Adapted from a French cartoon called
Sonic le rebelle, this was the third
Sonic Animated Adaptation made. It was produced by
DIC Entertainment.
Sonic and his two siblings, Sonia and Manic, are left by the queen Aleena the Hedgehog as
Doorstop Babies to families, each of a different class. Eventually, they meet together when grown up, and guided by the Oracle of Delphius, they set out to thwart Robotnik, find their mother, and become rulers once more.
Widely panned among much of the fandom, although, like every show, it is not without its fans. The omission of many popular characters, such as Amy and Tails, proved fatal to the opinions of the fans, as well as the fact that the three siblings are
Musical Assassins, ruling with
The Power Of Rock. Each episode climaxed with a song performed by the triplets, which was the other bone of contention with the show.
This show provides examples of:
- Adaptation Decay (Oh yeah.)
- An Aesop
- Badass Mustache (Dr. Robotnik)
- Character Alignment (Defines each of the three hedgehogs. Sonic, in this show, is Neutral Good; Sonia is Lawful Good, and Manic is definitely Chaotic Good.)
- Cross Dressing Voices (Jaleel White as Sonia)
- Dishing Out Dirt (Manic, who can cause earthquakes)
- Doorstop Baby
- Ear Worm (The theme song.)
- Ensemble Darkhorse (Manic, to some. It's his fashion sense, I bet)
- Episode Title Card
- Everythings Better With Spinning (Sonia)
- Expository Theme Tune
- GASP!
- Group Hug
- Hey Its That Voice (Hey, that's Urkel as Sonic! And, oh, I know who's playing Robotnik! It's Optimus Prime! Or Grounder, maybe. Actually, Jaleel White, who plays all three siblings, has said that he uses his Urkel voice for Sonia.)
- Ho Yay (At the end of the second episode, Sonia kisses Sonic on the cheek for a job well done, and Sonic turns to Manic and says, "You're not gonna kiss me, are you?" Manic's answer? "No way, but you are kinda cute." One of the funniest lines on the show.)
- Hover Board
- In Name Only (The only connections to the video games are Sonic, Dr. Robotnik, and Knuckles. Nothing more!)
- Well the episodes with Knuckles had Chaos Emeralds too...
- Instrument Of Murder
- Memetic Mutation (Knuckles screaming "I HATE THIEVES!!")
- Musical Assassin (All three of the hedgehogs)
- Mythology Gag In the first episode, we can see Uncle Chuck and Sonic in Uncle Chuck's base from Sat AM. When Robotnik is taking over, we can see a statue of King Acorn (Also from Sat AM) crumble.
- Nice Job Breaking It Hero (A lot of trouble could have avoided if the Oracle hadn't told Robotnik about their plan to overthrow him)
- No Ending (Nothing is really resolved by the last episode, which is just like any other.)
- Well, it was CANCELED. In some cases during MID-AIRING.
- Photographic Memory (Sonia)
- The Power Of Friendship (going hand in hand with…)
- The Power Of Rock
- Protest Song (An episode features the triplets singing one against Robotnik)
- Re Power (Famously super-fast Sonic gets...The Power Of Rock)
- The Scrappy (Sleet and Dingo)
- Silence You Fool
- So Bad Its Good (A minority of the fanbase thinks of it as this, including this troper)
- Surfer Dude (Manic)
- Talking To Himself (Yes, Jaleel White voices all three main characters)
- Theme Tune Cameo (Lots of times.)
- Those Two Bad Guys (Sleet and Dingo)
- Totally Radical
- Trademark Favorite Food (Again, chili dogs)
- Your Mileage May Vary: Some people hate it for the sheer detachment of the series from the source material or other well-made adaptations (or on what they feel are its own terrible merits), some find it So Bad Its Good, and others just like it.
- Youtube Poop (Early on, this was a favored source material, mostly sparked by a wave of poops employing the aforementioned Memetic Mutation.)
- Non Singing Voice (all three hedgehogs had three separate Voice Actors for the singing segments - Sam Vincent for Sonic, Tom Araya for Manic and Stevie Vallance for Sonia.)
