this:
** TheLeader: While they make decisions as a team, Ryo is the most prominent and gets the mid-season AllYourPowersCombined power-up.
** TheLancer: Seiji/Sage, the calmest and most clear-headed - a natural counter to Ryo's fiery impulsiveness.
** TheBigGuy: Shuu/Kento, the strongest by a wide margin and a BoisterousBruiser.
** TheSmartGuy: Touma/Rowen, the intellectual (CaptainObvious moments aside).
** TheHeart: Shin/Cye, the gentle and sensitive one who dislikes fighting.
** TeamMom: Nasté/Mia, who lacks any powers of her own but is a few years older than the boys and provides support, housing, and transportation.
** TagalongKid: Jun/Yuli, the powerless child tagging along after his parents vanished.
** TheSixthRanger: [[spoiler: Shuten Doji/Anubis, freed from the BigBad's influence and acting alongside the team in season 2.]]
* ''Manga/SailorMoon'': The Sailor Senshi.
** TheLeader: Usagi Tsukino / Sailor Moon, leader of the team.
** TheLancer: Rei Hino / Sailor Mars, Usagi's brash but close friend.
** TheSmartGuy: Ami Mizuno / Sailor Mercury, a prodigious schoolgirl who acts as the team's brains.
** TheBigGuy: Makoto Kino / Sailor Jupiter, a tall and brawny schoolgirl who's physically the strongest member of the team.
** TheHeart: Minako Aino / Sailor Venus, ditzy but kind-hearted and very capable. Technically she's the NumberTwo to Usagi, but in terms of team dynamics she acts as the team's heart.
* ''Manga/SoulEater'': There is a complicated example. Maka's Resonance Link team consists of herself (TheLeader), Black Star (TheBigGuy), and Death the Kid (TheSmartGuy). However, there are also their weapons, that all have their own roles. Soul is Maka's scythe, and is TheLancer. Tsubaki is Black Star's sword, and is TheHeart. Liz and Patty are Kid's guns, and are TheHeart and the CuteAndPsycho one, respectively.
* ''Anime/YuGiOh'': Although the primary characters largely maintain their team roles throughout the series, the first season (Duelist Kingdom) is where those dynamics most visibly fall into traditional archetypes.
** TheLeader: Yugi Muto. Protagonist and classic reluctant hero archetype. The shortest member of the group and most socially awkward, but virtually unbeatable at Duel Monsters (learned from his grandfather). Values his friendships more than anything else and has an almost comically forgiving nature, even to his enemies.
** TheLancer: Katsuya Jonouchi. Yugi's best friend and {{foil}}, both in appearance and personality: Significantly taller and stronger, plus more outgoing with an irreverent sense of humor. Also tends to rely more strength and direct attacks while dueling than Yugi’s strategy-based approach, at least at first.
** TheSmartGuy: Ryou Bakura. A classmate and the most quiet/unassuming. Like Yugi, he possesses a Millenium item, but the ancient spirit inside his treasure is far from benevolent. As such, he tends to approach situations more logically and delicately than anyone else, for fear that the spirit could take over.
** TheBigGuy: Hiroto Honda. The only non-duelist in the initial group (though he does have a small collection of cards). An old friend of Jonouchi’s, he takes the latter’s aggressive, impulsive tendencies and cranks them up. As the biggest and strongest member, he can handle physical challenges no one else can.
** TheHeart: Anzu Masaki. A beginning duelist with a cheerful, sometimes naive personality, but whose tongue can be sharper than a razor when she's angry. Functions as the moral and emotional center of the group, forever encouraging her friends and keeping them grounded when things get stressful and/or crazy.
** TheSixthRanger: Mai Kujaku. Introduced as a materialistic FemmeFatale type, but who experiences significant character growth over the course of the season. A highly skilled duelist in her own right, she becomes an unofficial member of the group and maintains a friendly rivalry with them as the series progresses.
* ''Anime/YuGiOh5Ds'': Has Team 5D's, which consists of seven members. It has also the team with highest number of named members, as most teams have only three.
** TheLeader[=/=]GadgeteerGenius: Yusei, who is the leader of the team and the Last Wheeler who brings the victories thanks to his skills and strategies and ThePowerOfFriendship. He and Bruno also work on the D-Wheels.
** TheLancer: Jack, who is the First Wheeler and uses brute force to overpower the opponents.
** TheBigGuy[=/=]TheSmartGuy: Crow, the Second Wheeler of the the team. TheTrickster who relies on several combos to balance his lack of having a Signer Dragon with a SuperMode like Yusei and Jack. He's also the third-best duelist of the team.
** TheBenchwarmer: Aki, the Benchwarmer. If one of the guys above cannot duel for whatever reason, she would duel in their place.
** TagTeamTwins: Luca and Lua, the Pitcrew Twins who are together for most of the time and mostly support the team at the pit. They duel mostly together. Unlike Luca, Lua is not a Signer until the last arc of the series, but he gets more screentime than her.
** SixthRanger[=/=]GadgeteerGenius: Bruno, the mechanic who works in the pitcrew and improves the D-Wheels together with Yusei. He later turns out to be the Mysterious D-Wheeler dubbed Dark Glass who then turns out to be a friend and agent of the BigBad Z-One. However, Bruno stays loyal to the team and invokes MentorOccupationalHazard.

%%%%* ''[[Manga/BoboboboBobobo BoboboboBobobo]]'': Bo-bobo's gang grows as the series goes on until it composes the following members.

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* ''Fanfic/AbraxasHrodvitnon'': The (surviving) members of the Team from ''Film/GodzillaKingOfTheMonsters2019'' (see below) return, and they have some new additions during the events of the story:
** TheMedic: Elle Brody from ''Film/Godzilla2014'' has joined Monarch as a medic after the events of 2019.
** TeamDad: Dr. Brooks is still in charge of the outpost monitoring the reborn Mothra, and he's implied to be something of a surrogate father-esque figure to the Chens and the Russells, not least Mark.
** TeamMemberInTheAdaptation: Ren Serizawa becomes a direct ally to the Team, [[spoiler:and later he's their [[TheMole mole]] in Apex Cybernetics]] instead of a genuine villain like in ''Film/GodzillaVsKong''.
* ''Fanfic/FalloutEquestria'': Littlepip has a dorky charisma and is talented at bringing out the best, and worst, in people. Calamity is forthright and honourable. Velvet Remedy is a mare who ''prefers'' not to use violence, and looks for the best in all beings, while [=SteelHooves=] is the most capable fighter and wearing PowerArmor on a [[spoiler:(necessarily)]] consistent basis. The Balefire Phoenix, Pyrelight, is incredibly dangerous in the right circumstances, but otherwise just pretty and radioactive. Xenith joins late, but still fits well with the team, filling in skill areas like stealth and close quarters combat.

[[folder:Films -- Animation]]
* ''WesternAnimation/AtlantisTheLostEmpire'': The crack team of experts recruited to find the lost city. [[spoiler:Although they fracture partway through due to competing agendas and HeelFaceTurns, the roles are all filled.]]
** TheLeader: Lyle Tiberius Rourke. Commander of the expedition and superficially friendly and reasonable- for a military type, anyway. Although fully devoted to the expedition, his motives are ultimately revealed to be quite different than he first let on, and he descends into territory that wouldn't be out of place in [[Franchise/IndianaJones Indiana Jones]].
** TheLancer: Helga Sinclair. Lieutenant and second-in-command. Normally a no-nonsense type, she plays up the personality of the FemmeFatale or the Blonde Bombshell when it suits her purposes. Although not truly romantic in any sense, she eventually becomes the embodiment of the phrase "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."
** TheSmartGuy:
*** Gaetan Molière. Geology and excavation specialist, ComicRelief, and very awkward to have as a roommate. Definitely a PunnyName, as his short stocky frame, high-tech glasses, and obsession with dirt makes him strongly resemble a mole. Thinks he's a [[TheCasanova ladies's man]], which [[CasanovaWannabe does not end well]].
*** Audrey Ramirez. TeenGenius, WrenchWench, and company [[TheEngineer engineer]]. The smallest member of the team but arguably has the biggest personality: Occasionally comes across as a SpicyLatina, given her frequent tongue lashings and calling people out on wrong or stupid behavior.
** TheBigGuy:
*** Joshua Sweet. Medical officer and big in the literal sense, as he towers over the rest of the crew. Son of an African-American father and a Native-American mother, his medical training includes an early form of chiropractics (learned from the Arapaho) and he's normally very genial and easy-going.
*** Vincenzo "Vinny" Santorini. Explosives expert, convicted felon, and big in the metaphorical sense (i.e. his speciality is literally blowing things up). Not exactly a DeadpanSnarker but tends to observe the world with a dry, detached wit. Apparently loves his work but has a secret passion to open a flower shop.
** CoolOldLady: Wilhelmina Packard, the crew's [[CommunicationsOfficer radio operator]]. A chain smoker, DeadpanSnarker, and unconventional in all kinds of ways: Sleeps in the nude (and sleepwalks); is usually laid back to a degree that she can't be bothered with anything (even actual battles and disasters); and has no qualms about saying what's on her mind.
** TheTeamBenefactor: Preston B. Whitmore. CoolOldGuy, EccentricMillionaire, and Sinclair's employer. Apparently he finances the expedition due to losing a bet with the protagonist's grandfather years earlier, but seems enthusiastic to do it anyway. Arguably plays up the eccentric more than the millionaire and is generally loveable.
** TheHeart: Milo James Thatch. TheHero protagonist and a CunningLinguist who understand the written Atlantean language (something the Atlanteans themselves have lost the ability to do over the millenia). Looks like - and in many ways is - a stereotypical nerd, but definitely no slouch when it comes to courage and dedication.
* ''WesternAnimation/ChickenRun'': The primary chickens of Tweedy's Farm, whose overarching goal is to get themselves and all their fellow fowl out of their oppressive environment and to freedom.
** TheLeader: Ginger. Identified as such by Mr. Tweedy and the one responsible for planning the escape attempts.
** TheLancer: Rocky. Recruited (on mistaken conceptions) to train the chickens for escape. Later becomes a love interest.
** [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Girl]]: Mac. Skilled in mathematics and engineering, with some medical knowledge. Brings Ginger's plans to life.
** [[TheBigGuy The Big Girl]]: Bunty. The physically strongest with a blunt and opinionated tongue. Also the most prolific egg-layer.
** GirlyGirl: Babs. The most overtly feminine and very ditzy. Almost always seen with a pair of knitting needles.
** TheMentor: Fowler. RAF veteran (which he constantly boasts about) who fills an overseer-type role for the chickens.
* ''WesternAnimation/InsideOut'': Riley's emotions are sort of a team. They're all part of the same person, after all.
** TheLeader: Joy dominates most of Riley's memories and spearheads headquarter operations.
** TheLancer:
*** Sadness is TheEeyore to Joy's [[ThePollyanna Pollyanna]].
*** Disgust is a cynical NumberTwo to Joy's upbeat optimism.
** TheSmartGuy: Fear does research about things to be cautious of as Riley approaches new situations.
** TheBigGuy: Anger is stout, aggressive, and [[AngstNuke has an weaponized ability in his hotheadedness]].
** TheHeart: Sadness is the least active of the emotions, but is the most empathetic.
** SixthRanger: [[ImaginaryFriend Bing Bong]] is the only main character who isn't a core emotion, a late comer in the story, and [[SirNotAppearingInThisTrailer intentionally left out of promotional materials for maximum shock value]].

