Stuff I like:
I'm working on a Romance/
Slice of Life /
Dramedy comic. It's still in early development. I'm currently writing the script, tweaking the story to make it better and trying to tweak the character drawings so they look more like what they do in my mind. It's set in London (my home town so pretty much everywhere is real (it's in a place in Enfield called Arnos Grove) except for a few landmarks which I moved and the name of my old school which I changed to protect the innocent and the retarded), and it mainly centres around the lives of three teenagers at a public school. It mainly focuses on homosexual, male relationships, so if you don't like that then GTFO. Here are the tropes that apply to the characters and story:
Title Undecided
Characters:
Xander (Appearance: Tall, black shaggy hair, lean and a bit muscular, big, bright green eyes. Is fond of wearing dark blue jeans, navy blue/black shirts and black hoodies). (Full name: Alexander Graham Buck).
A young man who was found shot and beaten at the side of the motorway when he was 6, with no memory of what happened before then. He was raised in a boy's orphanage until he was 13. Violet's parents adopted him and the story takes off from there.
- Adult Child: His default personality seems to be this but he can be serious when the situation calls for it.
- Big Brother Instinct: Towards James, even though James is actually older (but not taller) than him.
- Bully Hunter
- Break The Cutie: It comes close to this but he's very good at getting over bad situations (and he's just too cute to break :3). So crisis averted I guess.
- Chick Magnet: Much to his delight and James's despair. Unfortunately for him you start to lose popularity once girls start thinking that you're gay.
- Determinator
- Deadly Doctor: Deadly slightly less in the sense of asskicking but more in the sense of being a doctor-in-training and not yet familiar with the 'be more gentle with people who have just been beaten up and have bruises and cuts all over their bodies' thing.
- Bi The Way / If Its You Its Okay: At first it's the latter, but later he realises that he probably is Bi.
- Seme: In a typical Yaoi comic, he would be, but this isn't your typical Yaoi comic. I tried to make this like a proper two male relationship so there's none of that Rape Is Love or steely-hard Seme and girly, overly-emotional Uke tripe. He's more like Luffy than Yuki too. Although he likes to think he's the Seme but James has none of it.
- Loss Of Identity: It isn't discussed much during the first part but his search for his biological mother and father (and of course, his identity) is the plot after the Time Skip.
- No Sense Of Personal Space: He's a big fan of glomping and getting a little too 'up close and personal' with people he really likes, which usually results in this:
Xander: *GLOMPS*
James: ARGH! GTFO!
- Obfuscating Stupidity: Mostly because he's Brilliant But Lazy, but also to lull other people into a false sense of security.
- Tall Dark And Handsome
- Tranquil Fury: Apparent in the scene where James is being beaten up by a gang of bullies. Xander walks up to them with a blank, calm look on his face, taps the leader (Arthur) on the back, and punches him so hard he falls over. He then tells the rest of the bully mooks to piss off, whilst looking something like this
.
James (Appearance: Short, shoulder-length white-blonde hair, grey eyes, skinny and wiry frame. Usually seen wearing an oversized grey hoodie and blue jeans) (Full name: James Oliver Cowan)
A quiet boy who is ostracised at school. He gets bullied a lot and wishes he could just... be invisible.
- Abusive Parents: His stepfather abuses him physically, mentally, emotionally and nearly allows his friends to sexually abuse him. It eventually comes to a stop after he hurls the poor boy down the stairs, actually stabs Xander and finally gets arrested.
- Break The Cutie: Happens continuously through the first part, he gets better... sort of.
- Bookworm: His favourite one is Watership Down.
- Dark And Troubled Past
- Girls Have Cooties: This is his only explanation when asked why he doesn't like girls.
- Hates Being Touched: A result of too much unwanted and unwarranted manhandling by his stepfather and his friends.
- He Man Woman Hater: He really doesn't like women.
- Heroic BSOD: Has many of these.
- Heroic Albino: Not a true albino, but close to it.
- Jerkass Facade: It's like a defence mechanism for him, he puts it up when he feels too vulnerable.
- Kuudere
- Peek A Bangs: Platinum blonde hair that covers his eyes and half of his nose. Note that this is not Blinding Bangs, he can easily see out of it and we can see his eyes... it's like how in anime you can sometimes see their eyes and eyebrows through their hair. :P Makes no sense but it's hella convenient. Also later on he changes his style - what the characters refer to as his "Sanji-hair" - to his hair only covering his left eye.
- Straight Gay: Apart from being short, blonde and cute. :3
- Street Urchin: He lived as one of these for a while after the situation with his stepfather became so bad that he had to run away. He nearly dies.
- The Woobie: *tear* *hugs*
- Wise Beyond Their Years: He comes off more as a world-weary 30 year old than a teenage boy. He's possibly the smartest main character too.
Violet Skinner (Appearance: Medium-tall height, long silky wavy brown hair, blue eyes, tomboyish clothing)
The daughter of the people who adopted Xander. Despite being raised by a rich, upper-class family, she has a filthy mind and is a big tomboy. She's a romantic at heart.
Arthur (Appearance: dark red hair, piercing green eyes, about the same size and bodily appearance as Xander. Sports chav-wear (jeans, hoodies, sports clothes) because it's the only thing his family can afford).
