- Strictly speaking, he did not create Doctor Who. It got created by a committee, but Newman offered heavy input into its creation, coming up with the idea of a mysterious character traveling in a time machine that was Bigger on the Inside. Very early in the series' run, Newman argued against introducing the Daleks, but threw up his hands and allowed their debut anyway because there was nothing to put in the serial's place; in later years, when the Daleks had cemented the show's reputation, he cited his opposition as one of his greatest mistakes.