* ''Film/GodzillaKingOfTheMonsters2019'': The top brass of the {{Kaiju}}-studying government organization [[Characters/MonsterVerseMonarch Monarch]], plus the non-Monarch guy they bring along for the ride. And then there's also the top brass's military G-Team.
** CommunicationsOfficer: Dr. Rick Stanton, whose job is tracking the Titans around the world with bio-acoustics, often from a desk or console. He also subtly functions as TheMedic when he patches up Griffin at the end, and he's one of the PluckyComicRelief (see below).
** TheLeader / TeamDad: Dr. Ishirō Serizawa is the ''de facto'' leader who everyone else defers to, [[spoiler:and everyone reacts with devastation to his passing]].
** LonerTurnedFriend / NaiveNewcomer / TeamPrimaDonna: Mark Russell. He's recruited at the movie's start to help the rest of the team despite his highly unfriendly and self-righteous attitude over the fact they won't kill his AnimalNemesis. His obnoxiousness decreases after the movie's HalfwayPlotSwitch.
** NumberTwo: Dr. Vivienne Graham of course, as Serizawa's right hand and protege, [[spoiler:until she's killed off early on]].
** PluckyComicRelief:
*** Dr. Rick Stanton among the main scientists, being a source of humor with his witty one-liners, sarcastic personality and implied alcoholism.
*** Jackson Barnes among the G-Team, being the one who has the most lines short of Foster and in turn has the most humor.
** TheEngineer / TheSocialExpert: Sam Coleman is the director of all Monarch's technology, and he's ''supposedly'' their most social liaison (you wouldn't think it if you saw him tripping over his own words in the film).
** TokenReligiousTeammate: Anthony Martinez, one of the distinct G-Team members, crosses himself, and he's confirmed to be pious in the novelization.
%%%* ''Film/GleahanAndTheKnavesOfIndustry:'' Gleahan, Mark, Madison, and later [[spoiler:Penelope and Derek.]]
%%** TheLeader: Gleahan, hands down.
%%** TheLancer: Mark
%%** TheSixthRanger: Penelope.
* ''Film/HowToTrainOurDragon'': The Li older sisters form a neat Five-Woman Band.
** TheLeader: Li Huang-Ling, the scary, goddess-like eldest sister and leader of the five sisters.
** TheLancer: Li Ya-Ling, the sexy and domineering second oldest and second-in-command of the sisters who serves as the dean of Kuang-Lung's school.
** TheSmartGirl: Li Hsuan-Ling, the middle sister who's a computer whiz and expert hacker.
** TheBigGirl: Li Chin-Ling, the tough and athletic second youngest sister who's an expert shot with a bow and arrow.
** TheHeart: Li Hsiang-Ling, the cutesy and caring youngest sister who's in charge of feeding Kuang-Lung his meals each day.
* ''Film/{{Inception}}'': Extractions have to be done by a team because there are different roles involved.
** TheLeader: Dom is the Extractor, who leads the operation and [[TheFace does the talking]]. He is the one pulling out information, or in this case, the one planting it.
** TheLancer: Arthur is the Point Man, Dom's longtime partner and foil. In charge of doing the research, he's smart enough to figure out how to simulate falling in zero gravity.
** TheSmartGuy: Yusuf is the Chemist, who mixes the phlebotium that allows The Team to reach the third level. Really the one true Smart Guy by way of HollywoodScience and never getting to shine in a fight scene.
** TheBigGuy: Eames is the Forger, possessing the ability to copy someone's appearance in a dream world. He also has a grenade launcher because he knows he importance of dreaming big.
** TheHeart: Ariadne is the Architect, and was recruited to construct the dreamworld that The Team would use. A newcomer to the extraction business, and an emotional sounding board for Dom's personal problems.
** TheSixthRanger: Saito is the Tourist, a CEO who twisted Cobb's arm into doing this in the first place. Under normal circumstances he wouldn't even be there, but he is and plays a significant role.
* ''Film/TheLordOfTheRings'': The Fellowship of the Ring was formed for the purpose of destroying the [[ArtifactOfDoom One Ring]] by going into the deepest parts of Mordor and casting it into the volcanic fires of Mount Doom, where it was originally forged.
** TheMentor / TheSmartGuy: Gandalf carries millennia of wisdom underneath his foppish yet fashionable hat. While he occasionally comes off as the GrumpyOldMan, his insight and ability to see the big picture ultimately play a key role in the Fellowship’s success.
** TheLeader: Aragorn is the classic ReluctantRuler; heir to a long and storied lineage but hesitant to take up that responsibility. While noted for his warrior skills, his true strength as a leader ultimately comes through in his willingness to always do right, no matter the cost.
** TheLancer: Legolas is Aragorn's most trusted confidant and the MasterArcher to his [[SwordsAreHeroic sword wielder]]. While the two occasionally disagree, they both deeply believe in the Fellowship's mission and respect the knowledge and skills that each brings to the group.
** TheBigGuy: Gimli and Boromir are the Fellowship's powerhouses, wielding an array of battle axes and a heavy sword & shield combo, respectively. While not full-on ComicRelief, they can also bring lightness and humor to the group, especially when the situation seems dull or grim.
** [[TagalongKid The Tagalong Kid]]: Pippin and Merry join the Fellowship on an enthusiastic whim, without much real understanding. While they initially lack combat experience, both eventually display a sort of SimpleMindedWisdom that allows them to see how high the stakes and potential consequences truly are.
** TheHeart: Sam and Frodo are not only the emotional pivots around which the Fellowship revolves, they are emotionally indispensable to each other. When the Fellowship splinters, they struggle but ultimately succeed in keeping each other safe and sane until the very end.
* ''Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse'': Agent Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. had an idea to build a team of extraordinary individuals who could fight the battles humanity couldn't face on its own. Although that team did not fully materialize until ''Film/TheAvengers2012'', its members were scouted out over the preceding years, and the team continued to grow as global threats became ever more pervasive. The initial group of consisted of six members:
** TheLeader: Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, is selected to lead the Avengers because of his battlefield experience, great charisma, and historic importance (he successfully [[Film/CaptainAmericaTheFirstAvenger led]] the Howling Commandos - a kind of proto-Avengers team - in [=WWII=]). Possesses a deep sense of morality that refuses to be influenced by outside forces, and fully willing to go against authority if it means doing the right thing.
** TheLancer: Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron man, is TheTeamBenefactor; a billionaire tech-genius who, in his own words, "pays for everything, designs everything, and makes everyone look cool". More worldly and cynical than Captain America, the two frequently disagree over how to approach threats, and at one point openly [[Film/CaptainAmericaCivilWar clash]] over how much power and influence the Avengers should have in world affairs.
** TheSmartGuy: Dr. Bruce Banner is an expert on gamma radiation and one of the most intelligent people on the planet. Initially recruited solely for that expertise, he helps to solve scientific problems few others can tackle. As a result of previous exposure to extreme levels of gamma radiation, he can also become a back-up [[TheBigGuy Big Guy]] (and a GeniusBruiser [[Film/AvengersEndgame later on]]) by turning into the titanic, muscle-bound Hulk.
** TheBigGuy: Thor Odinson is a ProudWarriorRaceGuy - and literally the Old Norse god of thunder - so he can handle the biggest physical threats; from facing giant monsters in single combat to taking on armies of smaller ones. While most often called upon simply to hit things, he can also be highly strategic and insightful, and his generally upbeat personality occasionally plays into the role of ComicRelief (sometimes unintentionally).
** ActionGirl: Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow, is a top-notch spy, martial artist, and former assassin. Outside of combat, her role is primarily to ferret information from the enemy DecoyDamsel style. Because of her dark and bloody past she can come off as something of an IceQueen, but is show to care deeply for her teammates and considers them a [[FoundFamily found family]]. She helps to manage the often volatile Hulk with friendship and compassion.
** TheHeart: Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, is an expert archer who packs an arsenal of high-tech arrows. In battle he works as the team's TargetSpotter, while using his own ImprobableAimingSkills for strategic strikes. As the only initial member with a family actively in the picture, it's often joked that he truly keeps the team together, and fans have observed that his absence from the action typically doesn't bode well in the long run.
** A second major team within the franchise can be seen in ''Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy2014'' and [[Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol2 its sequel]]. The initial lineup of this team is more complex, with two {{Big Guy}}s, and three {{Foil}}s alternately serving as TheLancer as the situation may warrant.
*** TheLeader: Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, is the formal leader and the only actual human among the group [[spoiler:(though the [[Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol2 sequel]] partially subverts this)]]. Relying more on gadgets and weaponry than raw skill, he is also headstrong and responsible for forming plans (or 12% of them, anyway).
*** TheLancer: Rocket displays the [[{{Foil}} most cynicism and reluctance to follow Star-Lord]]; Drax's literal mindedness is a [[{{Foil}} counterpoint to Star-Lord's wit and metaphors]]; Gamora's [[{{Foil}} pragmatism contrasts Star-Lord's jokey and well-meaning antics,]] but they both have good hearts.
*** TheSmartGuy: Rocket is a genetically-enhanced raccoon (though he HATES being called one) and GadgeteerGenius who makes many devices, from planet-destroying bombs and weapons to A/V systems so they can play some nice battle music. He also briefly acted as TheLeader in the first film's [[GreatEscape prison break scene]].
*** TheBigGuy: Groot is a [[DoAnythingRobot living, sentient tree]] and GentleGiant; a ''beast'' in combat but also has many useful flora abilities, from extended reach and bioluminescent pods to wooden shielding. Also fills the role of TheHeart as the most compassionate of the team and generally only gets aggressive when necessary. Drax the Destroyer is a BoisterousBruiser and far more fight-happy in contrast to Groot. As his name and personality implies, he has elements of ProudWarriorRaceGuy, and his main reason for fighting is to avenge the slaughter of his family and people.
*** ActionGirl: Nebula is Gamora's "adoptive" sister and much more angry/aggressive on a regular basis. While they are certainly strong rivals in the beginning, later on Nebula admits her pain at their conflicts and softens a little bit. Becomes a member of the Guardians and ally of the Avengers following the events of ''[[Film/AvengersInfinityWar Infinity War]]''.
* ''Film/MysteryMen'': Part of the plot is building a team that can infiltrate Casanova Frankenstein's mansion and rescue Captain Amazing (they hold try-outs and everything):
** TheLeader: The Shoveler gives the RousingSpeech. Interestingly, when he says "Leadership, it's what we've been missing." He looks at Mr. Furious as if disappointed that he didn't live up to this role.
** TheLancer: While Mr. Furious doesn't fit this archetype perfectly, he is the one who most often clashes with the established approaches and methods, especially if they don't seem practical to him.
** TheSmartGuy:
*** The Blue Raja with his vast array of specialized forks and well-researched back story.
*** Dr. Heller made their gear and their transport.
** TheBigGuy:
*** Spleen's gas attack is 'silent but deadly'.
*** Dr. Heller has an arsenal of non-lethal weaponry
*** The Bowler's bowling ball is like a guided missile and returns when she throws it.
*** When Mr. Furious is truly angry, he's a good fighter.
** TheHeart: Invisible Boy's biggest contribution to the team is his [[TheFace networking skills]] and idealism: "I know lots of super heroes."