Bully
Jerkass who picks on James.
Name and appearance undecided as of now!
A person that apparently knows Arthur and has it in for James and Arthur.
Alice Skinner (Appearance: Similar to Violet, only older, with different hair, a slightly wrinkled face and glasses)
Violet's mother. A social worker who enjoys fostering children.
Christopher Skinner (Appearance: Tall, skinny arms and legs with a fat belly, thinning dark brown hair, hazel eyes).
Violet's father. A doctor. A homophobe.
Sarah Cowan (Appearance: A lot like James. Medium height, sandy blonde hair, grey eyes, quite prettyful).
James' half-sister.
- Yaoi Fangirl: One of the reasons she and Violet get on so well.
Oliver Cowan (appearance: A lot like James but with long dirty-blonde hair, Perma Stubble and glasses).
James' biological father.
Name change imminent (Appearance: Medium length sandy-blonde hair, icy blue eyes, tanned, petite figure, about the same height as James. Wears posh, vaguely slutty clothes)
Alice, Jade and Taco (Violet's Yaoi Fangirl friends)
Tari (Appearance; tall, black, lean, handsome)
Sium ('cause hey, I needed a punching bag other than James) (Appearance; Short, flabby, dark-skinned, glasses, short woolly hair, floppy lips (not racist, I just knew a guy who looks like this, I didn't like him much)
Lilia Buck (Appearance: Tall, elegant, with black hair and blue eyes. Very beautiful).
William Buck (Appearance: Bald, ice-blue eyes, white eyebrows. Always wears suits.)
Tropes that apply to the series as a whole:
- Angst: Pretty much everyone at some point. They're teenagers, what do you expect?
- Animal Motifs: Since I really like anthropomorphic animals (No Furry) you can expect this a lot in my works. I compare Xander to a dog or a small wolf, Violet to a cat and James to a hare or rabbit. Oh and Arthur to a fox. If we're talking Pokemon; Xander is a Marshtomp, Violet is a Persian, James is a Cubone and Arthur is a Jerkass... I mean Salamence...
- Crapsack World: In other words; the arsehole of London.
- Earn Your Happy Ending
- Heroic BSOD
- Ho Yay: Oh yeah~
- It Always Rains At Funerals: Averted I think. Oddly enough, I think a funeral on a clear day actually seems to make the death sadder. Plus... in the case of James... I think the rain of tears was enough...
- Homoerotic Dream
- Men Dont Cry: Avoided.
- Nakama
- Shout Out: To One Piece, Watership Down, TV Tropes and various other TV shows I like.
- Stupid Sexy Flanders: "Stupid sexy James...".
- Tear Jerker: It certainly makes me tear up, I only hope that it will have the same effect on the readers. I'm of the ilk that believe that it doesn't matter what kind of emotional trauma one puts their characters through, so long as they have a happy ending, it's okay. :)
- Three Amigos: Played almost completely straight until Arthur turns good.
- The Power Of Friendship
- Time Skip
OKAY! I'm thinking up a Pokemon story which is less my personal
Wish Fulfilment and more story based... stuff. It's based on the lesser-known Pokemon Colosseum for the Gamecube which I like because it's so different from the main Pokemon games and it's a bit gritty-er and harder than them. Knowing me it'll be kooky and fun and VIOLENT and fanservice-y. Here are the tropes:
Before I start I'm going to give a quick(ish) run-down of the games if you, readers are not familiar with them BUT are familiar with the other games, I'm not going to explain what a Pokemon is and what the games are all about so I will direct you over bleh —>
Pokemon.
Here's wassup:
Colosseum and
XD: Gale of Darkness (a.k.a just
XD) are set in Orre, a desert region to the far west of Johto (apparently). Unlike the other games, the main protagonists are already quite skilled trainers at the start of the games and already have their Pokemon (Espeon and Umbreon in Colosseum, Eevee in
XD), another big difference is that there are no gyms, no gym badges and no Elite 4, instead, your quest is to battle the evil Cipher and Team Snagem who have been turning Pokemon into heartless fighting machines called Shadow Pokemon. In both games you have to steal back the Pokemon from the bad guys by way of the Snag Machine, since it is impossible (I think so anyway) to steal a Pokemon from another trainer. The Colosseum part of Pokemon Colosseum doesn't... actually play that big of a role in the story, though fighting through 4 rounds in different colosseums is very fun and can land you monies and
T Ms.
Got that all down? Good, let us begin with the characters:
Characters
A former member of Team Snagem. Praised for his skills as a trainer, he was given the position of Head Snagger. When he learns about the Shadow Pokemon plan and the pain it causes the Pokemon and other people, he leaves Team Snagem and sets out to stop Cipher.
- Lovable Coward: ...Well... she's cute I'll give her that...
- The Scrappy: And you wonder why I'm putting her in? Well... My idea is to make her really cowardly, annoying and useless at first (y'know, like in the game) but then in the big fight vs Cipher Admin Ein; Wes is in the jaws of Raikou, half of their Pokemon are out of use, she gets the slipknot pigtail, she snaps and gets epicly dangerous.
Wes's Pokemon
Espeon
Wes's main attacker. Is skilled in telekinesis.
Umbreon