** TheMentor: The Sphinx trained them all.
* ''Film/RobinHood2010'':
** TheLeader: Robin Longstride. The head of his small band of comrades, who served King Richard the Lionheart on the Third Crusade. Plainspoken yet clever, he quietly removes his group from the army following Richard's death during a siege, and sets them on a mission to fulfill the dying wish of a fellow soldier.
** TheLancer: Will Scarlet. A skilled archer like Robin but mostly contrasts him as a more gregarious and fun-loving member of the band. Lacks the stoicism and planning skills of his comrade and seems to operate more on whim and emotion. Thinks he's something of a Ladies' Man and loves to party.
** TheSmartGuy: Alan-a-Dale. While a skilled soldier, his real talent is as a troubadour. Capable of memorizing great reams of songs and poetry, he can also come up with his own verses and provides his own musical accompaniment. Provides the mood at both isolated campsites and in boisterous taverns.
** TheBigGuy: The ironically-named Little John. Easily the tallest and strongest of Robin's band, he wields a battle ax more often than a bow or a sword. Has some of Will's "party animal" and womanizing tendencies, not as eloquent/intellectual as Alan, and occasionally displays Robin-like moments of stoicism.
** ActionGirl: Unlike some of her previous incarnations, Maid Marion is shown to be highly capable on the battlefield, bringing weapon use and leadership ability to go along with her sharp tongue and no-nonsense attitude. Also capable of managing a 5000 acre estate with a comparatively small staff.
** TheSixthRanger: Friar Tuck. A humble man of the church whose unassuming demeanor conceals an iron will. Joining the band partway through the story, he brews his own mead, has a bawdy sense of humor, and is not afraid to go against his ecclesiastical superiors if it means helping people.
* ''Film/StarTrek2009'': The crew of the ''Enterprise''
** TheLeader: James Tiberius Kirk. He's the main focus of the plot, which follows him from birth to becoming captain of the ''Enterprise'' by the film's end.
** TheLancer: Mr. Spock and Dr. Leonard [=McCoy=] are both Kirk's close friends; Spock is logical and calculating and [=McCoy=] serious and cynical, while Kirk is more laid-back and risk-taking.
** TheSmartGuy: Collectively filled by three crew members:
*** As a Vulcan, Spock views everything through the prism of logic and makes the most informed decisions.
*** Pavel Chekov is the crew's [[TheNavigator navigator]] and a TeenGenius, who creates the plan to disguise the ''Enterprise'' to ambush the ''Narada''.
*** Montgomery "Scotty" Scott is TheEngineer; a GadgeteerGenius and MrFixit. Also TheSixthRanger who joins much later than the rest.
** TheBigGuy: Hikaru Sulu is the [[BadassDriver helmsman]] of the ''Enterprise'' and the best in a fight, trained in hand-to-hand combat and fencing with a collapsible blade (similar to a samurai katana).
** CunningLinguist: Lt. Uhura specializes in xenolinguistics and serves as the Enterprise's communications officer. Also a love interest for Spock.
* ''Franchise/StarWars'': The team here is basically the crew of the ''Millenium Falcon''.
** TheApprentice: Luke Skywalker is here to learn from Obi-wan and help him on his mission.
** TheLeader: Obi-wan Kenobi, who trains Luke in the ways of the Force, and is the one who hires Han and Chewbecca to take them to Alderaan.
** TheDriver: Han Solo, the pilot of the ''Falcon'' who is also the skeptic and [[TheGunslinger trusts his skills with a blaster]]. Both of these traits contrast his employer, who finds blasters to be "uncivilized".
** TheBigGuy: Chewbacca, who is the largest (7'6') and strongest of the group, who wields the heaviest weapons.
** TheCracker: R2-D2, who serves as the group's computer hacker.
** CunningLinguist: C-3PO is fluent in over six million forms of communication and is also a TranslatorBuddy to R2. Also the NonActionGuy and CowardlySidekick who has no skills in combat and prefers to be away from the action.
** TheHeart: Princess Leia, who serves as the group's heart and social influence. [[ActionGirl She can also help with a blaster]].
* ''Film/TheThreeMusketeers2011'':
** TheLeader: Athos. The veteran operator burned by betrayal and jaded by political maneuvering. Initially displays a depressive streak before rediscovering a cause worth fighting for.
** TheLancer: D'Artagnan. The starry-eyed ingenue raised on tales of Musketeer greatness, who's youthful enthusiasm and cockiness is needed to reinvigorate the others' fighting spirits.
** TheSmartGuy: Aramis. Quiet and introspective. A former priest who understands the pros and cons of both the sword and cassock. Combat style defined by stealth and precision.
** TheBigGuy: Porthos. The jovial bruiser who towers over most men and has a keen eye for food, fashion, and women. Can send an enemy running just by unsheathing a few inches of his sword.
** TheHeart: Constance. The royal insider/love interest. Not one to be taken in by pretty words, she gives as good as she gets and convinces the men to see the bigger picture.
** TheSixthRanger: Planchet. A manservant notably lacking in many areas. Doesn't get much respect from the "alphas", but takes it with good humor and still plays a key part in the critical mission.
* ''Film/WonderWoman'': The mission to defeat Ares and put a stop to [[UsefulNotes/WorldWarI World War I]] brings together an [[RagtagBunchOfMisfits eccentric and unlikely group]] from all walks of life.
** TheLeader: Steve Trevor. Pilot and spy who crashes on the Amazon homeland of Themyscira and largely sets the plot in motion. An archetypal everyman and man-of-the-world, he understands that life is rarely perfect and sometimes sacrifices must be made, but is still determined to do good for others.
** TheLancer: Diana of Themyscria (a.k.a. "Diana Prince''). Princess of the Amazons and trained to be their greatest warrior. She starts out with an innocent and idealistic view of the world before learning some hard lessons. Despite her demoralization, she retains her strong beliefs in compassion and love.
** TheSmartGuy: Sameer. Top-notch undercover specialist, aspiring actor, and - at least in his own mind - a ladies man. He [[{{Omniglot}} speaks multiple languages]], enjoys giving his undercover personas elaborate backstories, and understands that everyone in this war must fight battles in their own way.
** TheBigGuy: The Chief. Physically towering but generally quiet explosives expert who's also handy with a gun and a tomahawk. Somewhat jaded by the past sufferings of his people, he smuggled goods and supplies to both sides in the war and only gets fully involved when the gravity of the mission becomes apparent.
** TheHeart: Charlie. Expert sharpshooter with a highly jovial personality (sometimes bordering on "puppy-ish"). Not the best in a fistfight - and can flake when push comes to shove - but has a voice of gold; his singing and musical talents serve as a reminder to the group of life's simple pleasures beyond the battlefield.
* ''Film/XMenFirstClass'': The titular first class forms a team in the second half of the film.
** TheLeader: Charles Xavier (a.k.a. Professor X). Brought the team together and serves as TheHeart, opting for tolerance, understanding, and coexistence with the non-mutant population.
** TheLancer: Erik Lehnsherr (a.k.a. Magneto). The Holocaust survivor made cynical and hardened by personal experience. Xavier's vengeful {{foil}} who believes in mutant superiority.
** TheSmartGuy: Hank [=McCoy=] (a.k.a. Beast). The GeniusBruiser who designed the team's CoolPlane and uniforms. Highly agile and can hold his own in a fistfight with most opponents.
** TheBigGuy:
*** Alex Summers (a.k.a Havok). Has the most destructive powers - can literally shoot giant plasma lasers out of his body. Something of a hothead who clashes with the more docile Hank.
*** Sean Cassidy (a.k.a. Banshee). His sonic powers can be almost as physically destructive as Havok. They also allow him to fly and serve as [[SensorCharacter sonar underwater]].
** TheSneakyGuy: Raven Darkholme (a.k.a. Mystique). A shapeshifter who can expertly mimic appearances. Arguably the most morally complex character, with sympathies to both Xavier's and Lehnsherr's worldviews.
%%* ''Film/GleahanAndTheKnavesOfIndustry'': Gleahan, Mark, Madison, and later [[spoiler:Penelope and Derek.]]
%%** TheLeader: Gleahan, hands down. He's the only one with a sword, after all!
%%** TheLancer: Mark falls into this role as he gets to know Gleahan.
%%** TheSixthRanger: [[spoiler:Penelope.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
* ''Literature/TheBridgeOfClay'': The five Dunbar brothers. Growing up on their own, they solve their problems together and on their own.
** TheLeader: [[{{Narrator}} Matthew]], the oldest, looking after the rest of his brothers and earning money to support them.
** TheLancer: Henry, smart, sarcastic, from a very young age involved in money-making schemes.
** TheBigGuy: Rory. Although physically not bigger than his brothers, he ''loves'' brawling, is suspended several times and finally drops out of school at the earliest possible moment.
** TheSmartGuy: Clay. Intelligent, masters bridge-building just by reading several books, loves stories.
** TheHeart: Tommy. The youngest of the brothers, loves animals (and later becomes a social worker).
* ''Literature/CatchingFire'': The group of allies that forms in the arena largely fills the traditional team roles.
** TheLeader: Katniss Everdeen. While she is not initially keen on taking any allies, once they gather around her she leads them through the early part of the games and constantly looks out for them. [[spoiler:Although she doesn’t learn it until the end of the novel, her allies were all part of an elaborate plan to keep her safe and break her out of the arena, so she could serve as the figurehead of a long-planned rebellion against the government.]]
** TheLancer: Finnick Odair. The first tribute to ally with Katniss, he’s a highly skilled fighter and backup [[TheBigGuy Big Guy]]. The two frequently rely on each other for information and to keep the group safe.
** [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Ones]]: Wiress and Beetee. She quickly figures out how the traps/obstacles in the arena work, and he formulates an elaborate plate to remove the last competitors towards the end.
** [[TheBigGuy The Big Girl]]. Johanna Mason. Snarky, hostile, and fiercely skilled at killing. While she does have a softer side and damage in her backstory, going toe-to-toe with her is a dangerous idea.
** TheHeart: Peeta Mellark and Mags. Katniss’ entire mission in the arena is to keep Peeta alive, and the others contribute to this as well. Mags even sacrifices herself to do so, causing much grief.
* ''Literature/HarryPotterAndTheOrderOfThePhoenix'': The impromptu rescue squad that Harry assembles to retrieve his godfather Sirius Black from (what he believes is) captivity at the Ministry of Magic by Lord Voldemort.
** TheLeader: Harry Potter (DUH!). In typical, and arguably full Gryffindor, fashion, he wants to rush to the Ministry - hundreds of miles away, with no clear plan or mode of transportation - and ignores pleas for rational thought. Does deserve some slack, though, as even the thought of losing Sirius drives him mad with fear.
** TheLancer: Ron Weasely. As Harry's longtime best friend, this role is a given, but even he seems reluctant to indulge Harry's blind panic that they need to get to the Ministry ASAP without bothering to form a rescue plan. Sticks by Harry's side, as usual, and ends up providing some perverse comic relief during the battle.
** TheSmartGuy: Hermione Granger. Already well-established as the smart one of the group by this stage, she tries to make Harry see the logical fallacies in his rush to storm the Ministry. Eventually goes along with everything but still has the most strategic approach to the search and ensuing battle against the Death Eaters.
** TheBigGuy: Neville Longbottom. Under Harry's tutelage, Neville had shown immense improvement in his combat skills over the previous months, and threw himself into battle with (sometimes reckless) abandon. Also shown to be very tough, as his fighting spirit never wavered even as he was injured and cursed, winding up being the only one of the group left standing aside from Harry when the Order of the Phoenix [[BigDamnHeroes arrives]].
** ActionGirl: Ginny Weasley. Although her future romance with Harry had not quite budded at this stage, Ginny supported his mission to rescue Sirius from the start. She cleverly figured out a way for him to get some details first (which he actually heeded), and her powerful spellcasting was nothing to sneeze at.
** TheSixthRanger: Luna Lovegood. The only non-Gryffindor on the team and a new addition to the friend group, her out-of-the-box thinking is what enables them to get to the Ministry in the first place (no one else could ever have through of riding thestrals - black, skeletal winged horses - as a viable option).
* ''Literature/KingsOfTheWyld'': Centers around the exploits of Saga, a mercenary band. Not only do the characters work more or less like classic RPG archetypes (warrior, rogue, mage), but each character is also assigned a role in a metaphorical rock band. They all rely on each other for both physical and moral support.
* ''Literature/LogHorizon'': Teamwork is crucial in Elder Tales. Shiroe, a enchanter, has abilites that weaken enemies and support allies but even at his high level his attack power is weak. Naotsugu is a guardian and so his abilities are based on defending allies. Both of them can only turly shine when they work in a team.
* ''Literature/JourneyToChaos'': Dragon's Lair mercenary teams are composed of four members: A tank fighter to draw attention, a battle mage for artilery support, a healer for buffs and health, and a MagicKnight as a back up for all roles.
* ''Literature/MissPrince'': Contains, in essence, the genderflip of the FiveManBand in the form of Rent-A-Legend. There are 5 females, 1 male and all of the former are [[ActionGirl Action Girls]] with the exception of TheProtagonist, Lucinda:
** TheFace: Lucinda is much better as a actor and [[GuileHero talker]] but she has action moments too, such as where she defends Erlina, the fairy princess, from a town mob.
** TheLeader: Sara. Rent-A-Legend is her company and she runs the desk more as a [[NonActionGuy businesswoman]] than as a fighter. Occasionally she does go out in the field when the situation mandates.
** There are two [[TheBigGuy Big Guys]] although in two very different disciplines:
** The LightningBruiser, Freya, is a [[{{Youkai}} Yuki-onna]] with a lot of skill in hand-to-hand martial arts.
** The BoisterousBruiser valkyrie Gerda, on the other hand, has a large collection of swords in the form of the Rent-A-Legend armory and fights dangerous monsters. She also [[{{Mentors}} teaches]] Lucinda sword-fighting.
** TheHero: Charming. The dirigible fansquee from the original family. Sara's go-to hero, who fulfilled that role before he went missing, he's really good at the task as a whole. \\
Add two supporting characters and you get:
** TheSmartGuy: Rosie. This witch scientist has been researching vampirism, the cause and cure of it. She soon employs Erlina and teaches Lucinda about potions and how to brew them.
** TokenReligiousTeammate: Johann. He provides help, advice and god's advocacy to Rent-A-Legend whilst trying to live a very non-vampirific lifestyle with girlfriend Rosie.

* ''Series/Akumaizer3'': The titular trio and their allies.
** TheLeader: Xavitan, leader of the trio.
** TheLancer: Evil, foppish sharpshooter and Xavitan's right-hand man.
** TheBigGuy: Gabra, a bulky, dimwitted but friendly water demon who wields a mace on a flail.
** TheSmartGuy: Ippei Shima, an IntrepidReporter who helps the Akumaizer 3 by gathering information.
** TheHeart: Jun Nagisa, Ippei's fellow reporter and the most emotionally mindful of the group.
** SixthRanger: Darunia, who effectively becomes the Akumaizer 3's unofficial fourth member after defecting.
** TagalongKid: Mitsuhiko, Ippei's kid brother.
* ''Series/{{Bones}}'': The core forensics and investigative team of the Jeffersonian Institute (not counting the rotating cast of "squint-erns", though they often have significant storylines in their own right):
** TheLeader: Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan. Lead forensic anthropologist and top in her field. Introduced as a classic InsufferableGenius with authoritative opinions and limited understanding of or even patience for social conventions. Becomes more open/stable over time without losing any personality.
** TheLancer: Dr. Camille Saroyan. Lead pathologist who sometimes clashes with Brennan and other team members over the viability/legitimacy of their methods. Officially the head of the team but has admitted more than once that Brennan is the one who commands the real loyalties.
** TheSmartGuy: Dr. Jack Hodgins. Self-professed "bugs and slime guy". Has doctorates in entomology, botany, and mineralogy. Analyzes environmental elements for clues and generally the most cheerful/enthusiastic member of the team (sometimes a little too enthusiastic).
** TheBigGuy: Special Agent Seeley Booth. FBI liaison with the forensics team and generally the strong, stoic type. Former military sniper who's often baffled by the team's detached intellectualism, but brings a down-to-earth realism (and occasional humor) to each investigation.
** TheHeart: Angela Montenegro. Snarky artist and computer genius who specializes in facial reconstruction and virtual scenario recreation. Has the highest EQ and often walks the scientists of the team (especially her best friend Brennan) through "normal" social situations.
** TheSixthRanger: Dr. Lance Sweets. FBI psychologist introduced in Season 3 who consults with friends and families of victims, as well as counseling members of the team and the Bureau at large. Often written off for his youth but ultimately leaves massive and unexpected impacts on all of them by the end.
* ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'': The Scoobies are the town's defense against supernatural nasties. This is the initial team:
** TheLeader: Buffy is the Slayer (a.k.a. TheChosenOne).
** TheMentor: Giles serves as Buffy's Watcher and advises the group on their actions.
** TheSmartGirl: Willow starts out as a geeky, computer savvy type who then gains magic power and doubles as TheBigGirl.
** TheHeart: Xander...tries to be helpful; eventually he becomes the conscience for all the Potentials.
*** The First Evil assembles one (consisting of characters from its Wishverse-inspired "pet" universe) in the game ''Chaos Bleeds''. Members include Adam, Kakistos, Ripper (Evil Giles), Anyanka and Vampire Tara.
* ''Series/ChouseishinSeries'':
** ''Series/GenseishinJustiriser'':
*** TheLeader: Shouta Date / Riser Glen, TheFace of the team and the one who leads them on the field.
*** TheLancer: Yuka Sanada/ Riser Kageri, Shouta's {{tsundere}} classmate and responsible {{foil}}.
*** TheSmartGuy: Shinya Hiraga / Riser Gant, a genius university student studying robotics and [[TheStrategist the one who formulates the team's battle plans]].
*** TheBigGuy: Reika Motomiya, a BadassNormal trained in physical combat and Mio's bodyguard.
*** TheHeart: Mio Tendo, a [[TheOjou polite, refined, caring young woman]] who holds the Justi Crystal and wants to aid the Justirisers in any way she can.
*** SixthRanger: Shiro Jinno / Demon Knight, a former enemy of the Justirisers who joins them midway through after snapping out of his brainwashing.
** ''Series/ChouseiKantaiSazerX'': Sazer-X
*** TheHero: Takuto Ando / Lio-Sazer, the HotBlooded face of Sazer-X.
*** TheLancer: Ad / Eagle-Sazer, the NumberTwo of the team and Takuto's [[TheSpock pragmatic]] foil.
*** TheSmartGuy: Kane Lucano / Beetle-Sazer, the team's technical genius and mechanic.
*** TheBigGuy: Gordo / Gordo-Sazer, Ad's co-pilot who fights by swinging a big mace.
*** TheHeart: Remy Freede, Takuto's co-pilot and the most mindful and warm-hearted Sazer-X member.
*** SixthRanger and TheMentor: Commander Shark / Shark-Sazer, the [[TheLeader leader]] of the team and the one who recruited all of the other members.
** Also in ''Sazer-X'', Neo Descal forms a villainous variant in the second arc.
*** BigBad: Garade, commander of the Neo Descal forces.
*** TheDragon: Grouza, Garade's second-in-command and advisor.
*** EvilGenius: Wind Shogun Cyclead, a gifted inventor and technician.
*** TheBrute: Jackall, a vicious fighter and EvilCounterpart to Sazer-X dead set on his vendetta against Shark.
*** DarkChick: Water Shogun Aqual, the most vain and arrogant member of the fleet.
* ''Series/CriminalMinds'': Like most long-running crime dramas, the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) has a rotating cast of archetypal character roles. While some are largely permanent presences, others stay around for more limited periods and/or reappear in later seasons. Each character is here identified with their most closely associated role, although their part in the team’s dynamics can and often has changed over time.
** TheLeader: Aaron Hotchner, a.k.a. “Hotch”. Perpetually grim-faced but a classy dresser, devoted yet flawed family man, and willing to do anything to ensure the safety of his team. Cross him at your peril.
** TheLancer: Emily Prentiss. Omniglot daughter of a diplomat and something of a lone she-wolf. Struggles with relationships and social skills, can be very blunt and snarky, and is unyielding in loyalty.
** TheSmartGuy. Dr. Spencer Reid, a.k.a. “Spence”. A wunderkind on the autism spectrum, with the looks of a male model yet the fashion sense of a preppy schoolboy. The biggest brain of the bunch.
** TheBigGuy: Derek Morgan. Classic LovableJock who always gets attention from the ladies. Typically the Yang to Reid’s Yin, he specializes in combat, quippy remarks, and kicking down doors.
** TeamMom: Jennifer Jereau, a.k.a. “JJ”. Media liaison for the team and initially is the only member besides Hotch who actually is a parent. Able to balance family life and a chaotic work schedule better than any other character.
** TheMentor: David Rossi. Founding member of the BAU, with a marital history as convoluted as any in Hollywood. Sometimes has shades of the GrumpyOldMan (usually in a funny way) or CoolUncle.
** TheHeart: Penelope Garcia: Technical analyst and possibly the most dangerous woman on the planet with a computer. A bubbly GirlyGirl 95% of the time, she’s another one you don’t want to make angry.
* ''Series/{{Dexter}}'': Miami's Metro Homicide is obviously people who work together.
** TheLeader: Surprisingly, it's not DaChief, but [[TwoferTokenMinority Lt. Maria LaGuerta.]] Yes, she's incredibly manipulative, but we can all agree that the department would fall apart without her.
** TheLancer: Debra, but it's downplayed, having the 'opposite of the leader' part but not the 'second in command' part. In fact, [[TheLeader Maria]] hates her, but she's smart and has excellent detective skills, so that's why she's still around, and she's still an incredibly important team member.
** [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Guys]]: [[VillainProtagonist The title character, Dexter Morgan]], is a TokenEvilTeammate as well as one of the two smart guys. Naturally, he doesn't work with them on his "Code of Harry" stuff but he's a good co-worker otherwise.
*** [[LovableSexManiac Vince Masuka]] is our resident ButtMonkey, as well as the other smart guy.
%%%%%%%%% Lacing context.
%%%** Angel Batista is both TheBigGuy and a straight [[TheLancer Lancer.]]
%%%%%%%%%%%% We're looking for Teamwork-roles, not Narrative-roles.
* ''Series/GameOfThrones'': The five Stark siblings, with Jon Snow in a [[TheSixthRanger Sixth Ranger]]-style role, both play into and subvert the typical team dynamics. While they never all operate as one unit due to plot mechanics, the "wolf pack" - i.e. teamwork - mentality is a constantly recurring theme in their storylines, and over the course of the series they do largely align with the typical roles seen in a team environment.
** TheLeader: Robb. The eldest son and presumptive heir to the family seat of Winterfell. In early seasons, his skill in combat and other traditionally masculine areas grant him victories and largely make him out to be a traditional [[TheHero hero]]. However, he remains relatively naive about the larger political circumstances of his actions and the larger world he is operating in, which ultimately leads to his downfall.
** TheLancer: Sansa. The eldest daughter and whose arc is very much a foil to Robb's. She starts off as a naive [[GirlyGirl "girly-girl"]] type and isn't expected to play an active role in the larger conflicts. Despite being frequently written off for these traits, she is ultimately able to internalize many essential political lessons, then leverage them into stable and lasting power, becoming a leader in her own right.
** TheSmartGuy: Bran. The "big picture" guy; his magical abilities allow him to see everything that has occurred in the past and everything that is occurring in the present. An early assassination attempt left him unable to walk - and, by extension, fight - but he can mentally control the bodies of others and see/feel as they do. [[spoiler: Revealed to be THE key player and becomes something of a PhilosopherKing in the end]].
** TheBigGuy: Arya. Despite her small size she is definitely the fiercest sibling, both in terms of personality and combat skill. Having mastered multiple weapons, as well as the in-universe equivalents of espionage and assassination, she has little patience for the political maneuvering that consumes so many other characters and typically solves problems by stabbing (though she can also be very sweet).
** TheBabyOfTheBunch: Rickon. Literally and figuratively, as he's the youngest and most innocent, as well as the one that his elder siblings most often try to protect. While his overall effect on the plot is fairly minimal, his innocence is ultimately exploited by the Starks' enemy. Although this leads to his tragic fate and the fates of of many others, it's also the catalyst that sets the final victory of the series in motion.
** TheHeart: Jon Snow. The (purported) bastard half-sibling with a melancholy air. Although largely removed from most of the early plotlines, from the very beginning he serves as an unyielding moral compass in an otherwise [[GreyAndGreyMorality grey world]]. When circumstances later require it, he steps firmly into the leadership role and pulls the hardest of hard carries to give all people a fighting chance against the true enemy.
* ''Series/{{Ghostwriter}}'': The Ghostwriter Team.
** BigGood: Ghostwriter: He's the whole reason the team exists.
** TheHero / TheLeader: Jamal. First person to see Ghostwriter and the de facto leader of the Ghostwriter Team. Often the OnlySaneMan who makes decisions for the group.
** TheLancer: Lenni. The second person to see Ghostwriter and Jamal's implied NumberTwo. She's headstrong and outspoken, while he's more grounded and practical.
** TheBigGuy: Alex. A jock who puts himself at risk the most, as shown in "Ghost Story" and "Over a Barrel". After his growth spurt, he towers over the others.
** TheHeart: Gaby. She seems to be the emotional center of the group, especially when she saves Ghostwriter with [[spoiler:ThePowerOfLove]].
** TheSmartGuy: All the team members are smart, but mainly Jamal (the best with science and computers), Alex (the expert on all things related to detective work), and Tina (she thinks outside the box the most).
** SixthRanger: Tina, Rob, Hector, and Casey. They all join the team later, in episodes 8, 17, 50, and 58 respectively.
** TagalongKid: Casey, the youngest team member. Gaby was this at first but [[CharacterDevelopment grows out of it.]]
** GuestStarPartyMember: Craig in "Who Burned Mr. Brinker's Store?", Frank, Catherine, and Lucy in "Just in Time", Becky and Sam in "A Crime of Two Cities". They're all technically members because they can see Ghostwriter and have helped solve cases, but they all only appear for one mystery arc.
* ''Franchise/KamenRider''
** ''Series/KamenRiderWizard'':
*** TheLeader: Haruto Soma / Kamen Rider Wizard, the face of the team and the one who all the other members gather behind.
*** TheLancer: Rinko Daimon, a no-nonsense policewoman and one of Haruto's closest allies.
*** TheSmartGuy: Wajima, who crafts the [[TransformationTrinket Wizard Rings]] that Haruto uses.
*** TheBigGuy: Kousuke Nitoh / Kamen Rider Beast, the team's only other fighter besides Haruto.
*** TheHeart: Koyomi, a kind MacguffinGirl and Haruto's closest friend who aids him with her premonitions.
** ''Series/KamenRiderExAid'': CR once they recruit enough Riders.
*** TheHero: Emu Hojo / Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, the face of the team.
*** TheLancer: Hiiro Kagami / Kamen Rider Brave, the Secondary Rider and Emu's stoic and uptight foil.
*** TheSmartGuy: [[spoiler:Kuroto Dan / Kamen Rider Genm, who uses his so-called "godly talents" to program new powerups for CR.]]
*** TheBigGuy: Taiga Hanaya / Kamen Rider Snipe, who makes the most use of power-focused attacks.
*** TheHeart: Poppy Pipopapo / Kamen Rider Poppy, who flips between being a compassionate, down-to-Earth nurse and a bubbly video game GenkiGirl depending on what persona she's in.
*** SixthRanger: Kiriya Kujo / Kamen Rider Lazer, who joins the team [[spoiler:after he's revived]].
*** TagalongKid: Nico Saiba / Ride-Player Nico. She's not actually a kid, but she's younger and much more childish than the rest of the team.
** ''Series/KamenRiderBuild'': Team Build
*** TheLeader: Sento Kiryu / Kamen Rider Build, an eccentric genius who generally acts as the face and leader of the team.
*** TheLancer: Ryuga Banjo / Kamen Rider Cross-Z, Sento's gruff, BookDumb foil and closest ally, as well as the secondary Rider of the series.
*** TheSmartGirl: Sawa Takigawa, a reporter assisting the team with her adeptitude at researching and gathering information.
*** TheBigGuy: Kazumi Sawatari / Kamen Rider Grease. While he lacks Sento's ability to create new upgrades and Ryuga's ever-increasing Hazard Level, he's an incredibly strong fighter on his own who primarily makes use of physical, close-quarters attacks.
*** TheHeart: Misora Isurugi, a net idol who, while aloof at times, is for the most part the one who provides the rest of the team with emotional counsel.
*** SixthRanger: Gentoku Himuro / Kamen Rider Rogue, who spends the first half of the season opposing the team before joining them after regaining his sanity and being freed from his ExplosiveLeash, hoping to atone for everything he's done.
** ''Series/KamenRiderSaber'': The team Touma Kamiyama forms [[spoiler:after leaving Sword of Logos.]]
*** TheLeader: Touma Kamiyama / Kamen Rider Saber, who formed the team and acts as its face.
*** TheLancer: Yuri / Kamen Rider Saikou, the first Rider to join Touma who also has a more aloof personality on account of [[FishOutOfTemporalWater having been sealed for so long]].
*** TheSmartGuy: Tetsuo Daishinji / Kamen Rider Slash, a blacksmith responsible for the upkeep of the sacred swords who knows quite a bit about them.
*** TheBigGuy: Ryo Ogami / Kamen Rider Buster, an experienced warrior who wields a {{BFS}} and makes use of strength-focused attacks.
*** TheHeart: Mei Sudo, who's not a Rider but a close friend of Touma's and the cheerful moral center of the team.
*** SixthRanger: Rintaro Shindo / Kamen Rider Blades, once he snaps out of his moral dilemma. Followed by the Shindai siblings and [[spoiler:Kento Fukamiya / Kamen Rider Espada]].
*** EleventhHourRanger: Ren Akamichi / Kamen Rider Kenzan, who joins the team just in time for the final battle, and Sophia, who [[spoiler:becomes Kamen Rider Calibur to also participate in it.]]
* ''Series/LegendsOfTomorrow'':
** Season 1
*** TheLeader: Rip Hunter, the one who assembles the team.
*** {{The Lancer}}s: Ray Palmer, Leonard Snart, and Sara Lance take turns. If Rip has to appoint anyone in charge in times he has to leave the three, it's either of those three. They are also the ones who consistently challenge Rip's leadership. [[spoiler:Once Mick returns to the team after being BainwashedAndCrazy as Chronos, he also joins the "Rip leadership questioning club".]]
*** {{The Big Guy}}s: Firestorm, Mick Rory, Sara Lance, and Carter Hall are the group's go-to guys when it comes to fighting.
*** {{The Smart Guy}}s: Gideon is the team's information specialist, being an AI and all. Ray Palmer and Martin Stein are premiere scientists. Jefferson Jackson is the team's resident mechanic. For history specialists, Carter Hall is the group's expert regarding the past while Rip is the expert regarding the future.
* ''Series/{{Leverage}}'': As a [[TheCaper caper]] series, it naturally has the main characters as a team with well-defined roles. Although, as seasons progress, many try their hand in different roles:
** TheLeader: Nate Ford is the one who typically plans out and coordinates the week's caper. He's also frequently plays a role in convincing the mark.
** ClassyCatBurglar: [[OnlyOneName Parker]], despite her [[NoSocialSkills lack of social skills]], is occasionally sent into to work the mark and actually does well (when she's not stabbing a guy with a fork for touching her).
** TheSmartGuy: Alec Hardison provides all the team's equipment, and does the hacking and research. He also absolutely loves to act the part of a ConMan (he can also paint and do a mean violin solo).
** TheBigGuy: Eliot Spencer. No equal to him in battle... or in the kitchen.
* ''Series/{{NCIS}}'': Over the course of the series, the team archetypes of the primary group have stayed relatively constant, though different characters have filled them as the group has rotated its members (with some members filling multiple roles). They are presented here in their original roles and/or the ones they are most famously associated with:
** TheLeader:
*** Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Former Marine sniper and a man of VERY few words. A workaholic with a rebel streak, but usually in the interest of getting the job done and genuinely helping people.
*** Alden Parker. Took over the role largely by happenstance, but with Gibbs' blessing. Much more worldly and tech savier that his predecessor but seems to come from similar circumstances.
** TheLancer:
*** Anthony Dinozzo. Veteran law enforcement officer and Class Clown. Frequent victim of Gibbs' patented head-slaps but just as often called upon to step up and carry the team.
** TheSmartGuy:
*** Timothy [=McGee=]. Textbook techie with degrees in biomedical engineering and computer forensics. An avid gamer and fanboy who can hack into virtually any system without detection.
*** Eleanor Bishop. Former NSA analyst with the ability to discern patterns and motives from clusters of data. Looks like the pretty, blonde cheerleader but can handle herself very well in a fight.
*** Kasie Hines. Abby's successor as forensic scientist. Generally perky and upbeat with a distinct creative side, she has a number of emotional vulnerabilities stemming from her past.
** TheBigGuy:
*** Ziva David. Mossad liaison officer who later transitioned to full-time agent. Speaks ten languages, has a fetish for knives, and can kill with her bare hands as well as any gun.
*** Nick Torres. Longtime undercover specialist and something of a meathead. More cavalier and easygoing than his predecessor, though no less able when it comes to combat.
*** Clayton Reeves. Transfer from [[UsefulNotes/MI6 MI6]] who leans heavily into the Loner archetype (has appropriately tragic backstory to support it). Eventually opens up but his life is tragically cut short.
** TheHeart:
*** Abby Scuito. Brilliant forensic scientist and unofficial NCIS mascot. Known for her iconic goth aesthetic, bubbly personality, and utter devotion to her team. Definitely not someone to cross.
** TheMentor:
*** Donald "Ducky" Mallard. Medical Examiner with an endless well of stories from his youth as a traveler. His standard M.O. is to talk to his autopsy patients, which tends to reveal key insights.
** TheApprentice:
*** Jimmy Palmer. Dr. Mallard's eager young protege and later successor. Highly capable in his own right, he always brings a smile to grim days and becomes ever wiser as time passes.
** ActionGirl
*** Caitlin Todd. Former Secret Service agent with a particularly sharp tongue. She often rolls her eyes at the unconventional and/or potentially illegal actions of her mostly male colleagues.
* ''Series/SquidGame'': Gi-hun and several other players in the {{Deadly Game}}s eventually form one.
** TheLeader: Seong Gi-hun. While the team has no official leader, he's the one who gathered them and acts as their face, best emphasized when he's chosen to stand at the front during the tug-of-war contest.
** TheLancer: Kang Sae-byeok, who has an aloof personality and starts off hostile to the rest only to warm up over time.
** TheSmartGuy: Cho Sang-woo, a clever businessman who comes up with most of the team's strategies.
** TheBigGuy: Ali Abdul, a tough but kind factory worker with a tremendous amount of physical strength.
** TheHeart: Ji-yeong, a strange but compassionate girl who helps Sae-byeok to open up.
** TheMentor: Oh Il-nam, whose age and experience helps the team through several challenges.
** TheSixthRanger: Han Mi-nyeo and players 196, 244 and 276. The former inserted herself into the group after Deok-su kicked her out of his team for the tug-of-war game, and the latter three were just around to fill up the missing space.

[[folder:Tabletop Games]]
* All but the most dysfunctional adventure parties in every ''TabletopRPG''s have to find some means of working together. Everyone has their skills which they pool together to accomplish goals. ''Dungeons and Dragons'', for instance, will likely have combat-classes to handle melee and protect their squishier teammates, one caster class for healing and support, another caster for magic damage, a utility party member for sneaking around and spotting traps, and a party face for NPC interaction.
* ''TabletopGame/{{Eberron}}'': Per WordOfGod, the Five Nations were each designed to fill a traditonal party role. In fact, this is partly true in-universe, as when King Galifar first united the continent he emphasized each nation's individual strengths and identities. Karrnath became the source of military strength and soldiers (the fighter), Breland was the nation of espionage and trickery (the rouge), Thrane was the arm of the faithful (the paladin), Aundair was the source of arcane learning (the wizard), and Cyre was the leader and the innovator (the bard). When the Last War started and all Five Nations tried to claim the throne for themselves, they quickly found that [[CripplingOverspecialization they were much less capable of waging war without the help of the others than they thought]].
* Being a cooperative game, any battle in ''TabletopGame/SentinelsOfTheMultiverse'' comes down to a team effort among the players, who are each filling different rolls. Any game needs, at minimum, three heroes. InUniverse, there are four organized superhero teams as of [=OblivAeon=]:
** The Freedom Five: Legacy, Bunker, Wraith, Tachyon and Absolute Zero with Unity as their intern; in ''Sentinels Tactics'', Unity takes a spot on the team after Tachyon is killed.
** The Darkwatch: Nightmist, Expatriette, Setback, Mr. Fixer, and Harpy, a reformed Matriarch
** The Prime Wardens: The Argent Adept, Haka, Tempest, Fanatic, and Captain Cosmic
** The Southwest Sentinels also count, being four characters, though they're a single hero deck. They later reform as the Void Guard with individual decks.
** While the teams remain largely the same in ''Tactics'', there are some slight differences to the teams in the RPG.
** The Freedom Five disbands and forms the Sentinels of Freedom, an organization more focused on training the new generation of heroes. A new team named Daybreak forms, which includes Felicia Parsons as Legacy and Muse, a grown up Dreamer.
** The Prime Wardens disband, and among the first modules in the RPG is [[PuttingTheBandBackTogether reforming the team]].
** Another new team, The Paradigms, is formed by a reformed Revo-Corp and headlined by Unity and Benchmark.

* ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXII'' is basically what [[Film/ANewHope Star Wars]][[note]]Vaan = Luke, Ashe = Leia, Basch = Obi-Wan, Balthier = Han, Fran = Chewbacca, Penelo = C-3PO, Gabranth = Darth Vader[[/note]] would be like if Luke was just a random kid instead of TheChosenOne.
** TheLeader: Ashe, Basch, and Balthier all take turns in this role, but it seems to fall to Ashe most often as she's the princess of the kingdom and a leader in the rebellion.
** TheLancer: Again, Ashe, Basch, and Balthier all take turns but Basch fits the role the best as he's the [[TheMentor most experienced]] of the party and his cool demeanor contrasts Ashe's hotheaded-ness.
** TheBigGuy: Fran is the tallest character, and while she's not quite as strong as Basch she's still a formidable fighter. She's also the only one who canonically has magic.
** TheSmartGuy: Balthier is the most clever party member, and also an AcePilot.
** TheHeart: Penelo helps hold the team together. The only reason she comes along at all is to support Vaan.
** TagalongKid: Vaan starts off using his thieving skills, but that quickly fades. At one point, Balthier snarks about him being a tourist because he doesn't have a purpose on this journey. He is literally tagging along with the adults.
* ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIV'' being a MMO, it uses the cooperation of various Data Center (DC) players to form the team, sometimes some from other Data worlds may join in your fight too. Whether it's Black Mage, Healer or DPS and Tank.
** TheLeader: Anyone with the "L" attached to their name.
** TheLancer: Anyone without the "L" attached to their name who can fill in gaps in the party leader's knowledge.
** TheBigGuy: Tanks who are not the leader. Powerful physical damage dealers like Dragoons and Samurai qualify too.
** TheSmartGuy: Classes that rely heavily on mechanics prediction and encounter knowledge. Key examples include Black Mage and Scholar.
** CombatMedic: Healers.
** TheSneakyGuy: Ninjas, who can use Trick Attack to open up vulnerabilities for the whole party to exploit.
** UtilityPartyMember: Bards, Dancers and Red Mages. The former two have the most raid-wide buffs out of all the damage dealers while the latter is great at resurrecting fallen allies in a pinch.
* ''VideoGame/HeroesMustDie'' has Lord Murder's Dark Council
** TheLeader: [[BigBad LordMurder]]
** CoDragons: Grim and Storm, Murder's [[RedBaron Hero Killers]]
** MookLieutenant: [[FourStarBadass War]] The Minister of Defense, who commands the army.
** PropagandaMachine: Death, The Minister of Propaganda.
** TheTeamBenefactor: Taxes, The Minster of Finance who manages the money for the group.
* ''VideoGame/NintendoWars'':
** The Allied Nations [=COs=] in ''Dual Strike''.
*** TheLeader: Rachel, Orange Star CO and head of the Allied Nations.
*** TheLancer: Jake, Rachel's [[JiveTurkey jive-talking]] main assistant.
*** TheSmartGuy: Javier, a Green Earth knight and COM Tower expert.
*** TheBigGuy: Grimm, a boisterous former wrestler from Yellow Comet.
*** TheHeart: Sasha, a classy, strict but still caring Blue Moon CO.
** The 12th Battalion eventually develop into one in ''Days of Ruin''.
*** TheLeader: Captain Brenner at first, [[spoiler:and then Will after he dies]].
*** TheLancer: Lin, a ConsummateProfessional and strategist who acts as a pragmatic adviser to the leader of the 12th Battalion.
*** TheSmartGuy: Dr. Morris, not a commander but a doctor who assists the 12th Battalion with his medical counsel.
*** TheBigGuy: Split between ColdSniper Gage and fiery air combat expert Tasha.
*** TheChick: Isabella, a kind-hearted MysteriousWaif whom the 12th Battalion takes under their protection.
* '''Every''' one of the ''VideoGame/{{Suikoden}}'' games has it. OneHundredPercentCompletion requires having 108 characters on your team, a significant number of which are fighters, and using all their abilities to succeed in certain areas. Go ahead and try to divide them all up into classic character rolls.
* ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2''. It's right there in the title--teams that do not cooperate suffer crushing, embarrassing defeats against teams that actually use teamwork. RED and BLU teams are identical in composition, broken down into three sub-teams (offense, defense, and support) of three members each. The nine classes act as TheSquad and started as parodies of classic team compositions and character archetypes, but have become more nuanced by expanded game content and supplemental material. Their sheer diversity, colorfulness, and parodic nature makes it hard to pin down a precise team breakdown.
* ''VideoGame/TouhouProject'':
** ''VideoGame/TouhouKoumakyouTheEmbodimentOfScarletDevil'': The SDM staff.
*** TheLeader: Remilia Scarlet, head of the mansion.
*** TheLancer: Flandre Scarlet, Remilia's CuteAndPsycho younger sister.
*** TheSmartGirl: Patchouli Knowledge, the resident MagicLibrarian.
*** TheBigGirl: Hong Meiling, the GateGuardian.
*** TheHeart: Sakuya Izayoi, the head maid who takes care of the others and Remilia's NumberTwo.
*** TeamPet: Koakuma, Patchouli's familiar.
** ''VideoGame/TouhouYouyoumuPerfectCherryBlossom'': The circle that forms whenever Yukari and Yuyuko work together.
*** TheLeader: Yukari Yakumo.
*** TheLancer: Yuyuko Saigyouji.
*** TheSmartGirl: Ran Yakumo, Yukari's shikigami, on account of her math skills.
*** TheBigGirl: Youmu Konpaku, half-human soul gardener and samurai.
*** TheHeart: Chen, Ran's shikigami, with a dash of TeamPet.
** ''VideoGame/TouhouEiyashouImperishableNight'': The residents of Eientei.
*** TheLeader: Kaguya Houraisan.
*** TheLancer: Fujiwara no Mokou, at least when she isn't trying to kill Kaguya.
*** TheSmartGirl: Eirin Yagokoro, Kaguya's pharmacist, advisor and HyperCompetentSidekick.
*** TheBigGirl: Reisen Udongein Inaba, Kaguya's pet Lunar Rabbit and protector.
*** TheHeart: Tewi Inaba, the white rabbit of good fortune, even if she is a bit of a prankster.
** ''VideoGame/TouhouFuujinrokuMountainOfFaith'': The Moriya Shrine conspiracy and their associates at Youkai Mountain.
*** TheLeader: Kanako Yasaka, the public goddess of the shrine.
*** TheLancer: Suwako Moriya, Kanako's co-goddess and the shrine's original owner. Although she's technically co-leader and TheWomanBehindTheWoman to Kanako, she just lets Kanako be TheFace while she does the heavy lifting behind the scenes.
*** TheSmartGirl: Nitori Kawashiro, a Kappa engineering genius.
*** TheBigGirl: Momiji Inubashiri, captain of the Youkai Mountain guard.
*** TheHeart: Sanae Kochiya, maiden of the Moriya Shrine.
** ''VideoGame/TouhouChireidenSubterraneanAnimism'': The Underworld.
*** TheLeader: Satori Komeiji, mistress of the Palace of Earth Spirits.
*** TheLancer: Koishi Komeiji, Satori's younger sister.
*** TheSmartGirl: Utsuho "Okuu" Reiuji, given her [[GeniusDitz extensive knowledge of nuclear physics]], even if she's a [[DumbMuscle total birdbrain]] when it comes to everything else.
*** TheBigGirl: Yuugi Hoshiguma, a super strong oni who lives in the underworld.
*** TheHeart: Rin "Orin" Kaenbyou, Satori's energetic and caring pet [[{{Catgirl}} Kasha]].
** ''VideoGame/TouhouSeirensenUndefinedFantasticObject'': The Myouren Temple.
*** TheLeader: Byakuren Hijiri.
*** TheLancer: Shou Toramaru, Byakuren's top follower.
*** TheSmartGirl: Minamitsu Murasa, captain of the Palanquin Ship.
*** TheBigGirl: Unzan, an angry pink cloud that attacks by shape-shifting into giant fists.
*** TheHeart: Ichirin Kumoi. She was able to tame Unzan, after all.
*** SixthRanger: Nue Houjuu, who joins after showing up to mess with everyone.
** ''VideoGame/TouhouShinreibyouTenDesires'': The Taoist faction.
*** TheLeader: Toyosatomimi no Miko.
*** TheLancer: Mononobe no Futo, Miko's top follower.
*** TheSmartGirl: Seiga Kaku, Miko's hermit teacher.
*** TheBigGirl: Yoshika Miyako, Seiga's ChineseVampire bodyguard.
*** TheHeart: Soga no Tojiko. Nice, if quick to anger.
* ''VideoGame/WildArms3'': There's four of them and they travel together across the wasteland. TheHeart is also TheLeader, TheLancer is the ''actual'' [[TheHeart emotional center]], that TheBigGuy is the best mage in the party with the worst melee attacks, and TheSmartGuy is a MightyGlacier with a sniper rifle. It gets to where one suspects the party's design is an intentional instance of [[PlayingWithATrope playing with the usual personality-to-party-role stereotypes]] in your average RPG.
* ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft'': The Horde is an organization composed of races that fufill different roles for the sake of The Horde's goals. [[spoiler: Since Vol'jin is the new Warchief, it is unclear if Trolls and Orcs will switch roles, with Trolls being TheLeader and Orcs being TheLancer. Time will tell.]]
** Orcs are TheLeader.
** Trolls are TheLancer. Frequently TheSneakyGuy, along with the Forsaken.
** Tauren are often TheBigGuy, abeit of a GentleGiant variant. Sometime take the BigBrotherMentor role.
** The Forsaken, considering their aptitude for science and cunning, would be TheSmartGuy. Also the TokenEvilTeammate and TheSneakyGuy.
** The Blood Elves, ironically, could play TheHeart. They could also play TheSmartGuy considering their aptitude for advanced magic.
** Goblins are TheTeamBenefactor, since they supply a majority of the Horde's technology and weapon. They could also be TheSmartGuy, as they are one of the most technologically advanced races in Warcraft, being pretty skilled in alchemy, engineering and science in general.
** The Huojin Pandaren are TheSixthRanger.
* In ''VideoGame/GhostTrick'', there is the team that is fighting against the blue-faced people and the one known as The Manipulator.
** TheLeader: Sissel. He was technically forced into this role as he originally wanted to find answers to his own identity. However, he became genuine in helping out other people when they need help. He also has the most [[TimeMaster useful Ghost Trick ability in the game allowing saving everyone possible because of it]]. ** BigGood: [[MrExposition Ray.]] He is the one who teaches Sissel everything about the powers of the dead mainly how to use Ghost Tricks, how to go back into time, and how to travel around on the phone lines. [[spoiler: At the end of the game, he is revealed to be Missile-Prime who exists from a different timeline where Sissel refused to help him leading to a BadFuture. He tells a lie about the spirits disappearing for good at dawn in order to get Sissel to save those trapped in the submarine in time.]]
* ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaBreathOfTheWild'':
** The hierarchy and Hyrule sees Princess Zelda as the BigGood and official group leader with her father King Rhoam giving instructions from behind the scenes. Link is her dedicated Hero as the wielder of the Master Sword and the Champions serve as the EliteFour piloting the Divine Beasts and serving as extra firepower against Ganon.
** In the group's dynamics, Zelda is TheSmartGuy who is more focused on researching the Magitech, as well as cooking and chemistry, despite being the "commander" of the Champions. Link is her bodyguard and TheBigGuy / TheSixthRanger, having the most powerful weapon and being the last member to join. Revali is the rude {{Lancer}} and LongRangeFighter with his bow. Daruk is the headstrong but friendly unofficial {{Leader}} of the Champions, with elements of TheBigGuy. Urbosa is the CoolBigSis and LadyOfBlackMagic. Mipha is TheHeart and resident healer of the team.

* ''Webcomic/ElGoonishShive'': The eight main characters form one when they work together but aren't always seen together and are normally seen in two different groups according to what school they go to.
** Moperville North:
*** Elliot is the most traditionally heroic of the bunch and the closest thing the comic has to a main character.
*** Tedd is Elliot's best friend and the resident MadScientist who acts as TheSmartGuy for the whole group.
*** Sarah is Elliot's former girlfriend, TheTeamNormal who acts as TheHeart for the group.
*** Susan is Sarah's friend and the group's resident DeadpanSnarker who is much more serious compared to the others.
** Moperville South:
*** Ellen is Elliot's OppositeSexClone who, despite being similar to Elliot, is more HotBlooded and impulsive.
*** Nanase is Ellen's girlfriend, Elliot's former girlfriend, Tedd's cousin and TheAce of the group who acts as TheStraightMan to the group alongside Justin.
*** Justin is Nanase's friend who is very friendly and is TheStraightMan alongside Nanase.
*** Grace is Tedd's girlfriend who is the most innocent and bubbly member of the group and possibly the most powerful.
* ''Webcomic/GirlGenius'': Due to Agatha being a MagneticHero she has an ever evolving group of followers due to new ones showing up and others being PutOnABus at different times.
* ''Webcomic/M9Girls'': The eponymous M9 Girls are a [[SuperTeam super heroine team]] in training, besides being college friends.
** TheLeader: Any/Blue Destiny. She is also TheHero and TheHeart of the group, always looking for her friends and wanting to do the right thing.
** TheLancer: Pato/Purple Space is usually a foil to Any, being the [[OnlySaneMan Only Sane Woman]] of the group. Given her absorbing powers, she is also TheBigGuy of the group.
** PluckyComicRelief: Clau/White Energy. She is TheDitz and resident GenkiGirl of the team. Clau wears her emotions on her sleeve but most of the time she is optimistic and energetic.
** SixthRanger: Vero/Golden. Initially a friend of Karla, she joins the team [[spoiler: after becoming the DarkMagicalGirl]].
** TheMentor: [[TheProfessor Professor T.X.]] He is [[spoiler: a MadScientist who did a FaceHeelTurn]]. He is TheSmartGuy who gave the M9 Girls their powers, though he may not have her best interests in mind.

*** Omega Zell is TheLancer to Arthéon. [[spoiler:Ivy seems to naturally slip in the role in Season 5, both as the only other member consistently showing up and having a personality complementary to Sparadrap's]].
*** TheBigGuy (and usually tank) role has Arthéon, Nazetrîme during her brief tenure, then [[spoiler: Fantöm]] gets hired due to his capacity to fill the role (according to the webseries and novels) despite the opportunity to show it never coming up afterwards. [[spoiler:Sparadrap's warrior (Spärädräp) and Couette's earth build seem to be taking turns at the role in Season 5]].
*** TheSmartGuy (and usually the one who nukes), is shared by Gaea (mostly self-serving planning), Ivy (GadgeteerGenius), Arthéon due to his background knowledge and [[spoiler: Fantöm]] on select occasions. [[spoiler:Only Ivy remains in Season 5 and Gaea gets replaced by her archer reroll]].
*** TheHeart role is shared by Sparadrap and Couette, who are also both (sort of) TheMedic. [[spoiler:This is the only position that remains unchanged in Season 5.]]
*** TheSixthRanger is naturally Golgotha (who's technically more of a HonoraryTrueCompanion), the closest thing the team has to a second permanent big guy. Couette, qualifies also with her sporadic presence and Ystos is somewhere between this and BigBrotherMentor.
%%%** The Justice Guild main roster qualifies for the trope too:

* In ''LetsPlay/{{Dream}}'s'' "Minecraft Manhunt" videos, the hunters form one.
** Bad is TheLeader of the group, usually being the one to rally the hunters together and being the mastermind behind many of their attempts on Dream's life.
** Sapnap is TheLancer, being one of the core leaders of the group (but not quite on Bad's level) as well as being a direct contrast to Bad in tactics (Sapnap will rush Dream without a second thought while Bad will usually stay back and come up with a plan first). He's also TheBigGuy, being the group's muscle and the largest threat to Dream in direct combat.
** George is TheHeart of the group. Although he's the most overshadowed and overlooked in terms of skills, having no major niche to fill on the team (compared to Bad and Ant's cunning and Sapnap's brute force) and [[ButtMonkey being the most prone to falling for Dream's traps]], he still plays the much-needed support role for the team and they wouldn't be much without him.
** Ant proves himself to be TheSmartGuy, typically avoiding direct combat but coming up with plans to kill Dream like blowing up his Nether maze or igniting the TNT under the desert temple. He also proves himself willing to play the long game, splitting off from the hunters for twenty minutes of the "4 Hunters Finale" video in order to [[spoiler: provide the hunters diamond armor and an enchanting table, sacrificing the ability to kill Dream early for providing a much tougher fight later on]]. Considering his newer status in the group, he's also the SixthRanger.

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'': Team Avatar starts out as three kids and two animals traveling to the North Pole. Over the course of the series the roster expands and the immediate goals periodically change, but the roles are consistent and so is the overall mission.
** TheLeader: Aang is the Avatar; the one destined to bring balance to the world (literally his job description) and end a century-long war. Even finding out he's a GenocideSurvivor and the last living member of his culture doesn't diminish his fun-loving personality in the long term.
** TheLancer: Prince Zuko, the team's antagonist for most of the series, joins up in season three to become Aang's [[TheMentor firebending teacher]]. Also the Avatar's clearest {{foil}}, being generally hot-headed, stubborn, and not usually prone to laughter.
** TheSmartGuy: Sokka is "the idea guy" (Aang's words); he comes up with [[TheStrategist plans]] and is exceptionally clever with improvised tools. As the only non-bender in the initial team, he's skilled with multiple weapons, most iconically his treasured boomerang and later his sword.
** TheBigGuy: Toph Beifong, joining in the second season, is the BoisterousBruiser and PintSizedPowerhouse. As Aang's [[TheMentor earthbending teacher]], she's typically very blunt and snarky, and her teaching methods definitely underscore her mentality.
** TheHeart: Katara is Aang's [[TheMentor waterbending teacher]], whose methods and general personality emphasize friendship, group solidarity, and kindness. That being said, she definitely has a temper and rarely has qualms about holding her tongue.
** TheSneakyGuy: Suki, the leader of an all-female group of elite warriors, appears in the first and second seasons but doesn't become fully involved with the team until season three. A non-bender like Sokka, she is trained in weaponry, stealth, and hand-to-hand combat.
** SignatureTeamTransport: Appa, Aang's sky bison, carries everyone around and can act as GunshipRescue. Also like a BigFriendlyDog; his 10-ton weight and strong protective instincts make a powerful combination, but he's just as prone to pounce and lick in friendly greeting.
** TeamPet: Momo is Aang's rescue lemur. Despite being unable to communicate via speech, he displays a surprising amount of personality and comprehension. He's also unexpectedly tough for a little guy and has helped the team out in combat situations more than once.
* ''WesternAnimation/DeltaState'': Martin, Phillip, Claire and Luna all care about each other and when one of them is facing an issue, it affects them all greatly. This is shown by how they make sure to get involved in each other's lives, even if it is not Delta State related.
** An example of this is them all reassuring Phillip that he'll do great at his new job.
%%* Each animated adaption of ''Franchise/MyLittlePony'' has their own groups (except the first animated specials/TV series.)
%%** ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyTales'': Starlight, Sweetheart, Melody, Bright Eyes, Patch, Clover, and Bon Bon
%%** [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyG3 G3/3.5]]: Pinkie Pie, Scootaloo, Toola-Roola, Rainbow Dash, Sweetie Belle, Cheerilee, and Melody
%%** [[Franchise/MyLittlePonyGeneration4 G4]] [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic (Friendship is Magic)]]: Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Applejack, and Fluttershy.
* ''WesternAnimation/LegendOfKorra'': The sequel to ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'' keeps roughly the same roles as the original but significantly remixes the team dynamics (this is further complicated by the fact that several members were romantically involved with Korra at some point during the series):
** TheLeader: Avatar Korra is young, brash, and hot-headed (largely an inversion of her predecessor Aang). Heavily favoring the physical, combative aspects of bending over the spiritual and emotive aspects, her arc is largely about overcoming her personal issues and figuring out what role the Avatar should play in a more technology-driven and politically complicated world than Avatar Aang had to deal with.
** TheLancer:
*** Mako is an orphan who largely grew up on the streets and struggled to survive. While he's become a successful pro-athlete - and later a solid police officer/detective - his personality is more world-weary and cynical when compared to Korra's zest for life. Despite their differences, he trusts Korra explicitly and will go out of his way to support her goals.
*** Asami Sato is the daughter of an extremely wealthy industrialist and a stunningly pretty GirlyGirl compared to Korra's more {{Tomboy}} aesthetic. Despite her background, Asami is no snob and is openly generous to everyone. The only non-bender in the initial group, she also becomes Korra's most significant relationship, and the two form an official couple by series' end.
** TheSmartGuy: Asami is an amazingly clever engineer, having been raised amidst all the technological know-how of her father's company. She not only pilots a multitude of vehicles, she can repair them with ease, as well as design and build completely original ones. While she initially struggles to gain real-world business savvy, she ultimately continues to maintain the company's status as a lead innovator.
** TheBigGuy:
*** Bolin is Mako's younger brother and physical foil: An earthbender to Mako's firebender, he is shorter and broader with bigger muscles (earthbending is, by nature, much more physical). Bolin is also bigger emotionally; his displays of feeling tend to be more outsized and dramatic, sometimes bordering on straight-up hammy, which makes him a successful actor.
*** Asami's beauty and femininity belies her prowess as a fighter. Trained in self-defense since childhood, she's more than capable of holding her own in combat, and moves very gracefully while doing it. Her technological know-how also enables her to develop hidden weapons that can help to level the field if the opponent is larger and/or a bender.
*** Naga is Korra's domesticated Polar Bear Dog. While she occasionally serves as the SignatureTeamTransport, technology has advanced to an extent that beasts of burden have largely been phased out. Although highly affectionate, Naga can go straight-up feral when Korra or the team is threatened, and her size makes her a formidable opponent.
** TheHeart: Bolin, as the younger sibling, is more emotionally open than Mako, and tends to have a more positive outlook on life. He's good at reading emotional situations and knows when the team is out of sync. While his own relationship history is somewhat disastrous, he is a genuinely good person and arguably fits the so-called "himbo" archetype (i.e. attractive, friendly bordering on dim, and muscley).
** TheSixthRanger:
*** Opal Beifong is a young airbender that Korra takes under her wing and instructs in the basics of the art. Although she doesn't fully integrate into the team, as a member of the prominent Beifong family, her side plots often intersect with the team's, and her contributions are usually significant. She and Bolin also end up as a couple by the end, bringing her more into the fold.
*** In the final season, Mako works as a bodyguard for Prince (later King) Wu of the Earth Kingdom. The petulant heir to the throne hardly cuts a regal figure at first, but he learns quickly and actively tries to improve himself. While he never fully integrates into the group during the series, the comic continuation sees him taking his duties more seriously and working with the team on major issues.
** TeamPet: Pabu is a fire ferret rescued by Bolin and whose role is analogous to Momo in the original series. Communicating primarily through clicks and growls, he still has a fair amount of personality. A valued member of the team, Bolin completely adores Pabu and will go to great lengths to keep him safe. While Naga's first instinct upon meeting Pabu is to eat him, they eventually form a bond.
* ''WesternAnimation/MiraculousLadybug'' does this loosely in the episode Catalyst. Ladybug Plays the role of TheLeader, Rena Rouge and Carapace are TheSmartGuy and TheBigGuy respectively, while Queen Bee becomes TheLancer and Typical Lancer Cat Noir becomes TheHeart.
* ''WesternAnimation/ReadyJetGo'': The main characters together form Team Propulsion, who go on adventures on Earth and in space and stick together through thick and thin. It consists of Jet, who is naturally TheLeader. Sean is TheLancer whose nervous personality complements Jet's outgoing personality. Sydney is TheHeart, whose moral compass helps keep the team together. Mindy [[TheBabyOfTheBunch may be]] [[TagalongKid younger]], but is treated as an equal. Sunspot is the TeamPet who serves as the gang's loyal pet and mascot. Celery and Carrot are Jet's ever-supportive parents who serve as the kids' {{mentors}}, with the assistance of TokenRobot Face 9000.
* ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans'': Although this group does fill all the traditional roles of the Five-Man Band, the roles themselves are unusually flexible, with most being filled by two or more characters. Interestingly, when that is the case, the characters in question are often {{Foil}}s of each other, filling the same role but in different ways.
** TheLeader:
*** Robin is the BadassNormal of the group, relying on advanced martial arts skills and an arsenal of weaponry rather than "superpowers". The one who shouts "TITANS, GO!" before each engagement and plots the team's objectives (the latter to such an extent that the team sometimes struggles to form a cohesive plan in his absence). When someone else's ArchEnemy takes the limelight, he can double as either more of a SupportingLeader or fall to the role of [[TheLancer Lancer]].
** TheLancer:
*** Cyborg is Robin's most obvious physical opposite; taller vs. shorter and noticeably buff vs. noticeably skinny. He's also usually laid back when Robin is serious, serious when Robin is extreme, and takes over when Robin is absent.
*** Raven can fill the role occasionally, since her dark, often cynical attitude makes her a foil to the rest of the team's optimism and wacky antics. Conversely, she and Robin seem to relate to each other most on a deeply fundamental level, understanding the true seriousness of many situations in a way that the others rarely do.
** TheSmartGuy:
*** Cyborg is a GadgeteerGenius as well as GeniusBruiser. Aside from handling most computer and technology-related matters, he constructs many of the team's transportations and programs the Titan's Tower security systems.
*** Raven is very smart in the opposite way. As a LadyOfBlackMagic, she's well-versed in arcane lore and spirituality. An {{Omniglot}} and BadassBookworm, she's the most introspective of the team, and her smarts usually manifest in quiet ways.
** TheBigGuy:
*** Cyborg was a champion athlete prior to the accident that led him to becoming half robot. His musculature is still obvious under the mechanics, and he retains the athlete's fundamental trait of competitiveness, whether that's in beating his friends at video games, maxing out at the gym, or taking down strong bad guys.
*** Beast Boy is the team's PluckyComicRelief, going as far as to lampshade the trope. His shapeshifting ability also allows him to turn into a myriad of large, powerful animals (Tyrannosaurus Rex and other dinosaurs are favourites), and in such forms his combat technique is largely defined by hitting things harder than most of his teammates.
*** Starfire is the physically strongest member due to her alien physiology, capable of lifting immensely heavy loads with ease. She is also a ProudWarriorRaceGirl and approaches combat with a fierce vengeance, especially when angered.
** TheHeart:
*** Starfire's primary roles outside of combat are as Robin's love interest, a cheerful GirlyGirl {{Foil}} to Raven's seriousness, and a caring heart that helps maintain emotional stability. Everyone on the team largely gets along with Starfire and help her to understand human culture. She also adopts the TeamPet Silkie, a mutant silkworm.
** TheSixthRanger:
*** Terra joins the team with a similar skill set to Raven, specifically centered around rock, soil, and tectonics. Arguably something of a [[TheBigGuy Big Girl]] as well, due to her heavy-hitting ability, it's hard to pin down how she works within the team dynamic, because soon enough she's a SixthRangerTraitor. Eventually though, she does a HeelFaceTurn [[spoiler:and sacrifices herself to save the team]].
* ''WesternAnimation/VoltronLegendaryDefender'': Even though [[Anime/{{Voltron}} the original]] was one of the [[TropeCodifier Trope Codifiers]] for FiveManBand, this reboot doesn't follow exactly the same party dynamics for the robot lion crew.
** TheLeader: Shiro, who is also the TeamDad. [[LeaderFormsTheHead His lion forms the head]].
** TheLancer: Keith, who was the leader in the original, becomes the HotBlooded [[RedOniBlueOni Red Oni]] to Shiro's cool Blue Oni.
** TheBigGuy: Hunk, just like in the original. He's also less of a HotBlooded BoisterousBruiser in this adaptation.
** TheSmartGuy: Pidge, just like in the original, has a lot of intelligence.
** TheHeart: Lance, despite his name, is not TheLancer, but ends up becoming the emotional center of the team. He's also a bit of a ButtMonkey.

* The book ''Literature/InSearchOfExcellence'' tells how some companies, such as W. L. Gore, General Electric and 3M, often don't have regular assignments for some functions or projects. Instead, either people volunteer to be on a team, and the team members decide if they want to admit the person, or some projects are done by management selecting the necessary members, a manager, then creating an ''ad hoc'' team for the project, such as development of a new product, then once the project is finished, the team is dissolved and its members go on to other teams.

* ''LightNovel/LogHorizon'': Teamwork is crucial in Elder Tales. Shiroe, a enchanter, has abilites that weaken enemies and support allies but even at his high level his attack power is weak. Naotsugu is a guardian and so his abilities are based on defending allies. Both of them can only turly shine when they work in a team.
